I think it would be nice to see more females in the hobby. My friend and I have been trying to get out wives into the hobby since we got licensed. It's not like they would need to buy any gear other than an HT as we both have more than one HF rig. Both gals are more than capable of getting their General lic. Heck, even be able to do 13-20 wpm CW.

I have watched many of this douche's videos. I find that he tends to be anti-HAM radio (boy, isn't that kind the point of being a HAM to support HAM radio!). I can't see what their looks have to do with ham radio. I would bet that the vast majority of us didn't go on there to talk to stuning women but to talk to people whatever they look like. You can't see what they look like so this is rubbish.

@burt2481 I went on the cb when I was 18 to talk to people and soon found it useful for meeting girls but I didn't go on there to meet girls in the beginning, so I think this video is wrong. Ham Radio is not about looks but about talking to people.

There is nothing degrading about calling your wife your XYL, or your girlfriend your YL for that matter. Hams use XYL because originally ham radio was all Morse code (hams call it CW). It's a lot easier to send three characters in morse code (XYL) rather than four characters (wife) and easier to send two characters (YL) instead of pounding out G I R L F R I E N D. Now do you get it?

I was not interested in Ham Radio at 8 years old. I was wondering why she did not work on her General / Extra as she was growing up and eventually developping an interest in the hobby. To have a license means nothing, getting on the air and be part of the Fun is more important. While you dont like fathers pushing their kids to enjoy contests, well it sounds like you did share your anger against the Hobby with her to such extent she could not be bothered. I don't know what all the controversy is about. This is the first video of yours I have seen. But I thought it was very nicely done. I especially liked the last 2 pictures: with your daughter graduating and of you circa 1960 with an S40B? and is that a Heathkit VF-!?
@burt2481Most hams seem like all they want to do is put each other down. Its no wonder the hobby is dying off. The new hams get into the hobby and the older guys treat them like crap all because "thats how we were treated back when." I also think the doing away with the CW test has also soured most hams seasoned against new hams. There are time i question why i got into the hobby myself. I like the ham hobby just not most of the people that are into it.

I was not interested in Ham Radio at 8 years old. I was wondering why she did not work on her General / Extra as she was growing up and eventually developping an interest in the hobby. To have a license means nothing, getting on the air and be part of the Fun is more important. While you dont like fathers pushing their kids to enjoy contests, well it sounds like you did share your anger against the Hobby with her to such extent she could not be bothered. Other than that, I enjoy your videos. 73

No one uses sex to sell radios and you may not like that but I find that positive and refreshing. As for getting the wife to pass an amateur exam less talk to me over "That Sh*t" as she calls it, no chance. At least she lets me have "My Sh*t" in our bedroom:-))))

Burt.....I think your videos are awesome. I am an amatuer radio operator as well. I think we have some things in common. I too have a sense of humor, have other hobbies, and don't let ham radio consume my life. Have you ever considered doing a video on correlations between certain diseases and sedentary lifestyles (which many hams participate in). Keep up h good work!!

@burt2481Most hams seem like all they want to do is put each other down. Its no wonder the hobby is dying off. The new hams get into the hobby and the older guys treat them like crap all because "thats how we were treated back when." I also think the doing away with the CW test has also soured most hams seasoned against new hams. There are time i question why i got into the hobby myself. I like the ham hobby just not most of the people that are into it.
