1) it was originally done by a religious group.

2) the vaselines took the song and changed it to jesus DOESNT want me for a sunbeam

3) Nirvana covered it and did it the vaselines way.

@246mitch Actually this is an original song by The Vaselines. In MTV Unplugged, Kurt Cobain says it's a rendition of an old Christian song although the original Christian song is "I'll be a sunbeam" and is more of a children's song. This song is like a parody of it.
