there is not best fins for freediving...maybe for you and for your needs those are the best ones but somebody else may need something totally different.it depends on many things....and by the time i used carbon fins i would never ever go back to plastic fins! believe me spending 300€ on some good carbon blades and pockets is totally worth it
dude the fins they used in rhe movie "into the blue" its the cressi alright ,,,,but not the 2000 they used the 3000 i should know i got a pair .. if you look closely in the movie the fins have a notch at the end of the blade ....thats the cressi 3000 yours dont have one,,,,,,
i have used these, and i don't like them. although if they work for you more power to you. look into upgrading though because over time as your kicks get stronger you will get side wobble with those.
this is cressi gara 2000. the worse fins I have ever used.they hurt and give no speed. cressi also withdrawn them from the market. omer millenium is much better.
@sargoz72 Since you say "they hurt" it means they're not suited for you. Next time choose your fins better & don't over estimate yourself. By the way, Cressi DID NOT withdrawn them from the market (check 2012 catalog) since tougher guys still exist & use them.
Dude, split fins are crap for freediving. Freedivers value fins with good propulsion. Split fins are mostly for lazy SCUBA divers with too much weight who want a fin that is easy to kick and don't care about propulsion. You find a freediver who is caught dead wearing split fins and I'll find you 10,000 who don't...
@Stratocaster05 There is an explonation for that: it is new product! Those 10,000 people are old school divers. It's normal for human to scare everything new!
Anyway, you can go faster and you spend less oxygen, its 2 to 0 in my book.
It's a simple case of surface area vs. thrust. The greater the surface area, the more water is displaced by each identical stroke. Split fins with less surface area will travel through the water with greater ease but generate less thrust. There is a reason why competitive freedivers and finswimmers use monofins; they have a surface area far greater than traditional bifins due to the lack of a central gap in the motile mass. Split fins have three gaps in the motile mass.
@Stratocaster05 I don't understand why they are "crap". I know no one uses them...but no one was using aero bars until LeMond did....it "just wasn't done".
The total surface is NOT the important factor-as any engineer will tell you: it's NOT the vertical force...it is the horizontal vector that is supplying the thrust and forward momentum.
I don't do a lot of free diving. I use Mare Quattros for scuba because they are medium stiff but long enough. But split fins are MORE efficient no doubt.
started freediving with these, they where very good to me while I had them, but now that I have switched to C4's I will never go back. Yeap, I spent 3 times more money on those than I did with my cressis but there were definitely worth it. I say that because the carbon fiber is going to last me a whole lot longer than the plastic blades did, my legs dont get as tired, and there is a huge difference in propulsion when you are 80-90ft deep..
@james8660 I have tried omer too and a couple others. These ones are a good stiffness for me. And I am all about comfort when I am diving. If my feet hurt my breath holds are horrible. What don't you like about the blades. I have not had any problem with them
Once you go composite, you will never go back :) Im over plastic blades. they are very surdy for rockhopping but performance wise wont hold up a candle to Fiberglass or Carbon fiber.
I am lucky to now have a pair of DiveR Carbon fiber blades, still need to buy some pockets (looking at either Buchat pockets, or Mares Razor) and give them a run, they are going to ahnialate my current fins!!!

I tried Spierre Carbon fins... They will blow you away!
Wayyyy beyond regular long fins, including Cressi Garas....
If I had over $500 for fins, they are worth every penny.
They are soooo fast. Amazing!!!
