  • I still think that if they skated this program at the 2010 Olympics they would have beaten Virtue and Moir; I like Phantom but is was not as brilliant as this one.

  • Love love this program. gives me chills to see the crowd jump to their feet en masse at the end of the program. Considering they had the skate of the night, they should have won a medal.

  • this was the first of 3 world championship free dances in a row in which they beat virtue and moir. this was my favorite of the 3. it's a great rivalry, one which can take the sport to a new level.

  • Just goes to show even with COP reputation still rules to a certain extent. Being a team still on the rise they were underscored and that kept them off the podium. Two years later though and they are World champions.

  • They are not my favourites, but they would deserve to win the Worldchampion title here with Virtue/Moir second, Domnina/Shabalin 3rd...

  • I cannot decide which FD I love more, this or Eleanor Rigby. They're both so stunning. I loved POTO as well (gorgeous lifts!), but there's sth about these two dances that tops it.

and I still cannot believe this performance did not win them the title...

  • @Haley452 yeah, Eleanor Rigby and Samson & Delilah are my two favorites as well. There's just something incredibly beautiful about these two

  • That was just wow. They were the clear victors to me of that event, with Tanith and Ben maybe right behind. Meryl hushing the boos was just adorable.

  • You Tube mis-identified the track. It is by Filippa Giordano, but the track is S'apre per te il mio cuor from Samson & Delilah.

  • the way the audience rises in one huge wave and roars sends a chill up my spine (you can tell meryl felt the same way too).

  • Ah!

    It's

    So

    Beautiful!

    :)

  • I really feel that this should have been their Olympic program. It is absolutely amazing!

  • i was there. their performance was spellbinding. i have NEVER seen a skating audience leap to its feet like the audience did for this performance. when the judges stuck to their preconceived plan and kept them off the podium, the crowd booed mightily.when Meryl shushed the booing i became an uber fan. thank goodness they could not be denied in Vncouver. brilliant//beautiful/classy.

  • @sochi4teen Exactly! Well put. :) They're wonderful, no matter how the judging goes. ;)

-And sometimes, it takes a bad experience like this, to make you love a team even more. Their reaction was so classy. I love it. :)

  • Wonderful programme! I loved it.

  • Meryl and Charlie, good luck in Turin.

  • Meryl and Charlie, good luck in Vancouver.

  • may they have a performance like this at the olympics. it would be nice if a medal could accompany it this time, but i won't be choosy. to watch a performance like this is gift enough.

there is something "raw" about them, a diamond under the rough, but with an infectious spirit that draws you in.

  • Meryl and Charlie, good luck in Spokane.

  • Happy birthday Meryl. May all the best lucks be along with you.

  • They are both simply adorable.

  • Meryl is a very graceful ice dancer too.

  • Not sure yet. They are discussing it after the Olympics.

When I watch this performance ( and I have watched lots of times), it´s always like the first time beacuse it´s so glouriously beautiful!

    SIMPLY UNFORGETTABLE!

  • Are they finally abolishing the compulsaries?

    That´s news to me..

  • I heard this piece of music (in the first half of this FD) yesterday, and I thought of Meryl and Charlie. Can't wait to come back and watch again.

  • OMG! that girl that yells GO MERYL AND CHARLIE" in the beginning is my friend i think! i was so fortunate to see this performance live

  • Right! But why should the other top skaters hate Meryl and Charlie? The top skaters are all first among equals, that goes without saying.. and all have their fans... We all know that! However, I think that they must begin to get used to the fact that Meryl and Charlie are extremely popular and accept it.

  • Hello diodio0013, thank you for uploading wonderful skating vids. However, there is a hater who pretends to be a fan left some stupid comments on your videos. That "fanofdw", is actually NOT a fan of dw, he just pretended to be a fan of Davis and White, and wrote a lot of stupid things under a lot of their skating vids, and attacked other skaters who are competitors of D/W. He just want to make everyone hate Davis and White. Please delete his comments under your videos, thank you.

  • Maybe. For me hard to believe. They are the best technically and their coaches are the very best.

