  • I miss the original version's epic intro...

  • omg this song got me hooked on this band

  • This band is one of those rare isntances where they captured lightning with their first album so well that people to this day STILL pine for it. I fucking love this band... :)

  • This song is heartbreaking story of Saddam Hussein and his exile.

  • bleah...

  • i can hear like four different tonys voices at the same time :P

  • @Passpartuz I know, I hate the Armies of Tony. I wish they'd go back to what they did back in 1999 through 2003-ish. You know what I mean?

  • @YoshiFan100 since jani left the band its not the same on live, they were connected in that special way.. nailed awesome improvisations.. even so, live sounds so much better, is there where tonys personality just blows your mind..

  • @Passpartuz Henrik + Jani = Funny mix

They just all felt so connected--Jani and Henrik especially. You just don't see it now that Jani's gone.

  • @YoshiFan100 you actually know about what you're talking about dude.. :D

  • @YoshiFan100 indeed, no doubt all the fans of sonata misses ecliptica style.. my case: tricky beans style.. just kidding :P

  • @Passpartuz I wouldn't even say they miss the Ecliptica style--I think they miss how Jani played. Even in Unia you could feel Jani; you could feel him. He gave Sonata their base sound--the drums, kayboard, and base added to it.

In The Days of Grays, there was no guitar at all. I have no doubt in my mind Jani would have made it 1,000,000 times better.

  • @YoshiFan100 two of us..

  • i think this version is better. i think the verse's in the original sounded slightly harsher than in this. but it sucks that they dropped the keyboard intro. this is better, although the original is still bloody brilliant.

  • not bad , but they lost the epic keyboard intro =/

  • i think thant the first version is better...

  • The keyboard is clearer :) Yay for Henkka! I like the way they changed the chorus "Oh" in the beginning

  • AWSOME!!!!

  • I miss the high note at the end of the bridge, but I love what they've done. It's interesting to see how they've changed over the years, and yet they are still Sonata. Love the original, but I love this one too.

  • realy its not so diferent to the original, and i like both, cause the both are great :)

  • that version is kind of strange OO

i like the original 1thousand times more!

  • If a song isn't broken then why tamper with it?? These remakes were just a lame way to get fans to purchase compilation albums that weren't worth buying. This was when S.A. began to lose their magic.

  • Musically, this one is superior, but I find myself liking the original more because of my nostalgia goggles.

  • I prefer the original version ;)

  • Thank you very much, i like this version :-)

  • I prefer the slower tempo and heavier sound. Kicks ass.

  • So that's why they changed some of the lyrics on "For the Sake of Revenge", they made a remake! Always wondered why they did that.

  • They replaced parts of the guitar with voices, this is terribly wrong.

  • I like this new one, but the old version has a better ending. Just my opinion though.

  • I like this one a lot

  • i like the harmonic at 0:39

  • I prefer the original, but both versions are great, which proves that this is simply a great song.

  • I think I like this version better than the original.

  • best remake ever!

  • I missed that nice guitar melody at the beginning for the original! The instrumentation really seemed lost in some spots and I didn't like how they made the solos seem more faded in the background.

Very good otherwise, I liked how they made some of the vocals more bold and defined with more backing vocals in this one. But still Tony kinda changed his tones from the original too much for my liking.

That ending though was awesome! It sounds a lot to me like something Journey would play!

  • First version a great, but this new version to

  • hhhm, there both good. But I think that those remakes are made for the life concerts. To make it more like a "show" (the same they did with "replica"), I think this sounds nicer life.

  • i dont understand why did they omitted the keyboard intro,,

it would sounded really good whit the synth sound that henkka use playing in live

  • @Zalfros Because the intro is very much alike Stratovarius' song "4000 rainy nights"...That's why.

  • lml

  • instead of the "YOOW" at 4:44 he should have screamed "BLACK SHEEP!!!" xDD

  • xD Like The Concert

"For The Sake Of Revenge" (Y)

    lml

  • the beginning is quite cool^^ but my fave is the songs of silence-version

  • My favorite part In my opinion is 4:20-4:51 so calm and amazing.

  • I like the bass morei n this version

  • I actually like this version!

Can't say that it's better than the original, but looking at the remakes from Wolf & Raven and Letter to Dana, i'd say this one worked out well! ( can't say that the other two did ... )

    SA <3

  • same

  • i love the you cant keep me awayyy for EVER! its so epic the way the music style changes so well and fits :) epic song

  • this version is LOT MORE better than the original

  • I wouldn't say it is a lot more better, it is;;; simply different and on some aspects it is quite better and on others it is way behind the original.

  • How can u say it? It's a good version, but nothing compared to the original "My Land" from Ecliptica (the supreme album)...

  • @Code001333 YEs, Ecliptica is the greatest.

  • The 1999 version has a scent of wind, a bit wild and piercing. The 2006 has a scent of the meadow flowers... Both are just great!

