greatest, most beautiful shot ever. In his prime it was easily released from 11 to 12 ' up. He was the unstoppable scoring champion ever. He jumped as high as needed. If you didn't see him play in person you can't have perspective. There will never be another like Kareem. Imagine a shot released from 12' up then an arm keeping the defender 2' away. Men like Wilt & Thurmond only hoped to hold him to 30pts. They might have been older but it wouldn't have mattered. Sky Hook ruled
The Kareem era of LA Laker basketball is the only era I repsect. The 2000-2002 Laker dynasty was a fraud/scam. Also the recent championships LA won was not impressive as 2009-2010 had weak teams.

The Lakers should do the right thing and get started on Kareem's statue at Staples Center. Considering that he has Leukemia, it won't be long until Kareem may pass away. Leukemia is a killer disease. He may be managing it now, but he can die at any time without any form of notice.
Leukemia is nothing to be playing with. Give "The Captain" his due!
@327372 Amen to that! The last thing I want to hear is Our Captain to be sinking(No pun intended). But Leukemia is currently ranked 21st in the United States and 41st in the World in Causes of Death. Like I said before, this is a disease not to be taken lightly.
@L3g3ndkill4 When you say "Cured", do you mean completely overcoming it like if you or me were to overcome, let's say, The Flu? What do you mean when you say "Getting cured"? Leukemia is a disease, and if I am not mistaken, diseases stay in your body permanently. Like Magic Johnson having the HIV VIrus for an example.
@tw69hands2 Thank you for agreeing with me. And I also hated to admit it as well, but facts are facts and all we can do is to hope and pray that the Disease that is inside "The Captain" will not be overcoming him anytime soon. Outside of "Big Wilt", Kareem was the Greatest Center to play for the Lakers.
@sportman2536 Really? Then why did make such a stink about it to the Lakers in seeing statues of West, Magic and Chick Hearn? Kareem demanded the Lakers to build a statue of him alongside the other Lakers Legends around the Staples Center.
Kareem believes that the Lakers owe him that much, and I am highly on Kareem's side of this argument. The Captain must be given his due!

@whole27 If Kareem played today, it'd be easier for him. How did you dismiss the fact that there are almost no NBA centers outside of Dwight Howard and a couple of decent centers here and there? Kareem would just sky hook on all of them all day. Dwight Howard and today's fat Shaq would be an afterthought next to Kareem. Don't discredit the Captain just because you didn't get to see him play. Watch some game tape and educate yourself rather than make idiotic claims.
@tklsmooth Amen. He gets overlooked now because he didn't suck up to the media. And he had good reason for his reaction to them. A lot of the s&^* he put up with was ridiculous. @tklsmooth Thats bullshit, Wilt could block sky hook on occasion . I saw three plays here on you tube of Wilt blocking it celarly . Another dumb post by you .
@garioldwin YOU'RE AN IDIOT ! YOU SAW WILT BLOCK 3 OUT OF 100s ! I CAN TELL YOU'RE NOTHING BUT A COWARD WITH A BIG MOUTH ! FAKE ASS INTERNET GANGSTER ! TOUGH GUY ON A KEYBOARD ! TRICK
@0088willy I'LL MATCH KAREEMS STATS ON BOTH ENDS OF THE COURT AGAINST ANY PLAYER IN HISTORY AND I BET HE'S THE ONLY ONE AMONGST THE TOP PLAYERS IN EVERY CATAGORY ! WILT WAS GREAT, NO DOUBT ABOUT THAT ! BUT HE PLAYED MOST OF HIS BEST YEARS AT A TIME WHEN THE AVERAGE NBA CENTER WAS 6-7 ! HIS ONLY REAL COMPETITION WAS BILL RUSSLE, UNTIL KAREEM CAME ALONG ! LOOK AT THE TOP 20 CENTERS IN NBA HISTORY ! KAREEM WORKED EM ALL ! INCLUDING WILT !
