  • an audience pleasing ending if ever there was one!

  • PMT is a wonderful thing.

  • Way before CGI technology, a classic example of good old fashioned make up special effects. I remember watching this movie when I was 14, everything was an ok suspense/thiller story, and then BAM!, ends like this. I had nightmares for about 6 months.

    Thanks for share.

  • Damn

  • wtf is up with the 20th Century Fox fanfare?

  • In the novel, Amy Irving's character kills John Cassavette's character by suffocating him with a heavy rain coat. Why the blood gore pointless change?

  • @fanblow John Farris did the screenplay based on his own novel, maybe in the DVD extras they explain why the change. Anyway is an spectacular ending.

  • @fanblow for the shock value i guess.it is hollywood after all.

  • @fanblow maybe because the Cassavettes character is such an evil character that perhaps the producer/director wanted to give him the demise he deserves and the audience expects.

  • He blowed up real good!!!!

Or has someone said that already?

  • Nine camera angles of this dude blowing up! Michael Bay must have loved this movie as a kid!

  • Now THAT is how you end a freakin movie.

  • Was this before or after Scanners?

  • @Mxsmanic before, and Scanners totally ripped this movie off

  • Jessica Rabbit!

  • This is like Luke blowing up the Death Star.

  • this is the best death fucking anywhere

  • John kinda sounded like jack Nicholson in easy rider when he fell off the couch. He sounded like jack after he drank the jack Daniels or Jim beam or whatever

  • So many angles....

  • No wonder Steven Spielberg gave Amy Irving such a generous divorce settlement!

  • whats this? gunpowder pockets in his body? LOL

  • ... and this is why you should never eat Mexican food! Taco-Belle, straight to Hell! LOL

  • Rock and Roll!!!!!!!!!

  • 1:22 JIZZ. IN MY PANTS.

  • I'm listening to Rocketeer to the Rescue at the same time. So hilarious!

  • Amy, please blow me first before you blow me up.

  • HE BLOWED UP GOOD!

  • two words: holy shit

  • He blew up good!He blew up real good!! Much better than that Louis Del Grande character in Scanners.

  • They edited 13 shots of the explosion. That's a little overkill methinks.

  • I'm not thinking on Frankenstein...

    Are you?

  • Finally she put her power to good use!! great depalma movie

  • They showed him explode 13 times!!

  • Woah! She SO wore the wrong colour PJ's for this activity. Didn't forward plan that one at all.

  • I just have to quote the last couple of sentences in Roger Ebert's review of The Fury: "(Amy Irving) gets to unleash the Fury in the final scene. Is it as scary as the final moment in "Carrie"? Not quite, but it'll leave your head spinning."

  • de palma!!!

  • That kicked ass! Can't believe I never saw this.

  • Scanners influence?

  • @Clay3613 If you mean that The Fury was influenced by Scanners, no; The Fury came out in 1978, Scanners followed three years later in 1981. But if you mean that Scanners was influenced by The Fury, then most likely. Though it looks like Amy Irving's powers here are more powerful than ANY Scanner's, even Darryl Revok's.

  • i wish this happened in carrie

  • This movie is a forgotten jem.

  • He blowed up real good.

  • OH DAMN!

  • Now that would make a serious mess.

  • I know it hurt like hell. ^_^

  • ...wow! That's just fuuuckked up...

  • this was on a couple nights ago on the Fox movie channel. movie rocks! LOL @ Cassavetes exploding!

  • the dangers of your body not being ready.

  • Is it me, or the music sound almost identical to The Day That Earth Stood Still?

  • Five people blew up with John Cassavetes!!!!

  • she's jerking him off telepathically

  • A Crowd Pleasing Finale.

  • Being able to blow up people with her mind seems a bit odd - but it makes sense if you remember that this lady is Steven Spielberg's wife... and Carrie White's BFF.

  • What is enlightenment? Is your quest for truth beginning to feel like running around in circles?psychic abilities and powers, it is all possible.THE-HIDDEN-SPIRITdotCOM It is time to change the world.