I say it´s an excuse to underscore Meryl and Charlie.

  • I read somewhere in one of these videos comments ( There are so many that I can´t say precisely where), that they still need to improve their body alignment ...and other things.. I am not an expert , so I can´t say anything, but I guess the person who wrote that, meant well!

Let´s hope that they and their coaches know what to do..

  • I checked this season and, in fact ,they increased the scores in the Compulsaries and received personal bests.

  • Yeah... sometimes three points below the other top teams.. I can´t understand it because they are the strongest technically, isn´t that so????

  • I've wondered if their lower CD scores are because Charlie seems so boyish(I don't mean that in a bad way), so they don't take him as seriously in CD's like Argentine Tango and Tango Romantica. On the other hand, for the same reason, he looks fantastic in the polka, where some of the older, "darker" men look kind of silly to me in the polka. Just a thought...and IMO

  • Perhaps.. but the judges are there to judge skating skills, not the skaters´looks....

I think that the judging pannels sometimes use the compulsaries deliberately to influence the final scores.. I read that they are doing away with the compulsaries after the OlYmpics.. so let´s wait and see..But when i look at the compulsaries results, I´m always thinking those scores may not be what the skaters really deserve.

  • Their own agenda! LOL! So true.. One of the things that caught my attention is that Meryl and Charlie are many times underscored in the compulsaries.. IMO they deserve better..But that has happened many times.Perhaps that´s part of the judging agenda.. I´m very curious to see whether it´s going to happen again.

  • @Belinda8881 Davis and White should have won either silver or bronze and Belbin and Agosto should have won gold at 09 worlds. I seriously think the judges just don't want an all North American Ice Dance podium. Look at what happened in Vancouver . Belbin and Agosto shoukd have won bronze over the Russians, but every Ice Dance podium has to have the token Russians or I think the judges believe the world will end.

  • @Belinda8881

They are gonna scrap that. I will miss it but I think it's a bit extra. Here they are 10/10. Can't wait to see what they bring out next season.

  • Yeah! They have their agenda.. whatever!

That would be very much fairer, but unfortunately those guys in ISU don´t mind about what is fair or not!

  • I think that they are brilliant, This is still the beginning, ..... they are going to improve until Vancouver.. Just think about it.. They certainly will be competing for the Gold

However, I doubt the judges will give it to them.......... As for the rest of the competitions, Euros, Four Continents , Worlds, the ISU should consider giving a fouth place at the podium or give two medals for the second or third place when the judging pannel finds it appropriate..

    It would be fairer..

  • I think that they even deserve it! But , will that imply that they have to retire from competing from that moment on?

That would make me very, verrrry, sad!

  • Please Gods, in 4 months, let us see them become Olympic Champions, PLEASE!!!!!!

  • Did you see the british eurosport version? Go and look for it, Listen to what the guys commenting said! The total truth!

Had no problem to disagree with those almighty jugdes, who had it all in their heads beforehand.

Rai Sport also said they were fantastic!

  • the most touching performanse out of this competition for me, amazing standing ovation, love the kiss n cry, love Marina's clapping with the USA call, and... the ending is oh well, but love how Meryl reacts at the end of video :)

    Thanks for sharing!

  • I wanted to say : I think Phantom is more mature

  • Never mind the thumbs down. Perhaps my english is not that correct LOL!. I love S&D.

It used to be my fave ever. Now I thin Phantom

is more matrure worthy of true champions.

It´s gradually becoming my fave ever..

  • Time will tell. Many thinks Samson & Delilah was their best program, including me who loves this dance to death. But honestly speaking, I think their Phantom of the Opera FD is more competitive, and they improve fast. :)

  • I love both dance. But I agree with you, this year's FD is very competitive, they really skate like champions. Really hope they do well.

  • I hope they are going to be the next world

    champions.

Unfortunately in ice dance the young brilliant skaters have to wait for the the other also good , but older couples to retire ,to win a gold medal. And last ,but not the least be pawns in politics and goings on between stronger and less strong skating federations.

  • They're gonna be World and Olympic Champions someday...

