Gotta love the quintessential computer graphics intro. Totally mid-90s. There aren't many videos of WREG in the late-90s, are there? I remember those best, I grew up watching WREG during that time before going off to primary school.
I remember when they used this opening sequence. It was during the 1994-1995 year (a year I would call "A Season of Affiliates Change"). That's when two Television Stations switched affiliates WREG-TV retained its CBS Affiliation and WMC-TV retained its NBC affiliation. However, WHBQ-TV went from a ABC affiliate to FOX and WPTY-TV went from FOX to ABC.
Wow, I remember when they used this package on WUSA, up until around 94 or 95. I'm surprised WUSA didn't update this theme to keep the stinger as its signature, switching instead to sound-alike in Gari's WFSB package, then switching again to (and commissioning updates for) Enforcer. Sadly, USA News probably is too dated to make a comeback anywhere. (I think the beat isn't fast enough now.)
I don't remember WUSA using the specific open shown here for WREG. They used the regular morning open.
I totally miss the NewsChannel 3 weather backyard... I remember touring the 3 studios, seeing it, and the folks there telling me it was being "reworked"... only to never return again.
This is my favorite YouTube video I've seen so far. Brings back so many memories - waking up and watching Joe and Mary Beth as I got ready for school. This group is the reason I'm in the biz now - doing mornings.
Wow, I produced this show. I knew it when it started. By the way, if you noticed, the 615 "USA Music" package was modified for WREG. Did you noticed the blues riff and banjo in there? I bet they were there when this was the music package for WUSA/Washington, D.C.

Todd skinny ass!
You all need to see him now how he look.
He needs to lay off the donuts and Twinkies.
Someone buy him a salad.
