If you ask him anything about his religion he tells you to ask his 'church'. He said the Jew's ancient religion hasn't changed through the ages? Are they still offering animal sacrifices? Even if you think we shouldn't mix religion w/politics shouldn't we be aware that Romney's belief system stems from a modern day 'prophet' who has added to our own Bible his own inspired law? I think it's fair to know what's going on in our future leader's head.
'Freedom requires religion.' That's why the 1960's San Fransisco hippies, probably the most 'free' people in America at that time, were so religious. Give me a break with your religious BS.
this is horrible.. separation of church and state not only gives us freedom of religion but freedom from religion. people can have the morals and be free without any belief in God. the fact is religion likes to halt scientific progression and deny people rights.. you can claim your religion won't interfere with politics but if your religious its in every aspect of your life.
rrrrrrrrrr me heart'ys there be only 1 god, 1 believable religion ,that be the Flying Spaghetti Monster, may he touch ye with his noodly appendages and bring ye peace and meatballs,,,rrrrrrrrrr shiver me timbers,
that quote is sadly absolutely right religion is WRONG, God despises religion, having faith and developing a personal relationship with Jesus is the right way to live, i would never have faith in America, that just sounds retarded
God despises religion? Jesus is his son, and hes spent thousands of years trying to tell people of that religion. religion is having faith in christ. and faith was how america started. Jon adams said so.
God absolutely despises religion, it's something made by man, it's practices that can lead to worshiping an idol, if you read mathew, the pharisees (religious leaders) killed Jesus, they were jealous of his powerful faith and connection with God, and throughout all of mathew, mark, luke and john the religious leaders try and prove that Jesus is not the son of God, but Jesus knew exactly how they thought, religion destroys that relationship with god, that's why we have so many dead churches today
Self serving (of course), unnecessary speech, propped up by quoting our fore fathers, repeating historic events, stating the obvious, informing us that he visited Europe.
This could just have well have been a life sized cardboard cut-out of Romney with a tape playing.
For those of you that are mormons and want Mitt Romney to win... Mitt Romney is hardly mormon. When a mormon is baptized, they make a covenant with their god that they will use everything in their power to further the faith, putting it above all else. Romney states that he puts the constitution above god in his presidency. This is not following the faith. In addition, one of the big principles of mormonism is free agency. What about "Freedom requires religion!" advocates tolerance???
Romney didn't say that. He said that he will not enforce Mormonism onto America. He is doing his part in the gospel by attempting to stop this plague known as secularism, where religion is being kicked out of any public affair. There is a difference between religion being forced onto others and religion being a public(not private) affair.
But isn't saying secularism is a "plague", or just saying its flat out wrong (as Romney did), being intolerant? Certainly, anyone who has any knowledge of how the brain works knows that altruism (morality) is as basic a desire as food and sex. (The same part of the brain lights up on an ECG for all three of those). There is no correlation with secularism and immorality. The only thing religion is useful for is creating existential hope.
Obviously, your definition of freedom differs from those who feel in their mind that they are not bound by the chains or influences of the world around them, and that no matter what happens to them they will ultimately be lifted up to a place of true peace and tranquility. It is a nice feeling. If you chose not to beleive that, you are free to do so.
that i think is the most important point any candidate has made in this election and that is the true spirit of seperation of church and state which is so important today
Mormonism is not a cult, and the way Mormons get their funds is the people of the church who pay their tithing. are you evangellical christian or something
thank you... The fact that this guy is getting all these left wing communist pigs all stirred up gives me great hope. President Romney will be our next best after Reagan
I honestly can't believe all the false things that are being said of my church. Something new every day. Where DO you people get your facts? If you really want to know about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (by the way, did you notice the church is named after JESUS CHRIST?) Not Christian? Oh, yes we are! Anyway, ask a missionary. It's that simple.
As Romney said, ´So judge my faith not by how different the theology may be one point or another, but whether it has made me and my family and perhaps others in my faith better people´.
" To understand my faith, look at me and my home and how we live...(B)ut what my church teaches is evidence of what I have become and what my family has become. I am a better person than what I would have been".
These are the ways that people shoukd judge Mormons, not by rumors of our theology!
yes, they SHOULD be barred from the presidency because of their faith because it inevitably affects their decions and its dangerous. we need an atheist!!
Mitt, Huckabee does not have what it takes to you what he REALLY thinks of Mormonism. It would cause a spiritual warfare in our own country. The God of the Bible is not the same as one of the Mormon gods. The Latter Day Saints use the name of Jesus Christ, but Mormon beliefs are VERY far from Huckabee's Christian beliefs. Can either of these Republican Bigots be true followers of Jesus Christ if they openly lie about their supposed faith?
Republican presidential candidate Tom Tancredo announced Thursday that he is dropping out of the race, and that he will endorse rival Mitt Romney for the GOP nomination.
hoover. though it should be stated that adams was hardly a popular president, best known for the Sedition Acts(jailed people for critism of the government). Anyway quoting Adams on religion is a little bizarre considering that he was a Unitarian. According to at least one biographer, he didn't have deistic inclinations personally though he used deistic language in speeches.
Anyway, when the founding fathers spoke about god, they generally meant it in a deistic vague sense, they were not talking about Yahweh/Jehovah/Elohim
ladies ask mitt romeny if he believes that his prophet joseph smith was right in taking 30+ wives a couple as young as 14?? ladies do you think those young girls felt abused? and this is a man that romney sees as a prophet?
What the crap does this have to do with anything even if it were true, which it isn't?
Please leave with your bigotry or I'll start editing out your hateful comments. People are quite capable of finding info on mormonism on their own. Watch this video again, it may be possible you'll learn something.

