  • I want this video on my T918 phone.

  • this is too friggin funny!!

  • This video went viral on Grenada

  • I love this. I've watched it 5 times just now lol.

  • 1:57 EPIC!

  • it's still fresh!

  • Awesome!

  • martin short shouldve been a singer and quit the comedy shit

  • its parody, or not?

  • @Slezi2007 - Welcome to Canadian humour. This is how we roll. Fuck with your mind.

  • It's actually not bad, though. Lulz

  • LMAO!!!

  • The best DOPE ever!!

  • Singing in bands most of my life, this is the funniest thing I have seen!!

    Love the SCTV gang!!

  • Ah think it is mair a comment on the pretentiousness of punk groups!. They all sold out in the end. May I remind you Yanks that British soldiers are fighting and dying alongside your own soldiers in Afghanistan. Before you make remarks about the Flaklands, go learn yer own history!!++My Granny was Lady In Waiting to the Queen for many years. She got fed up waiting eventually, and found a job tickling fish (not as funny as it sounds). Bob shall hear of this!!

  • @Shuggydylan SCTV is a Canadian comedy show. Blame your Canuck cousins in the Commonwealth for that Falkland Islands joke. Hahaha!

  • @2Beers4Rico Cheers, 2 Beers Rico. I'll buy ye a beer, and then you will be 3BeersRico LOL. Is Canada still "open" BTW. I thought it was closed now! (Oh, my Canadian YT and fb friends will ot be happy LOL). Anyhoo, must go and see tae ma grannie noo. She is 109, and takes her teeth oot tae sing. Does not make a blind bit of difference, but try tellig HER that. We all got to be nice to her. She's filthy rich ( filthy in general, ma man!!!),Talk aboot "Tenna Lady!" OK, Granny, ah'm comin'..?

  • fucking great

  • The Young Lions from Toronto did the music for this.

  • 4 people love the bloody Queen and can afford their dope.

  • love the song...just downloaded it to my mp3! (but i love the bloody queen)

  • I can't afford me dope!!

  • best thing on youtube

  • Awesome Upload, Dude! Thanks! Ever since I've downloaded this video (using an app that I love: Applian Technology's Replay Media Catcher), I have watched it over and over also. I don't watch it when I'm drunk. Instead, I watch it while I'm high! That is when, as the lead singer says, I can afford me bloody dope! With all of the great music that SCTV turned-out, I can't believe they never produced and sold a music video collection! This song is better than "God Save The Queen" by the Sex Pistols!

  • @rtmorphine don't get carried away

  • John Candy is looking very much like Big John from The Exploited in this..lol

Still looking for Bob and Doug's 12 days of christmas.

  • Hilarious!! SCTV ruled!!!

  • @AmericanPowerBase

No problem. Glad I could help, friend.

  • Good immitation of Stiv Bators!

I remember this skit when I was little! ja ja!

  • Hey this is kinda ripped off. I played guitar Toronto in a punk band called Sick Friends and we played a song way too similar. "I hate the bloody Queen, her family are inbred fools. I hate the bloody Queen, I'd like to kick her in the jewels" and the riff is similar, not as fast, punchy and raw non electronic sounding.. but similar.

  • @videoizer I remember that song!!!!! I am being serious here!! lol

  • @videoizer That's pretty cool, actually! I assume your band was around circa 1982-83? If that's the case, there's a good chance someone connected to SCTV saw you guys and got the idea. Hey, the highest form of praise is imitation! Cheers.

  • I CAN'T AFFORD ME DOPE!!

  • @CinemaBiohazard I STILL CAN'T AFFORD ME DOPE!!!

  • embedding disabled by request

  • i have an Eat The Rich tee shirt! and i remember this skit...made me laugh like crazy...and poor princess diana.. - its a shame that the sctv cast never remained this edgy in the rest of their careers. RIP John Candy!

  • The ultimate punk rock band, THE QUEEN HATERS!!!

  • Four people love the queen!

  • I almost pissed myself laughing

  • Totally classic!

  • too funny

  • Good message, even it was meant to be comical?...the degenerate queen is still alive. I wonder of it is really her? Life extension technology or clone? Who knows if that is the real murdering degenrate that you barely see around these days.

  • they ought to place this song at prince william's wedding next month.

  • The funny thing is that the music could be passed off as a legit late '70s-early '80s punk single and people who hadn't seen it on SCTV might not realise it was a joke.