  • How could this out of the world performance not win the FD??

  • lol I have no idea why you have thumbs down...

  • This performance not winning at least the FD is total bullshit, all three medal winning teams were sloppy.

  • good luck in japan

  • good luck in russia.

  • yes, numerous people who were there told me the audience was totally outraged d & w didn't win the free dance. more significant is that the CBC (despite wanting to support v & M) and Eurovision experts raved about d & w's performance.

  • Beautiful...

  • Good effort for both. Errors and little issues that need to be corrected. Will come back once I arrange my thoughts later.

  • Great flash back of a memory. I'll miss Samson and Dalilah, but I think their current FD also has potential. Just waiting for the developments.

  • totally robbed... saw their FD yesterday and its absolutely amazing... way to go chuckie

  • Hi 10mblackmer, did you see their new FD or the exhibition of old FD? I mean, someone said they showed their new programs yesterday but there was no report yet. ANY information will be greatly appreciated! :)

  • you've seen their new FD? wow, did they have new lifts? any piece of info would be wonderful.

  • They've been my favorite since I first saw them in 2006-2007, their first season in the Seniors. I can't wait to see their OD which is a "Bollywood" number. Their FD I've read in their bio will be "Phantom of the Opera."

  • Good. They've been my favorite since 2006-2007 as well. And their FD will be "Music of the Night", I like the song.

  • So beautiful. I love this couple and I can't wait for their new programs. :)

  • I read that they're doing a BOLLYWOOD for an OD!!!!!!! Gonna be EPIC!!!!!!!

  • did any of the american tv broadcast their performance?? please someone tell me if there's a video like that exist thank you!

  • with no narration, you can hear the crowd's enjoyment grow. there was electricity in the air. you could watch a lifetime of skating and never hear a crowd love a performance so much.

  • wow, the number of views on this video!

  • I wish they'd placed higher. :(

  • This team and Virtue and Moir were much more exciting, technically better and artistically better than the top 2 team.

  • Absolutly fantastic performance.

It´s a pity they weren´t able to get a medal and it´s going to be very difficult for them next year in Vancouver as well with DelScho, DomShab, VirtMoir and BelAgo.

Good luck though. I think they´re great.

  • They should have won a medal, that's for sure! I love the ending! I wish them all the best for next season!

  • They should have been 1st in the free dance...

  • I totally agree with you. They were magnificent.

  • The will be the olympic champions next year :)

  • Aww what a performance!!!! I still don't know how this didn't medal!

  • They didn't medal because the same politics in ice dancing still exist. D/W haven't paid their "dues" so to speak. I think that's crap. Their FD was the most polished of the evening...certainly the most exciting. I'll probably catch a lot of flack for this but I still believe the Russian couples are assumed to be better than what they actually are. Frankly I haven't been dazzled by one in quite some time.

  • please tell me how they got the best tech score and 4th on performance for what even the canadian announcer (don't know her name) called the PERFORMANCE of the night (said so AFTER all but d/s had skated). why hasn't there been more of a stink?

  • I think there has been a big stink, at least on message boards. A few news articles after worlds even mentioned their ?? over D/W's placement in the FD.

While a medal is probably worth more, it makes me fiercely happy to know that D/W had one of the best performances of the night and the entire audience knew it.

  • B/A and D/S have been guilty of "overwrought emotions and movements" for ages. And are even worse now, b/c of Linichuk.

D/W's FD here actually does not look as "outwardly emotional" as their past performances, like SC. But something clicked that night, how do you explain the vast difference in applause between B/A and D/W's FDs, when they are so very similar? Both American teams and both opera programs!

About the overall placement - I think B/A deserved gold - but the FD placements were crap.

  • When? Their 2006 programs, Sexyback exhibition, and most of all, this year's World's CD, FD, and exhibition. The point here being, that if you think B/A aren't guilty of over-emoting, than D/W are most certainly not either. They have only just begun this past year to contend against the very top teams in terms of presentation, in the judges' eyes.

Why I think B/A should have won the whole thing - they were the cleanest in their 3 segments, presentation be damned.

