If you ask me, the story mode was shit. There were missing characters, a fuck load of plot holes, a lot of the story cutscenes were cliched, the story mode was terribly short, and we didn't even get to find out who Viola really is, since her true identity is rumored to be Amy. Also, Namco tricked us with the story mode trailer, into thinking it was going to have cutscenes, when in fact 80% was just walls of pictures.

Also they don't ever reference the fact of how the Soul Edge was resurrected when Siegfried destroyed it 17 years ago. Even something along the lines of, "... And somehow, it has returned," would have been a better explanation than what we were given, which was nothing.

No matter, both swords will return, unharmed, in Soul Calibur 6, if such a game will ever exist.

Just explaining the testers, Project Soul allowed every active competitive scene a chance to play the game ahead of time to give an in depth look at people who understood the game in detail with several pairs of eyes to see what needed changing or how they were doing so far. Fun fact is a lot of the free battle "souls" are named after people who helped out. I.E. Thuggish_Pond and Lost_Providence are both Chicago players I play offline that met PS at NEC this early winter.

I don't understand the rationale behind "rejuvenating" some of the core characters but not others, did they take out bad loans in between sc 4 and 5? Are they dodging the IRS? The characters look like carbon copies, they move the same as they have in every other game, now they just act younger and more "dopey". I'm sure they make some token effort to explain in arcade mode but it just ends up coming across as a lazier version of MK palette swapping.

Quoting TVTropes: "The first Soul game takes place six decades after Ezio's death in the 1520s, whereas Soul Edge is set in 1584 and SCV takes place twenty-four years later in 1608, despite his look and fighting style being a better fit for the Soul universe and both series being set during The Renaissance. Word Of God suggests that Ezio's appearance in SCV is due to the Animus, making Ezio a "ghost" of sorts (or making V a program within the Animus)."

@barksydephil the directors of Soul Calibur V left her out. they felt that since she is a ninja and their codes usually have some sort of code somewhere for retirement. Due to her age in Soul Calibur 5, she is retired as a ninja. They chose to leave her out due to that. Natsu's her replacement that she watches over. Sorry man. Look up one of their interviews

I also wondered if they just couldn't see her as a middle aged woman who hasn't barely aged at all. I could say that the same could be for Setsuka, they implied that she beat Mitsurugi one on one. She was out to go get him and she didn't had anything else in mind after she beat him...

@leon4000 on the Soulcalibur Namco page it mentions 17 years ago he fought Algol.The SC wikia made the assumption of him losing to Setsuka.Wikia's can't alway be trusted but it might be true but if it is that's a contradiction but honestly I think Project Soul wrote themselves in to a corner.They really didn't explain this story enough.

@JesterOnCrack because unlike Street fighter or Marvel(which offline features have gotten better in terms of vareity and in Marvel 3 and SF4) Soul Calibur Also this story mode sucks, it only has you play 5 characters and 2 of those are just variations of an existing character with a different moveset(unlike previous story modes where you played large vareity of ppl) and Arcade is barebones with not even an ending for a character if you beatit just a "Wanna go again?' screen.