  • The problem with remakes is that the majority of people will inevitably enjoy the original more, because its the one they heard first,as so its the style they associate with the song

Im in that majority it seems^^

"the i am a patriot" section doesnt have that little keyboardy section in between, which is probably my most memorable part of the song.

That said, some of the guitar bits are more interesting, and vocals vary as to whether or not they work for me,so its a mixed bag of SA awesomeness

  • I honestly can't decide which version of this song I like better. I like the original's vocals more, but the remake has such awesome guitar leads...

  • sonata is the best band in the world!

and any music they make is good!

  • I agree

  • Love this, but i prefere the orginal one.

  • SA you rulez!! best music in the world...

    keep doing that !!!

  • nice seems like a foretaste of unia^^

  • Not bad at all, but the original is ten thousands times better.

  • @Reingnus I can't really choose among the two of them. I think the BAND is really the EPIC ONE.

  • @Reingnus Still if you've listened the original ten thousand times, is refreshing to hear another good one :)

  • @LordTrivium89 You know dude, I tell you this, but before you must know that Sonata Arctica is my favorite band, the last 2 albuns of Sonata where, how I tell this, "weak" they dont have something, they lack something, something that I dont know what it is, but that something was the thing that makes me love this band I would love that they returned to what they where before, but well, that is just my opinion.

  • @Reingnus Of course, it's also my favourite band, and the last GREAT album was Reckoning Night y For The Sake Of Revenge (2004-2006). I don't know what happened to them, probably is because Jani Liimatainen and Mikko Härkin weren't in the group anmyore but they seemed to change a little bit their spirit essence of music in UNIA because i can tell you i only really like 1 song in that album... fortuntately, his last one (The Day of Grays) was much better than UNIA... wonder what's coming up next!

  • @LordTrivium89 I just hope that this awesome band dont get destroyed like Nightwish, that would be a tragedy, and more in a world that is lossing the good music.

  • @Reingnus I pray next album makes our pants burn from awesomeness!

  • @LordTrivium89 I hope that too dude, I hope that too

  • This is incredibly epic.

  • i just cant get 4:21-4:41 our of my head... i love this song =) old and new

  • la viola suena re piola pero deberia ser un poco menos melodico y esos coritos suenan para la re mierda,

q tony grite como gritaba antes la puta madre!

  • waiting for fullmoon remake : ) :D

  • Wtf, 3:49 was a major disappointment.

It's supposed to be like, "Never take aWAYYYYYYY!" but it wasn't...

  • To be honest, I don't like this version. It's like high school kids trying to imitate the real SA... Anyway, they don't play this version in recent concerts, do they?

  • I fucking hope not, this was always epic as shit before. The chanting at the beginning was brilliant.

  • too bad for you, because this is basically the current live version played at studio

  • Not really. The only thing I noticed that was exactly like their live performance these days is the solos, but then again, I really love how they do those parts live

  • Fallen4eva, they do play this new version in the concerts, at least they did in Los Angeles last year. This version seems to be more full all around, I enjoyed it more than the original the moment i heard this tune. I guess it's the vocal harmonics that gets me the most.

  • I love Sonata Arctica.. !

  • wat album is this on?

or were can i get it?

  • It's on 'the collection 2006' album.

  • @dumbcow1 It's also on For the Sake of Revenge.

  • wow..so good..so much different..and wonderful

  • in the nearby future, SA will become an acapella choir. unia and all their latest songs confirm it.

it would be interesting, though. as long as tony keeps singin, i have no complains.

  • I dont like the idea of an acapella choir. Sonata Arctica must be like the first 2 albums.

  • couldnt agree more

  • that would never happen they dont want to be a stratovarius copy again by the way Winterhearts Guild is my fav album its the 3rd^^ the first 2 were great too and i like unia too

It would be funny to mix the style of Unia with the first 2 haha

  • I like Reckoning Night best... it's a bit heavier and more complex than the first two albums, especially the guitar (or I just notice more because I play guitar :P). I like some songs of Unia, but certanly not all. Solo's are awsome though.

  • and what about the 3rd Winterhearts Guild its different than the first 2 too

  • Yeah, but for some reason I'm not that fond of it :-\ Not that I don't like it, but it's not my favorite

  • but i would say that they never go back to the old style so we must accept the new style

  • Yes

Musicians should never play a style they do not like

  • than it is hard for the fans to like^^ if they went beyond the borders <- sounds epic mmmh^^

  • This is the version ive been looking for, for quite a while now, thanks so much for uploading it!

  • Wow, I didn't know they've made a remake of My land until this vid caught my eye! Thanks for sharing this =)

  • Very, very good!!!! Sonata!!!!!!!!!! y.y

  • ( o Y o )

  • i am here to claim my land!!!

it doesnt matter if it is old or new version, this song is still so cool!

  • XD, when Sonata Arctica gets bored they are still great!

  • Not like it deletes the original, take it or leave it as you will! Personally, i enjoy its harder edge, and the background vocals are interesting.

  • Fuck

  • Um, firstly, get the fuck over it, they're Finnish. Try writing a song in Finnish and then we'll get them to judge your pronunciation.

