Seth Gordon didn't show everything.

Roy Shildt was connected to Steve Weibe, and surely this colored the behaviors seen in the film. Shildt's influence and history should have been included in the film instead of making a story about a record rivalry that didn't exist. I'm just terribly let down now that I know the scores were an anachronistic device for the plot. I loved it at the end, but real life is not that clean, black and white.

It took me multiple viewings to get what you mean about scores being anachronistic. Basically, (from the dvd-extras) the movie makers just filmed everything and at some point in that process finally decided to hang the story on a dubbed hero and invented villain. It's pretty artificial. But I'm still glad they made it so I could find out about the people still playing these games.

either way, Billy does now own the worlds record in Donkey Kong with a live, refereed game. any bickering about taped scores at this point is merely an emotional reaction to the movie because in reality the top score in DK is a live score done in front of 300 people on a verified machine by Billy Mitchel.

lets say it was a scam, how would you go about pulling it off? if they tape the whole thing, how are you going to edit in the exact scores on the same levels, and the same amount of lives? as long as they have the pcb verified first. which you can review the tape and verify the the pcb is legit, by the way the game is playing, and scoring. i just dont think u could fool someone, if they study the tape. if u feel otherwise let me know how it could be done? thanks

Its easily be done,reverse engineering a machine with a PC and saving states similar to what mame does or keeping a cabinet and just using mame, if you die record the saved state to where you died. Plus if you remeber the video in the movie had some glitches, why didnt he keep the copy and send the original if it was out of focus? i dont doubt his skill as a gamer, hes the poster boy for Twingalaxiesthey wont let him lose, my point is that world records are preformed publicly not via videotape.
