Here are a few helpful tips:

Tape down the lego board, that way you don't get all the unwanted movement, and it looks realistic.

Try setting up some house lamps nearby where you take the pictures, so the characters are more well lit.

Besides that, my only suggestion would be to build a bigger lego set.