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you. They were fantastic and you're right, the whole audience knew it.

  • With this performance, they should really be on the podium, I don't understand the result here...:(

  • the best free dance at worlds by miles!!!!

  • This music touches my heart. And I love this couple. I hope they keep this program as it's beautifully choregraphed and well paced :)

  • 0.04 ..

    굉장히 아쉬워요 ..

  • There's no country except Russia could send more than one ice dance team to the world podium. So obviously davis and white were sacrified. I'm very sad about this, but there's nothing could be done. So when are they the first couple in US ice dance??? IMO they're already the best but of course not in some judges' eyes.

  • What you said is very true. Russia is the only country permitted to have more than one dance team on the world podium. Frankly I haven't been impressed with Russia's teams for some time now. Even their current top team is not as dazzling as past teams. Personally I don't their current team paid their dues. They were 8th in Torino and the very next season a podium contender? Skating while Russian.

  • 1. They're not retiring. They haven't medalled, they can and the 09/10 season will be their 4th season on the senior circuit. B/A will likely retire post-Olympics and D/W will be the number one team in the USA.

    2. The scoring was all kinds of wierd this season. V/M should've won the CD but came in third. D/W should've won the FD, but were third. That said, they did have the highest technical score, but their PCS brought them down overall.

  • Quelle performance!

  • I keep watchingthis program on my dvd...such a beautiful and moving FD that moment at 6.15 sent shivers down my spine. its like listening to a beautiful symphony or watching my favorite ballet Giselle.

Thank you Meryl and Charlie for giving me such pleasure

  • I keep watching this again and again, too. Yes, thank you Meryl and Charlie for such a perfect performance. I'll remember this for the rest of my life.

  • I will, too. :) I just can't thank them enough for such a beautiful and unforgettable program. And they really made this past season seemed flying by...

  • I dont care wat the judges think...they have the best FD so much emotion and excitement in thier skating.

Tell me they're not retiring in 2010 it would break my heart.

  • she's 22, he's 21. I don't think they are retiring next year.

at the worlds they should have been on the podium, Virtue-Moir or they should have won this event. Meryl and Charlie deserved at least the silver.

  • I LOVE THEM, MORE BELBIN AGOSTO

  • Comment removed

  • Hi jpg: Thanks for your comment. We agree that V&M should have got gold, and D&W silver. Interesting that both couples have the same coaches. Such young couples who are so good at an early stage in their careers. I am thrilled by both couples, and can't wait to see what they do next. I hope that skaters from my country do well, but I do not decide my favorites according to country. Olympics again next year! Didn't agree with podium placements at this last Worlds, obviously....

  • Comment removed

  • Very few chances in the past that a dance team kept their free programs for more than a season, therefore we may most likely not be able to see this wonderful dance again next season, sad though, because this FD is my favorite for the past few years. I don't know why, but when I first saw Davis and White skating, they just reminded me of some great skaters in old time, I mean those pre-2000 or pre-1990 skaters(dancers), that's maybe why classic music works well for them(this and the 2007 fd).

  • I'm hoping they take the first half of S/D and turn it into an exhibition. Wouldn't that be gorgeous?

  • I love this idea! But first half is only 2 min, would that be a little too short for an exhibition? Maybe they could add some length of the song, and add some more beautiful moments, we would certainly love that.

  • The aria from the first half is longer so they could definitely make it a 4 minute exhibition piece.

  • I keep coming back to watch D&W, and each time I watch I like them more. Can somebody tell me who choreographed their programs this past season? Just think, these two are still at the beginning of their competitive career Awesome.

  • Marina Zueva choreographed this beautiful program! she and Igor Shpillband are D&W's and V&M's coaches!...:)

  • Thanks, joannix, for the info on the choreographer. What an exciting time for ice dancing. I can't wait to see what these young couples do next.

  • Very beautiful performance!! They should have been 1st or 2nd for the FD along with Virtue/Moir. These two teams had the best programs with incredible lifts.

  • WOW I really liked these two, I can totally relate to the standing ovation. The lift at 2:59 was so beautiful... What was their final standing?