  • Damn... she blew him up 13 times

  • @jungenbum dude i laughed so hard, countin

  • PMS claims another victim :(

  • If I ever have a daughter I'm giving her in adoption.

  • Thumbs up if TV Tropes brought you here.

  • I'm not thinking of Frankenstein, are you?

  • but...he was going to be a good father to her. WHY! Tell me why she didn't depend on that!

  • @xXMethodKidXx In fact, the late, died too young Cassavettes and 1 of my all time fave at her peak Amy Irving brought me here. 1 of the greatest endings to a movie ever.

  • He blowed up real good!

  • @xXMethodKidXx Whats this bout Cinemassacre?? :)

  • @bradley583 this scene is entirely unrelated to that scene in frankenstein where he throws the little girl in the pond.

  • Explosive Diahrea happens.

  • That's what you get for eating Indian food.

  • BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

  • john cassavetes only acted in this kind of crap, like "the fury", to get money to finance his own sublime, nearly perfect films. some of his films are the closest that filmmaking ever got to the sometimes painful truth of life. completely unvarnished and raw. -bobby cormier

  • @bobbycormier I love Cassavetes' films, but I can't stand it when his fans look down on films like The Fury. You don't have to be a snob to appreciate Cassavetes' films, you know. ;)

  • @egglady I couldn't finish The Killing of a Chinese Bookie. I'd rather just watch this over and over.

  • "some of his films are the closest that filmmaking ever got to the sometimes painful truth of life. completely unvarnished and raw" Good thing Cassavetes isn't around to hear his fans sounding like such douchebags @bobbycormier

  • I'm sure John Loved this

  • Dude that was cool...

  • With this ending, you could also call this film THE PWNING!

  • She really hated "A Woman Under the Influence."

  • oh, so this is where family guy got the idea from when brian and stowie bought that old house and then it blew up like 50 times from different angels. lol wow

  • @RSDjam17 Nothing in family guy is original.

  • Cassavetes was a million times better as a director than as an actor!

  • Good effects by Rick Baker, but I think Scanners did it better

  • I just don't understand. Why does the description refer to this as "over the top?" Seems subtle enough to me. :P :P

  • Great Music by John Williams..but a true trashy film... I want her power...I can use it on the ones who truly piss me off in life...LIKE...U

  • Man, I wish I had that type of power.

  • Amy Irving was so pretty.

  • soooo over the top....and so much fun

  • I know what happened to the head that blew off!!!!!!

  • WTF?????????!!!!!!!??????? LMAO!

  • she look so weird with her face walking in the corner. she lick his right eye it bleas on the lft . lol

  • Pre Scanners too! Great ending! Just purchased the movie, hadn't seen it for donkeys years. Great film.

Tell me this...(Spoiler alert!) When Kirk Douglas' son falls at the end then why couldnt he just float like he had about a minute before???

  • That scene just automatically earned a 10 out of 10 on my "HOLY SHIT!" Scale...

  • @StefanXXXII that was some classic stuff,I don't know if this is correct ,but I think The Fury came out b4 Scanners.

  • @jay55also The original Scanners movie was released in 1981, whereas The Fury was out first in 1978... So yup, you are 100% correct, Sir!

  • Compare this to the beginning of the movie "Scanners" which also involves an exploding body!

  • If they made an Xmen movie in the 70's she would of played a perfect Kitty Pryde.

  • @martinf74 They wouldnt have made an Xmen movie in the 1970s, because Xmen is SHIT and the 70s is COOOOOOL. ;P

  • BEST FUCKING ENDING EVER

  • Goresplosion!

  • I remember seeing the end of this movie on tv when I was 10 and it scared the shit out of me.

  • Apparently, John Cassavetes is made of gunpowder (1:48).

  • John Cassavetes. Master, I salute you.

  • Can you believe Spielberg felt in love watching this...? ;-))

    Great movie !