@tklsmooth Lol you dumb fuck , Bill Russell was not the only competition for Wilt . Wilt got the record 55 rebs against Russell . Wilts career average is 30ppg and 23 rpg while in the games against Bill Russel is 30ppg and 28 rpg! You got big mouth and thats just about all you have .
@larrycro WILT WAS TRUELY ONE OF THE GREATEST CENTERS AND PLAYERS IN HISTORY BUT DURING HIS PRIME THE AVERAGE NBA CENTER WAS 6-7 ! WHEN KAREEM CAME ALONG AND AFTER, THE LEAGUE WAS FULL OF TALENTED 7-FOOTERS AND KAREEM WRECKED THEM ALL, INCLUDING WILT ! KAREEM MOPPED THE FLOOR WITH ALL THE BEST POWER FORWARDS OUT THERE TOO !
@tklsmooth The average size of nba centers in 60's then was never 6'7' , why dont you go on stats reference and check the centers size in 67' season , which was Wilt's best . Dont talk shit witouth backing it up .
@garioldwin TRICK ! YOU AINT PRESENTING NO FACT'S ! JUST RUNNIN YOUR BIG ASS COWARD MOUTH ! YOU TALK THAT SHIT LIKE YOU WANT TO BEEF OR SOMETHING ! I'M IN L.A. ! YOUR COWARD ASS IS PROBABLY IN BACKWOODS WEST VIRGINIA OR SOMEWHERE LIKE THAT ! IF YOU GOT A BEEF LET'S GET TOGETHER AND HANDLE IT COWARD ! DONT BE A FAKE ASS TOUGH GUY ON THE INTERNET !
@tklsmooth Well said. People that don't know history fail to understand this. Kareem and the players from his era and forward, changed the way the big man played.
@epics7 YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT ! YOU CAN SEE THE EVIDENCE OF IT TODAY IN HOW DIRK NOVITZSKI PLAYS THE GAME ! A 7 FOOTER WITH A DEADLY FALL AWAY JUMPER ! UNHEARD OF !
@tklsmooth Also, there use to be a center from the Detroit Pistons during the Bad Boys era that had a better fall away jumper than Dirk. I laugh when these young generation think that Jordan created the already existing move. And let's not forget Ralph Samson. Despite his injuries, he was the most versatile 7 plus footer on the court. He played like a guard and they hated him for it. Now they praise the 7 footers with skills like that.
@epics7 I FEEL YOU ON THAT ! TOO MANY PEOPLE DONT WANT TO GIVE RALPH SAMPSON HIS PROP'S BECAUSE OF THE WAY HIS CAREER ENDED BUT WHEN HE WAS THE CENTER FOR HOUSTON HE WAS A BEAST ! THEY MOVED HIM TO POWER FORWARD WHEN THEY GOT HAKEEM BECAUSE RALPH COULD PLAY EITHER POSITION AND HAKEEM WAS A PURE CENTER ! UNFORTUNATELY, RALPH DID'NT LIKE THE MOVE AND POUTED BECAUSE HE WANTED TO BE THE CENTER ! IT LATER EFFECTED HIS CAREER AND HIS LIFE ! SAD !
@epics7 YEAH ! THEY DONT KNOW THAT IT WAS STARTED BY ELGIN BAYLOR AND CONNIE (THE HAWK) HAWKINS, THEN THE TORCH WAS PASSED TO DR. J, AFTER THAT THE TORCH WENT TO A YOUNG FELLA NAMED DAVID THOMPSON (DAVID T SKYWALKER) AND EVEN THO THIS MAN PLAYED WHILE JORDAN PLAYED, YOU HAVE TO INCLUDE THE HUMAN HIGHLIGHT FILM- DOMINIQUE WILKINS ! THESE YOUNGSTERS HAVE THE MISCONCEPTION THAT EVERYTHING HAPPEND IN THEIR TIME BECAUSE IT WAS THE FIRST TIME THEY SAW IT ! LOL ! EVERYTHING TODAY HAS BEEN DONE BEFOE !
