The only places in the Northeast I can think of that have good waves are Rhode Island & Maine (the water in Maine is freezing though) there's more places in Rhode Island to surf

He is a local and a fearless surfer.

I once saw him stab a white shark, cut out a peice of flesh, then take out a sheet of nori and proceeded to make a suchi roll. I never saw anything like that

I gets this clean in new york and rhode island in the winter because the storms that create these big waves are nor-easters.

put two and two together, take the name of the storm, which is the direction the wind blows out of, and the direction of our shorelines, south facing.

Did you go to Newport for Bill? or did you do Narragansett? I did Narragansett and the biggest surf i caught was about 11ft. Maine sounded pretty crazy. But i wasn't able to make it there.

Yes I was in Newport for Bill, but I sacrificed and filmed for the whole morning session that day. 6am to about 11 in Newport was absolutely going off. Then I jumped in the water for a bit but it was low tide I think and it wasn't really working anymore. I didn't stick around for the afternoon sessions.

I have surfed in Florida many times over the years, I lived not far from Coco beach, surfed Daytona Beach as well. There seams to be surf a lot, but just like most spots on the east coast late August to May seamed the best. Lots of off shore winds, unlike the Northeast where we can get the hurricane swell, but have west winds. Nice video though..

depends on the season.  it's fairly inconsistent, but late summer early fall can get pretty wonderful. i'll tell you one thing for sure is that it isn't like this 24/7.

but i'll take anything we get here in RI :-)

Nice! Would love to find some footage of Ruggles/Pt. Judith during Hurrucane Gabrielle - LATE 1980'S still the biggest, cleanest swell I can recall in RI. Anyone out there have it? Please post if so.

Regarding the size it always looks smaller on video you are shooting looking down and that makes it seem smaller, looked big to me plus scary rocks and cold water increases the pain when you wipe!

Hey, I was out with the sunrise crew out front at Ruggles the day it was photograghed for the Surfer Mag. spread. I have never surfed anything close since. Mike Reise, Trevor Burcoff, Garth Morgerra, John and Rob Rinkel. It was P-soup fog and giant with no wind. I would say solid 8-10 ft. Surfed later that day at Bluffs in Little Compton. So big that some sets closed out the whole break! My brother John had some great video of Ruggles later that day between go outs but loaned it to someone!

"Huge"? I wouldn't say so. It's certainly bigger than average, but huge is an exaggeration. Though, I guess it depends on the amount of experience you have. I've seen it plenty bigger, there.

Also, if the water is polluted at 1st Beach, it flows right past that spot. So, don't assume the water is "safe" when 1st is dirty.

BTW- Who picked the music? It's awful.

Incredible huge waves for right near where I live... being Newport..as I live in Saunderstown. Such scenes like this can be compared to the aweosme surfing scenes of southern CA & Hawaii...!!
