Settlers 2 was the best, its just a shame there isnt a buyable english vikings expansion. I know there is a translation, but thats not the same. I could have sworn there was another expansion for this too... bleh. I want it.

I am playing the Vikings ( with English language pack installed) and love it - but it is harder to beat the opposition, and I cannot win on the second island whatever I try. If anyone has played and got through that island ( and speaks English) I would be grateful for some tips.

brings back good memories, to bad the expansion never came in english but still settlers 2,3 and 4 were and are the best series of games the world has ever seen.

ubisoft should have make a remake of settlers 3 and 4 aswell instead of that crap called 5 and 6, with those wierd heroes and copy gamestyle of AOE. everything that came after the settlers 4 with the exception of the remake of settlers 2 is total rubbish, waist of your time.

I've been abusing the original Settlers II for some time now (abandonia FTW!) but since I got Win7 on this computer I'm thinking about switching to this edition so I don't have to worry about the sound issues of S2 on Win7. Is it worth it? Compared to the original, what's better and what's worse? Is there a game speed changer without having to cheat?

@lordbaver The game is fun! IMO its worth it. Yes the speed is changeable in-game, you can change the speed to 2 or 3 times normal and there is also a cheat which makes it like 5 times faster. Its nearly the same as the original though.

Fanatiiiick is right, after the settlers 2 this series end .... they called settlers 3 4 5 6 7 to sell them more, they arent settlers , it became a basic RTS series like anothers to makes money with the name,The settlers spirit isnt here anymore.Less fun, no more roads, "regular rts" ... sucks, for me its very significative that they made Settlers 10th anniversary like settlers 1&2 and not like the others.A come back to the best days of this serie

It's owned by Ubisoft now so obviously they'll only think how to milk more money out of the franchise, not how to make it better.

i think your over reacting :) in settlers 3 and 4 you have to think about your situation as well, and that makes the game good, and a real time eater, But thats exactly what a quality game has to do

and i can tell you as well, that the new settlers game has a potential to change the roles of the gameplay.

oohh, but there´s a big compatibility issue about this game, graphic cards based.... i can run the old settlers 2 on xp with no problems, don´t have info about vista or 7 though... i gotta say this game rules, really really good and relaxing game for hangover days eheh

Don't get confused, the game in the video is a remake of settlers 2 which was released in 2006 so there should be no compatability issues with it

The formentioned discussion is about the original settlers games which are over a decade old i.e. settlers, s2, s3

Simple answer-the game's too old to run on it. The same happens for Settlers 3 on my PC.

You could try changing the compatibility mode, though.

Right-click the game's icon.

Click Properties.

Click on the compatibility tab.

Check the box that says "Run this Program in compatibility mode for:"

Choose an older operating system in the drop-down tab.

Run the game and see if it works.

If that doesn't work, then chances are it won't ever work on your PC.

this is a strategy game and its fun im playing one of this game too .. you can buy a cd of this game or you can download it but choose what settlers you'll gonna play i think there are 1-6 i think settlers and im playing the 4 and 6 settlers

Its been released In england (seen a copy) and Ubisoft is based in germany, but it has not appeared in mainstream USA retailers (I live in the UK, found the USA info on Wikipedia)

Settlers 6 is not better. The settlers series lost it after 2 it became just like other rts basicly. But in 2 you had to think more and was more enjoyable at the same time. Part of the fun was the roads and supply chain they took it away after 2 and then it became a regular rts.

Does this add anything to what the original had? For example, I'm looking for more than a graphical overhaul, there were a lot of stuff that could have been fixed and I'd prefer it if the economic model was a bit more complex.

A straight graphical remake of the second game would be an utter waste of money to me, not only do I own Settlers II already, but I've played it to death, and only the new renovations in the series has kept me interested.

It's an extremely addicting game. Only goes to show that old games too had great gameplay and updating the graphics is a very viable option for re-releasing these types of games. The demo has it's hooks in me and Im thankfull I was able to procure the full game with a purchase on eBay. The demo has me feeling blue with it's 90 minute limit. Wish they would release an online purchase of it, I'd gladly pay twice to get it for this weekend.

there is, hasselnot..its very easy to get the feeling that there are no battles in this, cuz its extremely slow paced. I have settlers 3 and 4, used to have 5, but five was plain boring, nothing new, and a lot of the features of the old games were discarded. Last battle i had in settlers 4 i lost and took me about 2hours to build a formidable army. Its still fun, i like the music and funny graphics
