The thing is...yes, they more than likely are manstream, but they are also from a different country. In America, most mainstream music, is shitty, and pop or dance music...completely different. And it is true, that within the recent years, music has just gotten worse.

To be mainstream the artist only has to be part of a widely accepted style. Metallica definitely qualifies, but I would say Sirenia does not. According to the definition of 'mainstream' the artist can also be popular or widely known. But it's not a qualification requirement.
Ugh...seriously....comparing rock with symphonic metal is like comparing techno with trance. I like them both, but I like trance and symphonic metal more, they usually have more melody and are smoother. Rock and techno rely more on beats. Wise up, people!
@Silvawolf100 And yet...it exists. Some people have never heard of Dublin, but that exists, too. Even Wiki and iTunes acknowledge it as a genre. Symphonic metal has a knack for vocals and melody that regular death or heavy metal and even rock don't have. That's why it's a genre and that's why it's awesome.

Well, I personally don't like most of what he did, but when you look at some of his songs, then you can see a lot of meaning in it. I can name a few rappers for both sides: on one sides those that make meaningless stuff, that is good for the trashbin, but on the other side there's those that write deep, meaningful raps with content. So, even for that, I wouldn't generalize.

I'm not at all a fan of rap, but even amongst then, there are rap songs that contain a deep meaning on certain subjects. If you want to generalize, then I think it might be better to say "industrial music" as music which was made for the sole purpose of making money and not for the sake of music or giving a message.

You don't have to like most of the existing music, but at least try to respect it a bit.

Metallica has fast, long songs full of long solos and even load and reload had heavy lyrics! 90's was a tough period for most metal bands so metallica, megadeth, anthrax, etc changed their sound a little bit but none are mainstream!
Within temptation, Nightwish and Sirenia are mainstream not metallica, don't compare Metallica to these bands!

Your logic fails, mainstream is something made with the purpose to play on radio if metallica made music with that porpuse they wouldn't be so long.
Being on the radio and well known is not mainstream, it means you're good. Put a person who does not like rock and he won't like metallica or megadeth that much now put him listening to sirenia and they will like much more, its more soft. Mainstream is not fame!

Take me for example: I'm not bound to any type of music, but there are genres that I can absolutely not hear at all, for instance soul (Amy Whinehouse) or Jazz. I absolutely can't hear music that tends to be sexist (e.g. 50cent). On the other side, I like listening to Asian music, which absolutely doesn't appeal to most people in the western world nowadays.

Well, I personally don't like most of what he did, but when you look at some of his songs, then you can see a lot of meaning in it. I can name a few rappers for both sides: on one sides those that make meaningless stuff, that is good for the trashbin, but on the other side there's those that write deep, meaningful raps with content. So, even for that, I wouldn't generalize.

I'm not at all a fan of rap, but even amongst then, there are rap songs that contain a deep meaning on certain subjects. If you want to generalize, then I think it might be better to say "industrial music" as music which was made for the sole purpose of making money and not for the sake of music or giving a message.

With industrial I meant "music for the masses" as in low quality, mostly auto-tune, the singers having no actual talent in their genre but appeal to the audience only, etc. Tbh, I have never heard of Front 242, so I can't say anything about them. But let's take lady Gaga, for instance. In my opinion, she has no talent for singing, but since she was different from the rest, she got popular. It still doesn't mean she makes high quality music.

But, I wouldn't go as far as saying it's the only original music left in this world, especially since there is more good music out there apart from Metal. Try out classic, for instance, because that is the origin of Metal (as well as the origin of many other music genres) ad still today very good music. You don't have to like most of the existing music, but at least try to respect it a bit.