Second, there was no screw-up to begin with, I have no clue what you're talking about

  • On top of that, he's not exactly one to be criticizing; "What a bad English"?...That's almost as good as when Bush said "Is our children learning?"

  • LOL I'm glad someone said it...

  • Amazing! SA ftw!

  • i'm not a huge SA fan but i've seen em a couple times and have some albums, i think all around their older stuff was alot more like power metal and as they've been getting more popular they're kinda diluted their sound for a more pop rock feel and it's a shame

  • I disagree with the new sound being pop rockish. Rather, it's progressive metal nowdays instead of power. And I like it that way.

  • there's a big difference between progressive and poppish. this remake reminds of a glam metal band, lol. i prefer the original

  • i take it you haven't listened to UNIA. there's nothing about it taht makes it sound more pop than wnything they've ever done before. it seems liek they ahve become more elitist over the years getting heavier and more progressive

  • Remakes, remixes and covers are cool (usually). Originals make em good and they make originals more fresh. This rocks.

  • why a remake?

    it was already perfect!

  • My Land is one of my favorite songs by Sonata and the original is sung with much more vitality and emotion... This remake feels... Cluttered...

Check out the part "I am here to play my hand" for example, notice how Tony really sound exhausted in the way he sings it in the original... Where is it here? Where's the dynamics in emotion?

  • I love both, but this might be even better than the original, hmmm...

  • It's good, but I prefer the first version.

  • this is better than old version..

    I love this guitar sound..<3

  • great remake, but like I always say: the original is the best.

  • I agree

  • it was ok (the original is obviously better), but the vocals ruined the song at many parts (I didn't like the "delay" effect used in this version, for ex),mainly at 4:10. all these remakes were almost a waste of time, unless the fans are tired of hearing the old songs (from 99 to 01) again and again (like me =D)

  • its good, but then again you really cant improve the song, the original version is perfect.

  • Wow, I like this one a lot actually. They added a lot of cool knicks knacks. Nothing beats the original though.

  • The old one is better

    ^^ In my opinion^^

  • its different not bad

    its good but not bad

the key solo didn't fit where it was THAT WAS THE HEAD BANGING PART!

but SA is still the best

  • true about the keyboard solo part but if you think about it, if Mikko was still in the band he'd do a major head banging keyboard shredding solo coz he's a better keyboard player then Henrik.

  • yeah mikko is way better just henrik has amazing stage presence so i like mikko in the studio but not stage and i still dont the solo is necesary my land was already perfect

  • I like this one better :D

  • Was never a big fan of the original song, but I actually like this version a bit better.

  • i think it sounds truly awesome i love it!

  • OMG...It's a REMAKE, not an improved version

  • Finally someone gets it :)

  • omg! is awesome

  • The old intro was really an important part of the song. The song is still good, but it's missing a mystical part now the intro sound is gone.

  • The final "Are you man enough..." Was epic in Ecliptica... now I feel like the song looses some power.. >_o

  • this one is different, but still powerful and beautiful, as we can expect from Sonata =)

  • original way better

  • "The original is better", but I like them both!!!

  • original is much better, its as if they took the original and said "lets add parts and take away parts just to make it different" ... there was nothing they could do to improve the original

  • This one is VERY good, but its also true the original is better!

  • too much choir... but not bad version !

  • I agree, and what the fuck they were thinking when they retired the keyboard intro.

But they are still Sonata, and that means the best power metal band!

  • the beginning is really missing... but it's not bad... In one hand, I really love replica's remake, in the other hand, I don't the really like this one...

  • Dude!!

where the fuck is the keyboard traditional beggining??!!

  • This doesn't hold a candle to the original... what where they thinking =\

  • this version is REALLY GOOD but... original is 10 times better than this one

    sry 4 mi english XD

  • altrettanto bella, ma l'assolo di quella ufficiale e molto migliore secondo me

  • more commercial version xD, but damn is good =P

  • Were can a download this?

  • I would have expected an "8th Commandment" remake since they have been playing it differently at their shows

  • The original was perfect! They should have left it how it was originally done though I do like the added vocals.

  • WOW KICK ASS i had no idea they did these remixes! Sonata Arctica is number 4 in my top fav bands of all time and that list has prob 100 bands on it..have they released these mixes on albums yet?

  • It's been released on the cd:

    The collection 1999-2006 ;)

  • Thanks, off i go to the album store to contribute to a band on my top 5 list :)

  • what bands are 1-3 then?

  • so shwhats yeur #1-3 bands?

  • i like both versions equally but i have to admit the lyrics are clearer on this version than on the original

  • love it!!!

  • Yeah, the other version is more rough, this is more polished. It's been "unia-fied" :D

  • WOW

    B ASOMBROSO¡¡¡¡

    AWSOME

  • it is really beautiful... argh, great :)

  • It sounds more polished than the original but I prefer the orignal. Mainly because the intro is better but also I think Tony overdoes it with the layered vocals!