  • 3rd in this segment, 4th place overall

  • I'm so glad to hear other people who feel the way I do: this team clearly won that competition. Even without a fair result, this performance was compelling and really transcends that crap... this is what skating is all about to me. My mouth was literally gaping by the end of it the first time I saw it.

  • Meryl and Charlie are so gracious...they seem to understand and be able to live with and go with the "system". I think it is a ridiculous system of judging, but doubt I'll live to see it changed. I love how D/W's emotions seem so real...and not ridiculous and OTT. Can't wait to see their programs for next season!

  • Hi aynatn: Meryl and Charlie are all you say. All 4 top couples are very good, but I believe M&C should have been on that podium, no lower than 2nd place (I would have given them the gold). This judging system is worse than the old one, but don't hold your breath waiting for changes. Like you, I look forward to seeing what M&C do next. Bravo to them. What an exciting time for ice dance.

  • Hi aynatn: I can't agree more. Their expressions were so true, they expressed the storyline in a lyrical way, very beautiful. Unlike some teams which always went OTT (I'm not naming names though...), they never acted like they were pretending anything there, they just gave you this sincere emotions, and everything just came so naturally. This is a certain kind of quality that I particularly love about them.:)

  • Yesterday I posted two comments to reply to ArtemisDianaSelene. Today I find that they have been marked as spam. I think that any rational, thinking individual who reads what I wrote would not characterize them as such. In fact, if you look right below Danzboy1, you can show them to read what I wrote. Correct me if I am wrong, but this is still America and we all still have the right to freely state our opinions. Whoever labeled my comments as spam is very immature to say the least.

  • Does anybody know how I can get this no comment video? THank you very much! I really want this video!

  • I'd like to second that. Seems we haven't seen the non-comment video anywhere to be broadcasted? So if possible, would you please upload this version to mediafire or somewhere else? Thanks very much in advance! :)

  • I love them soooo much! They really won me this season! THis is such a beautiful ice dance!!

  • They were the best in my heart in FD that night. It was heartbroken to see such a beautiful and stunning program finished out of medal. I hope them still happy that so many people love their skating, so keep skating and you'll stand on top of the podium one day I'm sure. You're my favorite ice dance couple.

  • Very well said, yunamao2010. I also hope this could somewhat motivate them to skate even better in the future. Let's say when you're head and shoulder above everyone else, the judges will have to agree. Believe me.

  • Charlie looks like Peizerat??? Umm, their hair does look alike, but not that much in person? Skating-wise, I don't know, I think D/W may be softer and younger. Can't wait till they mature in the future of course. Btw, this is the performance that I can watch for the rest of my life.

  • They should've won the free dance by a LONG shot

  • They remind me so much of Anissina and Peizerat... but softer and more romantic. I think these two are just fantastic... they're so beautiful to watch. I hope they give B/A and D/S a good run at the Olympics!

  • I hope so...but in reality, they will still be held behind by some stupid politikzzz...:(

  • ..actually Charles remind me Peizerat cuz of his look but much younger of course!...but yeah indeed this couple looks like the french couple but in a way that Meryl and Charles are so opposite in their looks but so complementary in their skating..they and Virtue/Moir are my fav ice dance couple!!...expect to see them inthe podium in Vancouver 2010!..:)

  • People, the Russians are not bad at all. Even as a big, big D/W fan, I don't think the Russians were that bad. I know they couldn't spin and their rotational lifts were not good comparing to the other 3 couple in the top 4, but the flair and attack in their FD were significant, and they had a lot of transitions especially in the second half of their FD. Linichuk came good with what judges were looking for, you have to agree with this.

  • Their opening twizzles were off as well and Shabalin skated on two feet for most of the 2nd half of their dance. Even Tracy Wilson commented on that . Alla (Piseev's wife) was on every dance panel and can be intimidating, especially with a relatively inexperienced panel. The difference in the top 9 dancers tech mark was only 1.5, which means the final decision was heavily weighted on the judges' GOE and PCS marks and therefore more subjective.

  • Actually the Russians were awesome.