  • so these guys hate bloody queen? i wonder why - what did Freddie Mercury ever do to them?!?

    ;-)

  • Martin Short's dancing and to of breathe singing is awesome. classic. will never forget this skit.

  • Man, I could watch this over and over and over again (and sometimes do, especially when I'm drunk).

Martin Short and John Candy's performances are both too fucking funny...

  • @muthahoho

Hey Man. I appreciate your comment. I watch it over and over when I'm drunk too. Cheers to you!

  • @DonCook47

Haha! I knew I couldn't be the only one.

    Cheers back at ya, friend!

  • @muthahoho

This is genius, better than punk!

Can you imagine a whole concert?

They've taken the best aspects of punk...extreme behaviour and humour to a new level.

Makes me wanna have a scotch straight up.

  • Thanks for posting. Martin Short is brilliant!!! This sketch its the funniest god damn thing!!!! I remember all the kids getting into a fight at the end.

  • the Queen Haters were a joke punk band, yet the ultimate joke is that they are 1,000 times better than what passes as "serious" punk these days.

  • @tsartodd and more politically relevant, lol!

  • @tsartodd Fuckin A

  • My new ringtone

  • Am I the only one who thinks Eugene Levy (as the guitarist, not as Mel!) looks just like Daniel Ash here?

  • "I can't afford me dope!!!!"

  • One day, people will appreciate the genius that was SCTV.

  • John Candy......greatest punk drummer of all time???

  • John Candy doesn't say a word, but he steals the show.

  • hahaha....your falkland war machine!! mercy god that's funny...candy on the drums, man just awesome.

  • SCTV...................... Canadian comical masters...these guys were so ahead of there time......actually this song is fuckin cool......

  • Yeah, SCTV has a good laugh at the "Falklands Islands" war, in this video and on the 23rd Anniversary of the Sammy Maudlin show.

  • people always reference SNL and Monty Python - other than the fact SNL was live and milked the same joke over and over, SCTV via their 'television station vehicle' found a way to tie all the skits in together - while Python had to employ Gilliam and his animation to make the transitions (not to detract at all from the brilliance of Python and Gilliam either - he is one of my fave all time directors)...

so essentially SCTV was something all it's own. The three aren't even really comparable.

  • @GlobalPunditOrg -exactly tr. nothong comes close to SCTV for comic genius

  • OMG spot on...SO spot on...SCTV=prescient geniuses and brilliant satirists, and masters of parody...

Martin Short's character looks like Steve Coogan's effeminate punk rock "bum boy" from Saxondale...lol.

and John Candy's drummer look was just too accurate - i'd like to know if there was a specific band they were parodying, as I know they all had broad taste in music generally and were all pretty with it, so to speak.

  • @GlobalPunditOrg sex pistols obviously

  • John Candy's glasses are adorable.

  • "IIIII CAN'T AAAAAFORD ME DOPE!"

  • thanks to who-ever put this on u-tube!

  • John Candy can still make me laugh my ass off just by sitting there.

  • SHE MAKES LAAUGH!

  • "I can't afford me dope!!!!!!!!" lol

  • More relevant than anything new out there. Martin Short's got some serious vocal skills.

  • @Bagelbutcher --Martin short has amazing all around talent. This piece was hilarious

  • I watched alot of SCTV, but never saw this piece. It is great! Thanks very much for posting this video!

  • I love that Mel likes it.

  • @SamSpade2010 -it was prob the cheapest band they could get! ha!

  • Martin Short is a good Stiv Bators!

  • And this was why SCTV was awesome! A handful of brilliant Canadians created an entire world that was just this side of believable. We will not see its like again.

  • i love the way john candy looks in this!! he looks so bored, cynical, and unamused.

  • @bluestate69 He looks like my friend, Eric, lol.

  • Joe Flaherty... as in Freaks and Geeks Joe Flaherty?

  • I love this because it shows how well the show worked. Candy just kills by doing nothing at all, Short's screaming his head off and doing a good job of it, and everybody else is just meshed into there and it just works. It's just utterly beautiful. God, I miss SCTV.

  • nEvERminD THe SeX piSToLs...HeRE's The QUeenHaTErS!

  • John Candy on the drums... i remember seeing that when i was a kid and just fucking died laughing, he rules.

  • For all of its comedic value, this is actually a really good song!

  • I never get tired of watching this. Martin's snarl is great. And yeah, it sure beats a lot of the junk that passes for music these days.

