    Political power will have to grow out of the barrel of a gun if God is left out of the equation.

    The founding fathers had God as the corner stone of the Constitution for the very good reason the only other Reason to justify things would be "Might is Right".

    Democracy is about manifesting the Sovereignty of the People. But People Power is not self justifying. Without quoting God, at the end of the day, you hold your ground by sound of gunfire.

  • Watch the video again. THIS MAN said the Ron Paul supporters said he took on oath to God. I've never heard a Ron Paul supporter say this. I've only heard them say they took an oath to withhold the constitution. Purposely keeping religion and politics seperate. So why did THIS MAN (Ed) suggest this?

  • I'm a bit confused on what Ed started with. He stated that the Ron Paul supporters say that politicians take an oath to "GOD". Now I've been a Ron Paul supported for about 1 year now. Reading a lot of his workings. And I have never seen anything anywhere that any politician should base there job based on any sort of religion. They took an oath to uphold the "CONSTITUTION", not "GOD". Since when did Ron Paul supporters think our Governement should be run based on the Bible?

    And the reason "THIS MAN" thinks that is the same reason Jefferson did. Anyone that believes in the principles spelled out in the Declaration of Independence likewise must believe in God. Without God, our rights come not from a higher power, but from the State, which is a scary thought.

  • Democracy is the problem, this is supposed to be a republic. Democracies are majority ruled and public opinion can be swayed by politically biased news outlets. They also traditionally turn to oligarchies and end in anarchism. Such is the way of revolution.

    There's this part where he says: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."

    Yep, there it is, Jefferson saying God gives people their rights.

  • I read this in a different way than you I guess. I also read this:

    "When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the SEPERATE and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation"

  • Simple. You read ALL of it, and try to take it ALL in context the way HE MEANT it to be read. NOT the way YOU WANT it to be read.

    The way I want it to be read: "All men are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights." Strangely enough, these are his exact words.

    The way you want it to be read: "I don't think God has any place in the public square. When I said that stuff about man being endowed by his creator, I was totally joking around. What I mean to say is that our rights come from government, not from God, just like the Europeans believe."

  • But I completely understand. Fanatical Christians HAVE to throw God in EVERYTHING. Jefferson was one of the biggest supporters for the seperation of religion and state. Though you just HAVE to show he's a radical Christion basing the Declaraion on God. Please, keep going. It won't be long before you people turn the rest of the Christians against religion.   • Even if you don't believe that we have God given rights, it's better to assume we were given inalienable rights from a higher power than the government. Otherwise, governments giveth and government taketh. I would much rather have individual rights that the government cannot touch b/c it assumes a higher authority than them gave it. If the government assumes power to take your freewill, it also assumes it is your god.

  • What does God given rights have to do with politics though. Nothin in the constitution violates God given rights. And if the constitution is adhered to, then this wouldn't even be an issue.

  • I grew up a Christian. But I'm gonna be honest with you guys. I can't tell a difference between most of today's Christians and islamists. Both want to force there principals on the rest of the world. I am extremely saddened when I feel our world would be better of with neither. I love the religous concept and still believe in a God. But I have a hard time believing any God would support such radical measure you people pursue.

  • Well, I think when God is used in this political context, it's meant to represent something that is "absolute." That is, the idea behind it isn't to promote any particular religion, but to emphasize the fact that the rights can not be abridged or reinterpreted by no politician, lawyers, etc.

    No, Paul does not believe in anything absolute, but he frequently makes references to "God" to describe things that are off-limit (to political meddling) and beyond our (human) understanding.

  • I do think this will eventially end one day though. I do believe in a God. But I d not believe he wrote in books for little bitty humans on this littly itty bitty planet in our universe. If GOD really wrote a book, we would ALL know it and would ALL be learning from the SAME book. The Bible in my opinion is a great BOOK. Great history and a lot of GREAT sayings. But I do not believe he had any input on the book itself.

    Over 2 years ago I started supporting Ron Paul with grass root support, and money. In 64 years, Ron Paul is the only politician I have ever donated money to, because I cherish the true and Ron Paul is the only politician that I know of that is truthful. He has NEVER voted for a tax increase.

  • Whatever the case is, we need to get our act together very quickly. The EU is near ratifying a treaty that will create the office "President of the European Union" (This was on CNN Fareed Zakaria). The leading candidate is Tony Blair. The countries of the EU combined have a higher GDP than the US, as well as a larger military and gold reserve. While the US and EU usually see eye to eye, it cannot be denied that the economic influence of this entity will rival the United States.