@waylong32 And if Arvydas Sabonis was so "Versatile", answer me this. How many Rings does Sabonis have? Always a pleasure seeing Shaq bitch slap that loser everytime in the Playoffs. And it was so funny seeing Sabonis crying on the Portland Bench that one time they played the Lakers in the Playoffs. Why did he cry? Because he knew that he was getting owned by "The Big Diesel", and he could do anything about it.
@Jiltedin2007 Versatility has nothing to do with rings. Oscar Robertson was probably the most versatile player to ever play in the NBA and pretty sure he has only one ring so where's your argument? And no shit he got owned by Shaq but Shaq was also in his prime and Arvydas wasn't, he was old. Players get old, it's a fact of life. And Shaq was the most dominant player ever besides maybe Wilt and Jordan, still doesn't mean Arvydas wasn't versatile.
My top ten players of all time. 1.Kareem Abdul Jabbar 2. Michael Jordan 3. Bill Russell 4. Kobe Bryant 5.Wilt Chamberlain 6.Magic Johnson 7.Jerry West 8.Larry Bird 9.Dr. J. 10.Shaquille O'neal
@tklsmooth Most def. Hakeem was a way better player than Shaq. He clowned Shaq during the finals. David Robinson couldn't stop Hakeem when they met up.
My top ten players of all time. 1.Kareem Abdul Jabbar 2.Michael Jordan 3.Bill Russell 4.Kobe Bryant 5.Wilt Chamberlain 6.Magic Johnson 7.Jerry West 8.Larry Bird 9.Dr. J. 10. Shaquille O'neal
Greatest Center of all times. So many seasons, so many playoff games, so many championships. If Kareem was playing today he would still be the best center in the NBA.
It's funny that I think of it. Before people considered Kareem the greatest basketball player of all time. Then came a long Bird and Magic and they called them the greatest of all time, then came a long Mj, then they called him the greatest. It's weird. In different eras they have different "GOAT" 's now look who's next? Kobe? Lebron? Damn people keep changing their minds.
i think that if kareem had got atleasy 4 finals mvp he would have been considered the greatest but magic is considered greater than him caz magic got 3 finals mvp kareem could have been the greatest but its cause of the mvp finals
Hi! I think that Kareem was robbed the 1980 final MVP! It is true that Magic played an dincredible sixth game against Philadelphia, but it is also very true that Kareem played like a god in this series. Just ask Darryl Dawkins how he felt whenever Kareem touched the Ball ("I was scared of the sky-hook all the time", he said).
No doubt that Magic had an incredible performance in game 6 of the 1980 finals. But Kareem dominated the series, and without him The Sixers would have won the championship that year.
@Fernandocatan You are so right. Even though back in 1980, Kareem felt that the Playoff MVP Award was his. He's not crying Sour Grapes about it now 32 years later. Playoff MVPs are minor things to fight about, because when you play in the Playoffs, IT'S ALWAYS ABOUT THE RINGS!
Magic maybe is Just magic, but Kareem will always be "The Captain" of the Lakers.
sky hook too good...if you're tall and you can do it it's more or less unstoppable but kareem is da only guy who ever can shoot em consistantly and from all angles
THIS is the greatest basketball player of ALL time, hands down. Not "Air", Kobe, LeBron, Shaq or anyone else for that matter. Kareem's teams (from AAU, High school, college and pros) have a winning percentage that is unequal. PLUS, he won championships at EVERY level and would have a gold medal but he decided to not do the Olympics. Not one has a resume like that.