@EscapeNewJersey -- What did Christians think of Romney issuing 378 marriage licenses to same-sex couples in 2004-06? More than any other action by Romney, these special licenses demonstrated where his heart was on the same-sex marriage issue since they were purely discretionary. There was no mandate forcing Romney to issue such licenses. This calls into question his authenticity as an alleged social conservative candidate.
430 'elohiym el-o-heem' plural of 433; gods in the ordinary sense; but specifically used (in the plural thus, especially with the article) of the supreme God; occasionally applied by way of deference to magistrates; and sometimes as a superlative:--angels, X exceeding, God (gods)(-dess, -ly), X (very) great, judges, X mighty.
No, Mormons stopped polygamy over a hundred years ago. There is a break off of the religion that still practices, but it is no longer taught by the leadres.
Momons say, "We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may."
Mormons donate more to charity per captia than ANY other religion. They live longer than population average. They acheive higher level of education than national average. They don't drink, smoke, or swear. They are also usually the first to arrive at the scene of a natural disaster to aid those in need. Many serve for two years volunteering in orphanages, hospitals, schools. Or working with other Christian humanitarian aid organizations.
So you would vote for an agnostic? An atheist? A Satanist? Candidates personal beliefs do matter. I'd happily vote for an atheist, but even though I don't believe in Gods or demons, I'd have reservations about a Satanist. Would you? what sort of satanist? this sounds silly but there's a big difference between LeVay satanism and a theistic worship of satan. LeVay satanism is basically 'dark' objectivism (not that i'd vote for an objectivist).
I must admit I'm not familiar with the various sects of Satanism (as logically there must be, like the various sects of christianity). The point to srgriffith though, was that belief systems do play a part in our voting choices. Romney's beliefs (especially concerning evolution) would disqualify him as a viable candidate, to me at least.
:P he only addresses abrahamic faiths. he doesn't address polytheistic, non-deistic, or non-religious people. neither morality nor freedom require faith.
religion IS a private affair, when did this change?? the bible advoactes provate faith.
nativity scenes and menorahs are welcome, so long as other groups can display there TOO.
It's people like you who uphold the myth of separation of church and state. Religion is NOT a private affair. And while some may argue freedom doesn't require faith, I can tell you without a doubt morals require some religious background. Otherwise, they are nice things you can do to others, but you can live to make yourself better off.
Are you telling me that the only reason why you do good things, or why anyone else does good things, is because your/their god tells you/them to? Do you really not murder someone you are angry at simply because god tells you not to? Or do you have an altruistic feeling that compels you not to? Certainly, I hope the latter. THAT, my friend, is the brains' built in altruistic reaction. It is where empathy comes from, the basis for all morality.
I am athiest, and the reason why I don't run around killing is because I cannot imagine imposing such a horrible thing on another human being. It is called empathy. Altruism. Proven to be in the same basic brain function category as hunger and sex drives.
Hey mindless. I am a baptist. I thought his speech on religion was very well done and no other candidate except maybe obama could have pulled that off in such an eloquent manner. You shouldn't trust that brain research you are basing your belief on. The brain is the least understood organ in the human body. It seems from the beginning science has changed more than religion.
... science is SUPPOSED to change. science advances by throwing out previous theories when there is new and compelling evidence that the proposed model didn't work. models/theories/laws are ways to explain to ourselves what it was that was observed, and a given paradigm lasts as long as it is able to explain the observations.
The brain is not completely unknowable, so don't throw out the baby(what we know) with the bathwater(what we don't). You can't ignore all of neuroscience and psychology.
point of fact religion does change, early christianity isn't like modern christianity, or to use a more recent example the southern baptists at one time ordained women and now they don't.
WOW! This is why I'm voting for Mitt. He isn't afraid to let his religion be known and will stand by it, he shows tolerance for other religions, and says he will not allow it to hinder his decisions to the American people. I'm not mormon, but I AM for Romney!
@nbwilson56 -- As late as 2005 & 2006, Romney made jokes like this? "I believe marriage should be between a man and a woman … and a woman … and a woman," Romney quipped at the 2005 St. Patrick's Day breakfast in Boston. He made the same joke on Don Imus' 2006 St. Patrick's Day show. Romney's family tree has lots of polygamy. and his father was born in Mexico. He's currently trying to convince the Tea Party he's a good Christian who will reduce the debt.
Yeah.. the Fox News logo is there in the corner. Thanks so much for pointing that out. Now I know to cover my ears and go La-La-La-La so as not to be indoctrinated.
Sheesh you're a nut. I had thought Bernine Goldberg was joking when he spoke about "Fox News Derangement Syndrome" but now I'm starting to wonder...
If you ask him anything about his religion he tells you to ask his 'church'. He said the Jew's ancient religion hasn't changed through the ages? Are they still offering animal sacrifices? Even if you think we shouldn't mix religion w/politics shouldn't we be aware that Romney's belief system stems from a modern day 'prophet' who has added to our own Bible his own inspired law? ... science is SUPPOSED to change. science advances by throwing out previous theories when there is new and compelling evidence that the proposed model didn't work. models/theories/laws are ways to explain to ourselves what it was that was observed, and a given paradigm lasts as long as it is able to explain the observations.

Romney did a good job. I Don't care that he's Mormon. I trust he will make sound decisions.

Freedom requires which religion? When the Hindu cleric offered the prayer in the Senate, all the fools disappeared. So much for freedom of religion.

Yeah.. the Fox News logo is there in the corner.