  • Hey, old Radiohead!

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you. I just love it how Martin Short winds up after the guitar solo. Most excellent.

  • The Plasmatics were also on the SCTV show!

  • Is Martin Short the singer???

  • @mondocaneman : Well it wasn't so much singing as it was screaming

  • Awesome! John Candy on drums! I remember this when I was a teen! LOLOL

  • I'd rather listen to this a million times before lady gag gag or justin pieper.

  • BEST ROCK VIDEO OF ALL TIME!

check out Candy, this is the best!

  • Andrea Martin is hideous funny in this.

  • ...Wasn't that great?!?...

  • On this episode, I think Mel gave a prize for the best dancers, which turned out to be an autographed photo (John Candy) from "Pre-Teen World Magazine.".

  • Man, can Eugene jam!!!! This is some of the best tv, EVER!

  • Four people are emo Blink 182 fans.

  • I agree with Don. This was the most HILARIOUS spoof on punk ever, and timely, as it mentioned the Falkland Islands war ( a nothing war made to order to have Britain look tough, just like our Grenada war, at the time.

  • these guys were just the GREATEST comedy act ever. laugh therapy at its best.

  • More real and a better tune than so much out there! It's raw, beautifully offensive (to the Queen), and just some honest rockin' riffs. I cannot get enough of this for some reason. :>)

All amazing comics/actors and this is proof. Oh yeah, and Martin's screaming voice is great!

Inspiration for any person with performance in their DNA.

    Thank you for posting!

  • @PeteHaase

Thanks for your interesting comment. I agree with you about the rawness and offensiveness. I can not get enough of it either. The timeliness of it is critical. England had declared war on Argentina. If someone pulled tghis off today they would be interrogated for possible terrorist agitation. I feel that SCTV took things to the very edge with this spoof.

  • @PeteHaase martin who?

  • Comment removed

  • @PeteHaase It's not offensive to the Queen, it's offensive to people who take songs like this seriously

  • I HATE THE BLOODY QUEEN!!!!!!!! Thanks for uploading this, I used to stay up late Friday nights to watch SCTV Network!!

  • John candy on the drums hahah (per usual)

  • This is actually better than anyting on the radio today, Lady CA CA, Nickleback, Katy Perry all crap, this is kinda cool, even for a parody.

  • This is beyond funny, one of the best SCTV sketches! Martin Short is perfect in this,I love the shot of Mel being the only one getting into it 'Weren't they great?'. Too funny!

  • i love this song this by far better than any of the stupid shit that is on mtv too bad they didn't make anymore songs for us to enjoy

  • john candy is the best!

  • Yeah! Way realer punk than Green bloody Day!

  • Wow, I have 17 tapes of SCTV episodes I recorded back in the day, and yet I've never seen this sketch. Classic!

  • Is that really John Candy on the drums? This is superb, totally in agreement that this even for a parody has more depth and passion than junk like Green Day or MCR!

  • @guyfromnewcastle glad we sent this to ya..found a new comedy group this weekend come by my house (channel) and check it out. it's just starting up but I see promise in it with the right input..

  • John Candy is providing a great beat.

  • I had to listen to that at least 10 times...that was way cool...and strangely, more than just in a funny way...

  • I can't afford me dope! SCTV was pure genius - they had so many incredibly gifted people esp. Martin Short, Andrea Martin & Catherine O'Hara.

  • @HuntersMoon73 ---you could literally fall on the floor laughing at some of their acts. So creative, original and downright hilarious.

  • @HuntersMoon73 - Actually, I can't think of a single member who wasn't excellent. Martin Short used to be the big draw for me in the day, but they're all just too good.

  • I love SCTV

  • Inspired!

  • Better than any so-called "punk" bands around in 2010.

    Thank God "Emo" is dead.

  • sctv blew saturday night live out of the water!

  • Better than anything on the radio theses days.

  • Short's a friggin' Genius!!!

  • Is that Eugene Mirman on the left at 0:45?

  • Must've been so damn fun for the cast to do that skit!

  • You gotta to laugh at the mockery of The Sex Pistols !!!!!!! ~ LOL

  • @ukraininoak It's not the Sex Pistols, it's Stiv Bators and The Dead Boys.

  • @theboomer61

    I KNOW !!!!!!!

  • :) Yes Mel, that was great. Again with John Candy on drums....

  • Does anyone out there know where Ron Levy got the concept for Rockin Mel Slurp!

