Way before CGI technology, a classic example of good old fashioned make up special effects. I remember watching this movie when I was 14, everything was an ok suspense/thiller story, and then BAM!, ends like this. I had nightmares for about 6 months.
In the novel, Amy Irving's character kills John Cassavette's character by suffocating him with a heavy rain coat. Why the blood gore pointless change?
@fanblow maybe because the Cassavettes character is such an evil character that perhaps the producer/director wanted to give him the demise he deserves and the audience expects.
John kinda sounded like jack Nicholson in easy rider when he fell off the couch. He sounded like jack after he drank the jack Daniels or Jim beam or whatever
I just have to quote the last couple of sentences in Roger Ebert's review of The Fury: "(Amy Irving) gets to unleash the Fury in the final scene. Is it as scary as the final moment in "Carrie"? Not quite, but it'll leave your head spinning."
@Clay3613 If you mean that The Fury was influenced by Scanners, no; The Fury came out in 1978, Scanners followed three years later in 1981. But if you mean that Scanners was influenced by The Fury, then most likely. Though it looks like Amy Irving's powers here are more powerful than ANY Scanner's, even Darryl Revok's.
Being able to blow up people with her mind seems a bit odd - but it makes sense if you remember that this lady is Steven Spielberg's wife... and Carrie White's BFF.
