Experience gain is a function of your proximity to the death of a minion, not whether or not you last hit it. I just didn't want anyone getting confused thinking they only got experience from last-hitting.
@RAPiDtrans1t247 While this is true for League of Legends (and the series is about LoL) this was stated as "general tips for every moba", and as such, includes games like HoN and DotA, in which you lose out on exp if you get your minions denied. As deny is not part of the LoL gameplay, this doesn't affect LoL, where experience gain is only determined by proximity to the creep, as you said.

You don't gain bonus experience past simply standing by a dying minion... But you do need to be near minions to gain exp and by lasthitting you can gain experience safely by tower as well as using long range abilities where you're outside of exp range get you the experience. You won't get experience on wraiths from mid lane normally, for example, but by killing the wraiths you do get it... if that makes sense