  • Cassavetes was a jerk in this film (his character) but he wasnt evil enough to deserve this happening to him! I found Andrew Steven's character worthy of a good blow up, plus he SPOILER cost Kirk Douglas his life in this film

  • ...goes the weasel!

  • Thats going to be one big cleaning bill.

  • Wow, Ex-Mrs Steven Spielberg just blew up Guy Woodhouse (from Rosemary's Baby')...KILLER.

  • What the junk?

  • haha PWNED XD

  • ahahahahahaaaaa

  • Hahaha she's such a shit actor

  • DIPALMA, MASTER OF SUBTLETY (a+++)

  • :O this is soooooo far from what i just searched LMFAO

  • Wow that was over the top, Plus why did it show the explosion like 18 times lol.

  • 13 times, actually

  • LMFAO!!!!!!

  • This would make a perfect constipation commercial...

That is one cold hearted bitch for doing THAT to the man. Shit, she could have just stopped his heart with her powers instead of completely obliterating him into a pile of mush. Didn't she get covered in all his bodily fluids and guts? Makes golden showers seem pretty tame if that's the case.

  • YOUUU LIKE MEENNN

  • Superb filmmaking!! This is one of my favorite Brian DePalma films. Amy Irving is gorgeous. Can someone upload the movie please!!?

  • Fatality!

  • Cassavetes is a god to real independent art. As a director he has taught me to see the beauty in the character and to cast someone who is the exact opposite of what they are in real life. "Thats acting" He an inspiration and a wonderful actor. who if I lived back in the day He was handsome and he knew how to act. Talent is the key not looks. No im not gay im simply saying From Guy Woodhouse to this character he had an art in front or behind the camara. He's an idol.

  • Great book.

  • The music in this film is off the hook.

  • John Williams, right after Star Wars. There have two classically great film composers - Bernard Herrmann ( DePalma's Sisters and Obsession ) and Willaims.

  • explosive acne

  • I wish I could do that to some ex-boyfriends.

  • She shoots. She scores!!!

  • KABOOM!!! HAHAHA!

  • He blowed up real good.

  • Man, thatw as actually quite good! I can't believe the many cuts of the explosion, though. It almost came off as a parody. lol

  • Totally influenced "Scanners"

  • oh that's hot

  • Also, wow 12 different angles of the explosion!

  • forgive my ignorance - would this have been filmed many times from different angles or once by many cameras?

  • Probably the later to be the most cost effective

  • Multiple cameras, so they wouldn't have to waste money on all the FX stuff needed to do multiple takes. Cheaper to do it once and get coverage with multiple cameras, all framed differently.

  • It's quite impressive anyway. I like the style.

  • @rememberyesterday

The amazing thing is how they got the head to twirl and fly straight up. it must have taken a lot of prep, since, as you said, shooting it again would probably involve cleaning that mess up

  • JEEEEEZUS!!

  • i see...

  • And so, don't ever offer to be Amy Irving's father.

  • reeeeeaching

  • John Cassavetes, RIP.

  • I love how his whole face is just flying around in the air, totally intact.

  • 13 shots. 3 shots too many?

  • Gosh damn! WTF!

  • 1 of the all time great endings to a horror movie. And boy! Did I have a thing for Amy Irving at this point in her life. One of my all time infatuations.

  • I don't know what would make you call that 'over the top'.

  • Almost afraid to ask how you feel about Paul McCartney's ex wife, Heather Mills and her $48 million settlement.

  • heather mills? just another evil 'modern woman.'

  • @blueeyesofice FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAG ;P

  • More evil than Happy Tree Friends itself!

  • This is the best part of the film! I like how he exclaims like a mentally ill person.

  • again...

    and again...

    and again and again.

  • This is some GOOD shit!! Funnay as HELL...!! hahahahahaa BOOOOOOM!!

  • better than the one from 'scanners'

  • Sick! Not too bad special effects for an old movie.

  • HORROR !!!!.....IF you want true HORROR try my ex-wife,s cooking.

  • That bad, Mate?

  • HAHAHA!!! How many times can one person explode in the same scene?
