  • how much did it cost? i have the console and a lot of parts plus i work at west marine so i get a hefty discount, but how much was all the mechanical parts like steering cable, throttle etc.

  • @jamesgibbons52 throttle came with the engine. steering cable is prestretched nylon rope and i have no idea where it came from. a buddy of mine hooked that up. other than that, i used a coulple quarts each of topside paint in light blue, and white, as well as a few quarts of white topside primer, a quart of bottom antifouling paint, a quart of captains varnish, i bought a random orbital sander for like $30, bought a selection of different rollers (one-coat rollers are the best),

  • @jamesgibbons52 and there were a selection of screws and nuts and bolts, however many feet of rub rail, pop rivets, and i believe thats it. all together i wanna say it was somewhere around a few hundred

  • all west marine bought? im actually doin the same restoration now on a 1969 13' whaler with 25hp merc

  • @jamesgibbons52 yup everythings from west marine

  • that would be a lean 'pop' you need to adjust your carbs

  • @MovieMakerPro77 yeah i fiddled with it for a little while and smoothed it out

  • Adjust the carb so that it receives more gas.

  • @puckboy12345678 the coughing was just due to lack of back pressure

  • You and your Johnson!

  • @Henrylo2 its an amazing engine

  • The reason it keeps coughing is because the carburator is not getting enough gas. there should be a spot on the side of the carb where you can tune it to give it more or less gas. I would loosen the screw some to where the car will receive more gas. Thats how my 1992 Evinrude 25 hp motor is.

  • @baseball36111 i think it was just lack of back pressure. it idles great in the water.

  • how do you use the string and the steering wheel and make it like that? is it cheaper to do it that way?

  • @wailani321 back in the day that was the only way these things were steered. if you already have mechanical steering in your boat i do not at all reccomend converting it to this. I already had the pulley system in the boat and i just replaced some of the hardware and replaced the plastic coated steel cable with pre-stretched nylon rope.

  • paint looks professionally done, nice touch keeping the old pulley steering. The rough running is usually cause by a dirty carburetor. If that's not it, you may have to rebuild the fuel pump

  • well thanks a lot man. i was only 15 when i did that paint. took me the whole summer and then some. the carb was dirty in my cold start video but in this video the carb had been cleaned out. turns out the little piece of the head gasket that seperated the 2 cylinders had disintegrated so the cylinders were sharing compression. a fuel pump would only affect operation if it wasnt working and one cylinder was shut off because of overheating. but that sounds totally different

  • cool im 12 and i just bought a 13 ft boston whaler 1980 all original
