The wastegate doesn't "dump the rest of the boost pressure away from the turbo" but redirects the exhaust past the turbo. Boost is on compressor side not the turbine side. Not trying to be an ass but correcting a little mistake. Other than that you have a pretty nice DSM.

you cant just not have a wastegate, by open dump wastegate, it means instead of the wastegate exhaust going back into the exhaust (downpipe). The waste gate hole where exhaust flows after full boost is achieved goes out a 2" pipe straight to the ground and causes that really loud exhaust tone at :03 seconds. It helps decrease boost creep and keep you so you dont overboost and run lean.

My dsm also has a divorced wastegate and it sounds exactly the same at full boost. It is not detonation. The car is tuned with dsmlink and does not get over 2 degrees of retard, which only happens occassionally.
at idle the car should be trying to stay at 14.8. If you are doing a pull the ecu goes into open loop mode and if you are boosted you shouldn't really be getting much over 11. The higher you go over about 10.5 the more risk you have of throwing a rod if you get a misfire. When you are cruising in closed loop mode, your AFR should also hover around 14.8.

A divorced wastegate does not connect back into the main exhaust line. It dumps a few feet down into the bottom of the engine bay. As you can imagine, non muffled exhaust out of a short pipe a few feet from your engine is very loud.

probable a boost leak, chek all of your hose connections, i had the same problem, of course there are other things, but that one is the most simple to pinpoint, go to dsmtunersdotcom n search your problem

Dude you need to get the NGKBPR7ES, they are one step colder than the factory recommended BPR6ES's. If you plan to run more than 25psi boost and have all the supporting modifications you will need BPR8ES's. They are all made by NGK and available at most auto part stores. Seriously man, you don't need any other type of spark plug. Also, set your gap at .026-.024 Good luck

If you look at the engine bay of a GS-T or a GSX (4G63) and compare it to the engine bay of an RS or GS (420A) the 420A motor is flipped 180*. So I was asking if the 4G64 was flipped around like the 420A motor.

it sounds like my 98gst at 14.5psi, and looks to pull about the same too. it might have been more, if it's more than that, its not much more. and no I did not get my boost level from my stock gauge.
I have a 98 fwd turbo eclipse and no there was not a lsd in mine stock. I blew that tranny up and ordered one from japan that supposedly had 40k mi and it has a lsd, it whines and the car acts like a totally different car on the bends and out of the hole. not sure if the lsd in the tranny from japan is aftermarket or not. I cant complain. it will also do 80mph before the stock redline in second gear. the stock one wouldnt do 75mph by redline. makes for a kick ass topend.
by open wastegate he means that the wastegate exhaust air dumps out of a seperate pipe rather than going into the exhaust piping. it's usually called "o2 dump" since the dump pipe is part of the o2 housing. the disadvantages are: once your wastegate is open (when you're at full boost) you can hear that air being dumped and you're blowing hot air all over your engine, along with carbon (black soot). the advantage is it sometimes helps boost creep. it's safe, but not a good mod generally speaking.
robicool - All AWD models are turbos. You can get FWD turbos as well. They are the same power. So the AWD (GSX) are always the turbo but no more power than the turbo FWD (GST). Hope that helps.

by open wastegate he means that the wastegate exhaust air dumps out of a seperate pipe rather than going into the exhaust piping. it's usually called "o2 dump" since the dump pipe is part of the o2 housing. the disadvantages are: once your wastegate is open (when you're at full boost) you can hear that air being dumped and you're blowing hot air all over your engine, along with carbon (black soot). the advantage is it sometimes helps boost creep. it's safe, but not a good mod generally speaking.

robicool - All AWD models are turbos. You can get FWD turbos as well. They are the same power. So the AWD (GSX) are always the turbo but no more power than the turbo FWD (GST). Hope that helps.
