Women in shelters are not faking it. There's no way a woman would ever choose to go to a shelter when they had other options. It's a little cramped place with a bunch of other women and their children. They have like 4 sets of bunk beds per room, and they share a small living space. They just don't have any where else to go but back to their abusive partners.
A woman that was in there had attempted commiting suicide before coming there and was having to go on medication and we were regulating that and talking to the pharmacy and stuff. Every single one of them showed symptoms of PTSD. They offer specific counceling groups and services to help them find housing and jobs afterwards. OK? First of all, I'm a feminist, and feminism is not about having more rights than men or hating men, it's about equal rights. I appreciated the video, but I hate the title. I've volunteered at a domestic violence shelter and we've talked about this problem. We were the only ones in our city I think who have specific services for women battered by women.
We don't accept men there, however, b/c of the very fragile emotional states of the women, and even though abused men are obviously not a threat, having men there could be detrimental to their recovery seeing as how most of them are being abused by men.
I totally agree with the video that there should be shelters specifically for men, however. Also, since there is limited space in the shelters, women are only accepted into the shelters if they absolutely have no other place to go. Men often wouldn't have that problem. Many of the women in the shelters rely on their partners for financial support.
And I don't know if anyone on here has been inside a domestic violence shelter before, but the rooms are pretty small with lots of beds in each one, so having men in there with women would not work very well.
There's an organization called SAFE, stop abuse for everyone, and they have services for "non-traditional" abuse victims like straight men and ppl in the LGBT community and others if there are people on here who need those services or know someone that does. It's a really great organization and they unlike many men's rights advocates, they are not against feminism or domestic violence shelters...

The traditional family is not the only family set-up that can provide love and care for a child! There are many alternatives (reconstituted families, single parent families etc!). Women in shelters are not faking it. There's no way a woman would ever choose to go to a shelter when they had other options. It's a little cramped place with a bunch of other women and their children. They have like 4 sets of bunk beds per room, and they share a small living space. They just don't have any where else to go but back to their abusive partners.

Never once did I say we are the eternal victims. I was commenting on the abuse I witnessed first hand that you have absolutely no knowledge of. You simply chose to spit in the face of all the victims I had worked with in those shelters who had gone through a tremendous amount of abuse. You are my friend one sick bastard, not b/c you are a man, but b/c of the sickening comments you have made against against victims of domestic violence and against women in general.

The victims are exaggerated! There are equal amounts of gold digging women who fleece men in divorce court! And strip their fathers of meaningful contact with their children.
Rape and Abuse are exaggerated by feminists to hurt the men of the West. Plain and simple.
Yes there are victims, but in your spirit with equal work, without equal effort, you should notice all victims of abuse, male included.

Did you not hear me talk about how there needs to be more awareness on abuse against men and other "non-traditional" victims about a million times already??? Regardless, it doesn't make it ok for you to say shit like that to real victims of abuse, male or female... It was extremely insensitive and disrespectful. What I witnessed was not exaggerated. They weren't acting. And I'd like to know where all of your stats come from. You never cite a single one of them...

Actually false rape allegations are a far worse problem than rape. Given that half of rapes simply didn't happen.
And for women, in divorce court, it is a slam dunk to file a restraining order in the event of divroce.
There are also 1 million false claims of abuse each year against men, usually during a divorce case.
Did you hear the case about the woman who put her husbands semen on her children and called the cops? Kobe Bryant Anybody, Duke Lacrosse? Wake up ladies, we are sick of liars.

Believe me, no one would go to a shelter if the claims were false. It's not somewhere you'd want to be... It's the last place you'd ever want to go. Those women in the shelter I worked at were being abused, period. And you just make all these claims and spew out a bunch of numbers but you never tell me where the info is from.

I would never deny that men can be victims of domestic violence, or that they deserve funds just as much as women. It's true that when men are victims, often times they are ashamed, and not recognized anyway. I am a feminist, but I don't think that women deserve rights OVER men.

I think his understanding of true feminism is underdeveloped. Any true feminist would not have a problem with help for domestically abused men. Women should be prosecuted for their crimes. That is true feminism. EQUALITY between men and women.

Where are all the "true feminists" who actually acknowledge that DV on men exists at all? Why is it that everytime I see a feminist in the media, she has a disturbing hatred towards all men? Because they are hateful hypocrites who call themselves feminists and give a bad name for the rest of us. People should be respected under the law as people, not separately as 'men' or 'women'. Anyone who believes that women should have an upper hand or anyone who hates men is not a feminist, no matter what they call themselves. Believe me, I'm just as angry at these people as you are, if not more. They make people like me look bad.

Maybe im not clear enought because english is not my main language and i apologize for that. Think for the futur of your civilization (not just for women). What about men right when they remove most of the competition aspect in school? Why theres more women than men in university..?

The traditional family is not the only family set-up that can provide love and care for a child! There are many alternatives (reconstituted families, single parent families etc!). As for more women at university, good for them! Evidently, women are just as competant as men! It's a shame that depsite being more educated than men, women are still affected by a gender pay gap and are still deterred from occupying top positions and the glass ceiling is very much present!

This "glass ceiling" thing is a myth, create to put quotas. A women can work as good as a men (depend of the job) but she need to earn his job. I have a lot of imcompetent women at my job just because we have a quota and they cant be fire.

The glass ceiling is not a myth, women are underrepresented in higher positions and are bound by narrow gender expectations. The only myth here is the quota system, because if it were real, there'd be far more women not only working outside of the home, but in higher positions. It's just a counter argument to justify the discrimination of women in the work place.

And is it too hard to believe that women are now more competative and starting to seek such jobs? However, they still face a stigma for opting to study male dominated professions and rejecting or delaying motherhood and/or marriage. In the US and UK (not sure about Canada) unmarried women are the fastest growing demographic, so clearly their priorities have changed.

I can believe that women are seeking such job now, but its a beginning, let the time do his job. Its probably the same in canada, but i dont think modern men want to marry more than women. Its stange but most of the girl i know want to work in male dominated professions because they cant stand working with women.

I'd agree with you about women not like working with other women. I know many women (friends & sisters) who associate more with men and more 'masculine' priorites and social activites. They appear to reject the image of the silly hyper-feminine woman in favour of the company of tolerant and women-friendly men.

And yes, traditional family are a "lot" better. Im happy for women if they are good at university, but for 30 year everything is set for women in education. By removing competition, individual work..etc from the school, we created a "for women only" school.Did you ever care about boys? Sure not. They are not oppressed as you are.

What has been created is opportunities for women, and it just so turns out that women rose to the challenge! As for "women only" schools, we've had same sex schools in Britain for many many years and they work very very well for both boys and girls! I don't regard myself as oppressed, I've been through the education system up to and beyond university level, and experienced no such discrimination for being male!

They work well? So why around 76% of the boys loved school in 1970, and now its around 32%? How many men teacher do you have? How many hour of sport do you have per week? etc...I know it create opportunities for women and thats a good thing but you dont need to forget the other 50%. Didnt notice you were a boy srry, maybe you work a little more like a women (not an insult). Most of the boys need competition or at least goal to be motivated.

No offence taken...lol! I recognise that boys seem to enjoy school less, but we cannot blame women. In Britain single sex schools preform best, in part because they select their pupils. I think enjoying school depends on many things - poorer schools are less resourced and bullying/aggression are common.
