Could yall imagine if NASCAR went back to letting the tracks covering the races that would be God Awful a race on a different Channel each week it was terrible lol i rember those 10 10 numbers

Man this is weird. I live 45 minutes away from Homestead. I recognize the outside but the track is so flat. Im so glad they change the banking I love racing at this track
brian williams met dale sr. during his time with nascar on nbc. if you were wondering how he knew dale. during some of the tribute vids brian williams talks at length about his friendship with dale sr. very cool stuff
As long as I watched NASCAR, this was the first Winston Cup race I ever went to. NASCAR should've brought the Winston Cup Series to Homestead long before 1999.
O man, this was not a good broadcast team, especially in the booth. I remember this was either right before or right after they announced the FOX/NBC tv package, and it scared me to think that this would be the team. Thank God it changed.
@racermac1988 Well, it would not be until 2001 that NBC would regularly cover NASCAR. The deal before 2001 had tracks deal with networks separately, like NCAA Bowl Games do now.
Not really, Brian actually follows the sport pretty closely, unlike Suzy Kolber who basically had no real knowledge of the sport for ESPN last year. Brent Musburger I thought was ok, especially since he seems to like covering. Chris Fowler even wasn't bad. Eric Kusileus, not so much.
@vckr25 I disagree. Brian Williams is a lifelong NASCAR fan, a life long Dale Earnhardt fan. Before NBC took over NASCAR in the new contract, Brian Williams had an in-studio interview with Dale Earnhardt on his MSNBC television program.
WOW Potiancs Swept the top 5 How many times has that happen in NASCAR anyone?

Was this NBC's first time broadcasting NASCAR???
Crisgo3d 3 years ago
I think so
TimmyTickle 3 years ago
I thought so, but apparently the 1983 Winston 500 was covered by NBC's old "SportsWorld" program similar to ABC's "Wide World of Sports."
However, this was the first modern day broadcast. This was right around the time it was announced NASCAR was coming to NBC regularly.

@racermac1988 up til 2005 when they saids that it would drop to three of the worst networks in the world
Fox, TNT and ABC/ESPN

the 1964 wORLD 600 was NBC's first ever broadcast, but said event was tape-delayed

bringing brian williams to do a nascar race was one of the worst ideas ever

yeah kolber, kusileus were awful. Brian Williams just doesent have the sports announcer personality. he is kinda dull and dosent get excited.
vckr25 3 years ago
That's probably the, "serious news announcer" voice kicking in.
Not bad though for his first time at it.
racermac1988 3 years ago
@racermac1988 He's a news anchor, he just has to get used to it

Did Brent Musburger ever do NASCAR? I know he did the Indy 500

Several races in 2007 for ESPN/ABC as host of NASCAR Countdown...Musberger is a college football announcer at heart, though.
