Badiou didn't quite respond to Slavoj's suggestion that jouissance remains the 'kernel of the real' or excess which is appropriated within liberal politics and capitalist economies. I would contend that jouissance as it has been notionally understood has, in fact, been appropriated by the political discourse. But the question is thus not to keep the name es the impenetrable noumenal which remains indisplaceable (a decidedly ontotheological move) but to be ready to displace enjoyment as the Real.