  • this performance is just amazing!

It was the best free dance of the night!!

I hope they will get the medal they deserve next year.

  • I kinda agree.

I thought Virtue and Moir -1st, Davis and White 2nd, Ben and Thanith 3rd, the Russians were clearly the weakest!

  • How were they weak?

  • The Russians were the sloppiest. Her leg lines are even weaker that Taniths. Her catch foot spin is the worst i have ever seen. Least intricate choreography. Most lack of unison as well.

  • Reply Part One: I am not exactly sure why, ArtemisDianaSelene, you seem to be so obsessively invested in the Russian pair--so much so that anyone who, like me and many others, thought that the night clearly belonged to Davis and White, comes under attack from you. But in looking up your profile, I see that you are 14. That means that I have been watching figure skating for more than three times as many years as you have been alive.

  • Part Two: Therefore, I think my opinion of how beautifully Davis and White skated in comparison to the Russians, charter members of the shredded chiffon school of constipated ice-dancing, is just as valuable as yours. In addition, your reply to me that the Russians winning the gold proves your contention is ridiculous on its face, considering the many, many times that corrupt judges awarded medals based on politics on not merit.

  • This was one of the most moving and fiery performances I have ever seen in skating. Thank you Meryl and Charlie!

  • So badly underscored. I was hoping that they and Virtue/Moir would battle for gold/silver.

  • They should have won the free dance. Their TES was the highest of the night, but their PCS were the lowest of the top 4, which definitely wasn't right. They should've at least gotten the .04 more points they needed to get bronze! ;-)

It was a beautiful program and performed just about as well as they could do it. Sometimes the judging is just so cruel...

  • Классная пара!

  • Simply breathtaking.

    They are flawless.

  • This program was far and away the best of the night! Just listen to the response of the audience. Sooo beautiful, it breaks my heart that they didn't medal, I simply do not understand it.

  • i completely agree! this program is one of if not the best program ive ever seen(and ive seen a lot). but on the other hand theyre young and theyve got next year at olympics and worlds and who knows maybe theyll stick around until 2014.

  • Comment removed

  • But Belbin/Agosto will be retiring after 2010. Davis/White would probably be the #1 US team after that. It would be quite an opportunity to pass up.

  • absolutely, even though theyre so good, they still have so much potential and it would be a pity if they gave it up at their peak.

  • Belbin/Agosto have said they plan on retiring after 2010.

  • reply to 8cd03gro's comment : Do you know them in person? From where did you get this information about their plan after 2010, if I may ask? Please tell me it's NOT true. Had I been sacrificed through any "political" reasons like that, I wouldn't give up and would fight for the deserved honor until I get it. I hope them get this faith as well.:)

  • They should have gotten the bronze medal, or even the silver medal.

  • They deserved to win. Or at the very least, to medal... The judges were ridiculous.

They're amazing, I love them both and this program is my favorite ice dance program ever <3

  • Best free dance of the season! The judging system isn't really working ... especially for ice dancing because artistry is so important.

  • Judging shouldn't be based on seniority but rather on the performance itself.

  • Is not fair!!!!!!!! they are the best ever!!! The true winners of the night! go Meryl and charlie!

  • OMG!!... I cannot believe it!! waiting the whole night for this!!!..it's not fair!!...the best free dance of the night and the whole season!!..so obvious the audience had them as their fav..the standing ovation can assure that!...i'm so sure for Mery D and Charles W. their time will come soon still young!..by the way kudos for Tessa and Scott..also my fav..it's a pitty that this 2 teams have to fight for that 3rd place...:(

  • Best FD of the night and the season overall. So powerful and emotional. Beautiful skating. It wins my gold medal.

  • Just judging from the so's Davis and White should have won the FD. People were jumping up at the last beat of the music. All of the other top 4 had a less enthusiastic crowd finish.

I just finished watching all of the top 4 and the FD should have been between D/W and V/M. Don't know about the CD and OD, haven't watched those yet.

How do placements of 4, 3, and 3 not earn you the bronze? When V/M had 3, 6, and 4.
