Great 2 part tribute to AM. The Command Lerner & Lowe album took many trips twixt needle & turntable in my humble abode years ago. I am reminded of the many times I saw Ashley play live. Perhaps the best one paired Ashley with native American classical pianist Jim Leaffe. Together they played the entire orchestral arrangement of George Gershwins iconic "Rhapsody In Blue" with Ashley's WurliTzer supplying the orchestral parts (natch) while Jim did the piano part. As usual, a total class joob of putting this together, especially the lovely scenes of nature to accompany the serene sounds. A few things: Dick Loderhose was a glue company executive (I think it was his family's business), the whole record thing was a sideline. The Paramount studio Wurlitzer was kept in top condition by Dan Papp as long as it was in the Paramount building, certainly as long as Crawford played it. Many pros did not like the additional ranks, GW told me that they "were inferior"
@56Packman Thank you for your comments. As a former cinema projectionist who had the great pleasure of working in the days when cinema organ interludes were still part of the English cinema going scene, I realize how important it is to try and mix music and visuals. Can't see the sense in anyone just sticking up a single picture to accompany their favorite piece of music. A pointless waster of time.
Excellent and Informative. Thanks for posting. I think Ashley Miller performs the The National Emblem March to perfection. Bravo Ashley!

Fascinating! Informative! Miller was one of my inspirations in the late '50s!

You are welcome. Were you at the COS convention in late August? if so then I think we met, talked projectors and had a few pints together!