  • God save the Queen?

Yeah right, God bless Martin Short and The Queenhaters.

The Queen can drown in piss for what anyone cares (especially off the coast of argentine).

The Sex Pistols should have taken notes.

  • SCTV. The Beatles of comedy. And no Obla Di Obla Da!

  • Great skit!

  • My brother and I had been looking for this for years. Thanks. We also loved how Rockin' Mel fainted every time he was with Roy Orbison.

  • i remember this episode when it first aired.freakin hilarious

  • The glasses on JC always grabbed my attention; combined with the dead expression - this is satire at its BEST!

  • Best COMEDY SHOW EVR! Look at John on the drums! LOLOLOL

  • The drummer had a lot of energy.

  • Those glasses John Candy are wearing crack me up everytime.

How he could keep a straight face in that get up is beyond me.

  • i had know idea the young lions provided the music for the song! thanks

  • Classic parodizing comedy, another example of how SCTV was pure genius really.

  • Comment removed

  • This is probably Martins Shorts best performance

  • I love how Eugene Levy is totally diggin' it. \m/

  • Man, Martin Short has never done better comedy

  • OMG, Classic! I love John's drumming, and who knew Eugene was a rock star. Did you notice Lawrence Orbach in the audience?

  • @rachel112263 Yes, not surprised to see Lawrence at a teenage dance show....he's still having some degree of difficulty getting his high school diploma :>)

  • @TheDaddyCokes Righto Alex Then.

  • Short and Flaherty are a bit out of it, but Levy and Candy are cool here. Andrea Martin is just being herself.

  • This video is 100% brilliant. Damn I miss those guys.

  • I love Eugene Levy rocking out, quite Pistol like

  • I can't get enough of watching Martin Short going crazy at the beginning of the song ha ha . This is gold !

  • I wonder, did they know this was the last episode for NBC? Could explain the anger but this has to be my favorite bit ever! Martin Short is amazing and John Candy!!!!! I feel sorry for you Lady Di having a mother-in-law like that.

  • I agree with the comment about SCTV being so much funnier than SNL. SNL was funny for one year (the first year), then it degenerated into an elitist leftist punkass political whoremongering humorless circle jerk of self indulgent overly repetitive vomit fest. SCTV on the other hand stayed true to basic innovative comedy that everyone could enjoy without being insulted. Martin Short, John Candy, et al rule!

  • This looks like a take off of "God save the queen" by the clash. :D I like this one even better.

  • Not sure why I said that. Sex pistols it was. And surely no need for the aggression, sir. But then perhaps you can't help it? Your parents must have been incapable of raising decent children. Mommy and Daddy did a bad job bringing up baby, it seems. Ah, well, don't fret, kid, it happens. Social skills can be learned after all.

  • Even throughout my questionable upbringing, I knew that the Clash didn't write "God Save the Queen".

  • In High school in the mid 90s I was in the strings doing a concert. So we had to wait in the music room waiting to be on. I got so bored I wrote out the lyrics on the Blackboard of this song. My Teacher looked at me funny ROFL Good times!

  • "I'D like to DROOOWN the Queeen!!" LMFAO

  • Martin Short and John Candy absolutely stole the show with The Queen Haters! Short's craziness and his punk voice and Candy's non-expressions give the segment two very humourous directions. Also, Andrea Martin does a pretty good version of Joan Jett with her choruses and facial expressions. SCTV makes SNL look pale in compairison when it comes to great humor!

  • Classic!!!

Music by The Young Lions, from Toronto.

  • You dont get much funnier than this.

  • @togue777 Exactly.

  • I know John Candy has sadly passed away, it would a be a great tour in theory of THE QUEEN HATERS & SPINAL TAP, with THE QUEEN HATERS just thrashing all their stuff.

  • Dis is funny..remember this when I was a teenager!! ha ah.

  • I remember watching this with my g/f and laughing our asses off when it was first on, we made our own song entitled "skeleton hand caressing your face" afterward, man it was like yesterday! lol! good times and thanks for posting it, I was 16 again for just a moment.

  • John Candy.... too effin' funny!!

  • And, obviously, I'm having trouble spelling from too many scotch and sodas...so please don't comment on that LOL!!!!!

  • This is one of the funniest things I have EVER seen!!! Been a fan since of SCTV sice '82 and this is the first time I've seen this one! FUNNIEST SWHOW EVER!!! Brilliant beyond words!!!
