  • Like father, like son.

  • Why can't we have this quality today?

Damn, the movies are so more "easy" (in a way) to do today, we could very well have masterpieces today, then why we don't have?

  • holly shit that was an intense opening! i feel so ignorant not having watched this movie till now

  • like father like son

  • you are wrong good sir, this scene is not the greatest opening sequence in the history film this MOVIE(mostly the redux version) is the greatest film in history, therefore the opening scene is y consequence greater than the greatest opening scene.

  • Still powerful after all those years. This is true cinema.

  • YEAH ALL TRUE. M sheen was in a "bad place" a kinda middle age crisis, depressed, drunk, yeah mirror was real glass and he kinda had a break down on set, real cut & blood, tears but they just kept rolling, he later had a heart attack which delayed the shoot & didnt help that the army kept grabbing their huey,s back just as they were about to shoot a scene no wonder the budget went into outa space, Studio nearly pulled this film as soo many problems with it.Still glad they didnt classic movie

  • it was an accident that he hit the mirror they just kept the cameras rolling!

  • Pretty much sums up my summer

  • When he dances, or do the dance ... what name is "Dance"?

  • the best off the best

  • A+

  • Heart of Darkness <3

  • TIGER BLOOD RUNS IN THE FAMILY

  • "The scene at the beginning with Captain Willard alone in his hotel room was completely unscripted. Martin Sheen told the shooting crew to just let the cameras roll. Sheen was actually drunk in the scene and punched the mirror which was real glass. Sheen also began sobbing and tried to attack Francis Ford Coppola. The crew was so disturbed by his actions that they wanted to stop shooting, but Coppola wanted to keep the cameras going." IMDB. I'm not sure if it's true.

  • @JaKaRe36 It is actually true; there was a documentary on TV a while back about the film.

  • @JaKaRe36 Yep, you'll want to track down the documentary 'Hearts of Darkness', shot by Coppola's wife at the time. Sheen was pretty messed up.

  • To those who don't know, or who are just stupid, this is MARTIN Sheen, Charlie Sheen's father.

  • this opening put the hook in me

  • You need to sort out the picture. It's squeezed to hell.

  • That's why i always had this feeling Charlie Sheen never aged... X__X

  • @calmetosis Charlie Sheen's stuffed his face with botox and plastic surgery.

  • @tubeyoume It's back, my friend :')

  • Charlie Sheen trying to imitate Chuck Norris?

  • 6:00 onwards is uncannily like watching Charlie Sheen today.

  • Cracked.com sent me here. Apparently someone--a guy called Sheen or whatever--almost died while making the movie!

  • Man, hes drinking tiger blood

  • this is winning

  • Are we sure that Charlie wasn't reinacting his father fighting Charly?

Sheen is one of the few mega stars who comes out to help us save our butts. I commend him for that waever yada yada Sheen makes .

Frankly I am disappointed in all the others super stars like Bruce Willis, Matt Damon, DiCaprio and who have you, who didn't come out.

  • "Saigon... shit!"

Me too have to make an oral about it tommorow...

  • @Arkash9 bahaha! how did it go?

  • @samm1809 : Quite well actually..... Got an 13/20 finally!!!

  • @xXxl0tti3xXx i definitely would focus on sound and performance, mise en scene is too obvious and won't get you high marks.

  • which of the two micro elements should I concentrate on from this scene? I can't decide cos they're all pretty good! :)

cinematography, mise en scene, editing, sound ?

  • @xXxl0tti3xXx Concentrate on sound - a lot to talk about.

  • one of the best scenes in film history.

  • a wierd movie....but coool and awesome!!!!!!!!

  • @Aldoo97 Ah yeah I dont think so!

  • Comment removed

  • @Aldoo97 ummmm well you didn't....

  • @Aldoo97 Just to clear the record, Martin was never really into drugs. This scene was filmed on his birthday and he had started drinking early in the morning like any man would. He was dealing with a lot of personal issues, and by the evening when the scene was scheduled to be filmed he was pretty far gone. Francis wanted to cancel filming but Martin insisted they continue. Everything in the scene is real.

  • @chrispellis

Yeh just watched the video Heart of Darkness, yeh that's correct.

  • Did you guys know when he punches the mirrior it wasn't part of the movie, he was bad on drink and drugs at the time and he went a bit mental at the scene where he is in his underwear and when he punches the mirror the blood is actually real, they just kept the camera's rolling.

  • MARTIN SHEEN HE'S ONE OF THE BEST ACTORS IN HOLLYWOOD

  • @Angelo9206

The best part is, that whole ending to that scene was not acting. It's actually real footage and he didn't even know he was being taped. He was so fucked up on drugs and booze

  • @lostboy4444

already knew, I saw the documentary film, when interviewed he said he was so drunk that when you put in front of the mirror, measured the distance and hit the glass cut his hand, wanted to stop but did not want to and followed, is great, and I repeat, MARTIN SHEEN IS ONE OF THE BEST ACTORS OF HOLLYWOOD is a big shit that he still has not won an Oscar

  • fuck the ads! fuck the ads! fuck the ads!

  • silenceing?

mother fuckers...they're fucking up one of the greatest (in the top ten) movies of all time!

  • WMG silencing The Doors? Fuck them!

  • sawthe movie yesterday, its like a realistic horror movie! soo great! left a mark in my head

  • The horror...

  • This has to be the greatest intro to one of the greatest if not THE greatest film ever, and what a choice of song. The End by The Doors nobody else could write a song so Apocalyptic

  • I agree with you !

  • Say what you will about Coppola, but pure film making like this is a rarity in today's film industry, with the exception of Christopher Nolan, Paul Thomas Anderson, and David Fincher, I couldn't see any modern directors making anything close to this.

  • seriously .. best opening sequence in any movie .. ever

  • The Doors.

  • Nothing more needs to be said.

  • @Smolley28 wow! i was actually listening to the doors when i read an article about this, and now i hear the doors again :D

  • movie was filmed in Pagsanjan, Laguna PHILIPPINES. I visited there while stationed in the USAF in the early 80's

  • Yeah, it's Sheen's blood and everything when he smashes the mirror, it was all spontaneous.

  • great actor, great film....

  • MELLLLOOOOOOOOW PUFFFS!

  • The End goes great with this film!

  • Agreed - Best opening sequence ever. The wide screen version even better.

  • Fully agreed. Not one movie opening comes close to the power in this one scene.

  • Wow, thanks for that info! I think its kind of funny that Sheen was drunk and swearing at Coppola. I agree. What a fantastic opening.

  • Chilling. Perfect.

  • Oh yeah for sure one the best opening sequence in cinema history. The sequence is centered on one person but with this opening you feel that the whole history is going to be fucking epic.

  • I agree, this is one of the greatest openings of all time. The music and sound really makes the scene.
