The academic is right in one way. There are many dimensions to this existance and without a sense of mystery, life would be meaningless and sterile. However, once you actually witness a miraculous event you can't explain, you are forever opened/changed. I've not heard a banshee but, I have encountered the "fairy/spirit/angelic world" and it opens your eyes to an expanded quality of life. Eventually, whether anyone believes or accepts your experience becomes of no concern whatsoever.
bless the good folk of the glen,, they are the true believers of the banshee. and long may it reign.... country folk have their own understanding and that MUST be appreciated and accepted, I am a descendant and I will stand by my family s stories as much as I can asprire to be true,,,,,which in fact is 99.9%. xx
What a wonderful piece of history and Irish myth. In many ways this short film is the true meaning of our Irish bardic traditions, story telling, belief in our ansestors, ghosts, and of course the great fairy women. The concept behind this film is truly oustanding how much of our history remembered by the real Irish people has been lost. As an O'Neill I have to believe one day she will wait and call, call her people and family members home.
Very interesting, i'm young but i sure hope tales like these survive to get passed on well. It makes this world more rich and magical to know there's something beyond this world, or inbetween, still effecting this world.
I believe the banshee is a ghost of an ancient Irish druid who warns of possible deaths within the fate forcasts. Just my intuition :)
my uncle in leitrim said he heard her one night. in his words it sounded like"a bunch of cats havin a shag"

It means someone is going to die. The banshee is there to accompany them to the next world.