@bdownbear1 dwight howard's young dude give him a chance, and for the 5 years he has been in the NBA he's been phenominal... But yea besides him there is not too much good centers these days
@bdownbear1 And how about Shaq during his Laker Days? Remember, when we won the 3 straight from 2000 to 2002, Shaq was Playoff MVP for all 3 of those Laker Championships.
kareem is the better player.. i used to go to the same mosque as hakeem though and played some basketball with him 8 years ago at the gym hakeem is amazing guy though
@kadees21 Kareem. He wasone of the three best centers ever, along with Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain, and was arguably the best of the three. Hakeem is no slouch, a notch below them at number 4 all time, with Shaq close behind him.
I didn't say that but Julius Erving did, he said: Kareem to me is the greatest to ever play proffesional basketball, and he said that seriously. Watch my amazing mix about Kareem: /watch?v=xPVqAztffyE
I agree with you about this. There are many people who do not consider what the record books say and they say he is the greatest. No one on this planet has a basketball resume like Kareem. From high school to the pros. His records are stacked and no one can compare. He was not media friendly or flashy and that is whar hurts his legacy.
@tank3ful omg if shaq played in wilts day shaq would have 50,000 points because he would be able to stay in the lane for how long he wanted and with 6foot 6 defenders shaq would dunk all over them just like he did to david robinson and oliajuwon
@GamerNifficent09 look up the average height of players from 1960-1970. you'll be very surprised to see it is not drastically different than todays. the only difference is the talent depth
@WiltatKansas: i agree. Kareem is the greatest. just look at all his accomplishments, the greatest one being the all-time points leader. I have no idea why hes so underappreciated? My three favorite centers Kareem, Hakeem and Shaquille. true legends. today's garbage like dwight howard with his shitty post moves just cannot compare.
@Monopolyman1975 It's obvious that you never saw Kareem in his prime, but don't worry, many people has the same lack, Kareem destroyed Julius Erving in a one on one, he would do the same against anyone.
@WiltatKansas I agree with you wholeheartedly. He does not get thecredit he deserves because he was not flashy, not media friendly and he converted to Islam. There is no one on this planet with a basketball resume' like his.
@remoand I'm a fan of Wilt Chamberlain but if i have to pick a better player i will go with Kareem, he's the player who most impressed to me, i think he's unbelievlable, but it's even more unbelievable how underestimated he is :D
@remoand If you're a fan of Jabbar you should pass withouth taking a look to this amazing video that i eprsonally made as a tribute to him: /watch?v=dFgcMoDSILo
It's actually the best video of Kareem that you ever will see.
The best pure scorer, for sure. Did you know that he only made one three pointer in his entire 20 year career? Simply amazing. The others needed hundreds of threes just to get close to his record.
Sure it's difficult to catch his record, you must play 2 decades like him. Jordan played only 13 real seasons (not counting wizards) and is only 6000 points behind, so it's MJ - the greatest pure scorer. Jordan together with Oscar Schmidt from Brazil, who scored 49 000 points in his career.
@paparazis WHY NOT COUNTING IN WIZARDS?MJ WAS 40 BUT JABBAR RETIRED WHEN 42!JABBAR ALSO COULD N'T AVERAGE 30 IN 80'S SINCE HAD MANY GREAT TEAMATES(MAGIC,WORTHY,WILKES,NIXON,B.SCOTT,MCADOO) SO THEY HAD TO SHARE THE SHOTS!IN 70'S WHEN WAS THE LEADER OF HIS TEAM AVERAGED 29P.15REB!EVEN THOUGH MAYBE JORDAN WAS SLIGHTLY BETTER SCORER ALONG WILT!
I stand Corrected the Bulls defeated Kareem Just 1 time in his career! Showtime would've defeated the Bulls in finals series. What about the other dozen losses Jordan had against Kareem....Hmmm Sir!
damn it takes a lot to be able to get that sky hook froma stand still

WILT WAS GREAT, NO DOUBT ABOUT THAT ! BUT HE PLAYED MOST OF HIS BEST YEARS AT A TIME WHEN THE AVERAGE NBA CENTER WAS 6-7 ! HIS ONLY REAL COMPETITION WAS BILL RUSSLE, UNTIL KAREEM CAME ALONG ! LOOK AT THE TOP 20 CENTERS IN NBA HISTORY ! KAREEM WORKED EM ALL ! INCLUDING WILT !
tklsmooth 10 months ago

KAREEM MOPPED THE FLOOR WITH ALL THE BEST POWER FORWARDS OUT THERE TOO !
tklsmooth 10 months ago
@tklsmooth The average size of nba centers in 60's then was never 6'7' , why dont you go on stats reference and check the centers size in 67' season , which was Wilt's best . Dont talk shit witouth backing it up .

@tklsmooth Well said. People that don't know history fail to understand this. Kareem and the players from his era and forward, changed the way the big man played.
epics7 6 months ago
@epics7 YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT ! YOU CAN SEE THE EVIDENCE OF IT TODAY IN HOW DIRK NOVITZSKI PLAYS THE GAME ! A 7 FOOTER WITH A DEADLY FALL AWAY JUMPER ! UNHEARD OF !
tklsmooth 6 months ago
@tklsmooth Also, there use to be a center from the Detroit Pistons during the Bad Boys era that had a better fall away jumper than Dirk. I laugh when these young generation think that Jordan created the already existing move. And let's not forget Ralph Samson. Despite his injuries, he was the most versatile 7 plus footer on the court. He played like a guard and they hated him for it. Now they praise the 7 footers with skills like that.
epics7 6 months ago
SAD !
tklsmooth 6 months ago
LOL ! EVERYTHING TODAY HAS BEEN DONE BEFOE !
tklsmooth 6 months ago
@epics7 Arvydas Sabonis was the most versatile 7 footer.
waylong32 5 months ago
@waylong32 And if Arvydas Sabonis was so "Versatile", answer me this. How many Rings does Sabonis have? Always a pleasure seeing Shaq bitch slap that loser everytime in the Playoffs. And it was so funny seeing Sabonis crying on the Portland Bench that one time they played the Lakers in the Playoffs. Why did he cry? Because he knew that he was getting owned by "The Big Diesel", and he could do anything about it.
Jiltedin2007 2 months ago
@Jiltedin2007 Versatility has nothing to do with rings. Oscar Robertson was probably the most versatile player to ever play in the NBA and pretty sure he has only one ring so where's your argument? And no shit he got owned by Shaq but Shaq was also in his prime and Arvydas wasn't, he was old. Players get old, it's a fact of life. And Shaq was the most dominant player ever besides maybe Wilt and Jordan, still doesn't mean Arvydas wasn't versatile.
waylong32 2 months ago
@waylong32 In what way was Arvydas Sabonis versatile?

@Fernandocatan It was because of Magic Johnson's incredible performance in Game 6 of the 1980 Finals that won him the Playoff MVP.
Jiltedin2007 4 weeks ago
@Jiltedin2007
No doubt that Magic had an incredible performance in game 6 of the 1980 finals. But Kareem dominated the series, and without him The Sixers would have won the championship that year.
Fernandocatan 4 weeks ago
@Fernandocatan You are so right. Even though back in 1980, Kareem felt that the Playoff MVP Award was his. He's not crying Sour Grapes about it now 32 years later. Playoff MVPs are minor things to fight about, because when you play in the Playoffs, IT'S ALWAYS ABOUT THE RINGS!
Magic maybe is Just magic, but Kareem will always be "The Captain" of the Lakers.
Jiltedin2007 4 weeks ago
sky hook too good...if you're tall and you can do it it's more or less unstoppable but kareem is da only guy who ever can shoot em consistantly and from all angles

The best pure scorer, for sure. Did you know that he only made one three pointer in his entire 20 year career? Simply amazing. The others needed hundreds of threes just to get close to his record.
bakerandbaker1 1 year ago
@bakerandbaker1
