Too bad...The real Paul McCartney would've nailed this version...good try by Faul though.....listen to the album version.....clearly two different tones of voice....
@mickeyelsalsero thats because he is playing it live. when ya sing in the studio, its double tracked, maybe some echo on it etc. im used to it. my singer sounds different live. Hes just singing it differently than he originally done it
I remember the NY Post stating "The Beatles Back Together" before this concert. It was a big rumor at the time. That of course didn't happen but we got some great songs from McCartney!
@Burco1 It almost happened. In the Summer of 1979, the UN asked the Beatles to reunite for a concert to raise money for the Kampuchean refugees. They each agreed at first, but George and later John changed their minds - they were afraid it would start "Beatlemania II" which they wanted no part of. So Paul organized this series of concerts in London instead, featuring Wings, The Pretenders, The Who and other British rockers to raise money for the "boat people".
the venue is the Hammersmith Apollo in West London. He's appearing there on Saturday 18th December 2010.His first appearance back at this venue, since the above concert
After a robust start Paul's voice begins to faulter at about the 1:12 point. He rallies behind the falsetto high points but can only grunt out the down scale as he approaches the chorus. Must be tough reality. Growing old. McCartney had an amazing voice as a young man. Despite Lennon's dismissive attitude toward's McCartney's vocals, Paul had amazing range and tailored it to fit numerous styles. The original features a flawless vocal as Paul hits numerous ascending and descending notes.
@SOLISDEUS Lennon never had a dismissive attitude toward McCartney's vocals. Give me some quotes about that. Also I don't see any discernible deterioration after 1:12 at all. The "say we'll be together every day ey" he hits the note he was supposed to hit though he sings it slower than he should and slower than the recording. But that is very minor. He hits the really difficult high notes and sustains them like they were nothing. I think the "tough growing old" idea is overstated here.
@thinchris paul mccartney still alive!!!..and please you have to listen to his new work .. Framed is a fusion of electronic music with classical music and experimental progressive dyes .. is a masterpiece.. the fireman "electric arguments"!!!
@thinchris no... some people think he's dead 'cause, some idiots say that.. but he is alive.. he's living his great and creative life..check his album electric arguments.. please and an others last albums like memory almost full, chaos and creation in the backyard, and his classic album ecce cor meum
@thinchris he's 68 years old and still doing great beautiful music.. he's mozart, classic music of XX century, he's the beatles, he's the genius, he's SIR PAUL MCCARTNEY...
@beatlesfan1971 suring the 1979 tour the lineup was: Wings' lineup for the tour was Paul and Linda McCartney, Denny Laine (lead guitar/so-songwriter with Paul), Laurence Juber, and Steve Holly (drums).
@poepper Paul got arreseted in Japan for carrying drugs, which Paul said he in a way just made happen because he was tired of the band since the band was arguing and being jealous nad just not getting along, then finally Denny Laine left after arguing with Paul a few times...but Paul formed a new "wings" band which he made a ocmeback with and hten he has another new Wings band and works with other famous musicians on his own too---such as Paul's new work as "the Fireman"
Hi... I looked at your page and couldn't see where to contact, and I don't really do the YouTube Fan thing, but I wanted to answer this.
It's not Geoff Britton, and looks like a younger Joe English ( from the Jimi Hendrix Experience briefly), but the correct analysis must be that it is STEVE HOLLEY, who joined Wings in the late 1970's and added quite a kick to the retinue, didn't he ?
@rocnrollurisback Wings' lineup for the 1979 tour was Paul and Linda McCartney, Denny Laine (lead guitar/ co-songwriter), Laurence Juber, and Steve Holly (DRUMS).
@rocnrollurisback Wings' lineup for the 1979 tour was Paul and Linda McCartney, Denny Laine (lead guitar/ co-songwriter), Laurence Juber, and Steve Holly (DRUMS).
This song confirms Paul as one of the greatest if not the greatest songwriter ever. From Revolver in 1966 - still sounds like something that could have been released today. Revolver distanced The Beatles from their peers in th '60s.
@stimpp i dont think a songwriter should be judged by how their song sounds in newer generations of listeners. for example someone of todays generation would disclaim mozart or beethoven of being incredible composers and yet they are intrinsically good composers. if they are not viewed by the majority of our generation as being great composers then does that make them bad composers, would that make gaga or one of the newest crazes better composers?
@JotheBytle When they recorded the Revolver album I think Paul was using the Rickenbacker bass in the studio and not the Hofner. Not completely sure though?
@marvsmooth Probably true. Paul put aside the Hofner around this time because he thought the Rickebacker sounded better. He brought the Hofner back for the Get Back/Let It Be filming in early 1969 then put it aside again until Elvis Costello suggested he use it in the video for My Brave Face. Paul has been using an updated version of the original Hofner bass ever since.
@crapple009 No, actully, I have a couple books on Paul, and there is one with all the different guitar brands. And I went to the hofner page and saw nothing of Paul McCartney, so I turned the page and saw a picture of him, but that page was about HOHNER, and it said something about Paul McCartney owning a hohner harmonica, and then a caption on the picture said, "Paul McCartney with his Hohner bass"
@Disco32er That was definitely a typo (unsurprisingly and logically so, as the two brands only differ by only one consonant) . McCartney's bass was/ is a German-made Hofner. It's been very, very much documented. Check out Beatles gear by Andy Babiuk, the bible of all the instruments used by the Beatles. Hohner harmonicas, yes (Lennon played one). Hohner basses, no. Btw, I own five Hofners.
@ecapdeville "Did I born yesterday?" Pretty bad grammar JS, and no, I have a book of all the guitar brands and the people who played them, and there is a page about HOFNERS and it has all the basic information and shit, and on the NEXT page, is a brand called HOHNER, and it has an enlarged photograph of Paul McCartney, and in the caption it read, "Paul McCartney playing his Hohner bass." No joke bro, thats what it says. I dont know, and I really dont care, im JUST SAYING.
@Disco32er He did play a Hofner as well.. I have a book about Paul McCartney and it was a Hofner.. but all artists have many guitars so Yeah he played a hohner as well... Not fighting, just thought I'd help contribute, so please don't take it as an offensive comment or nothing, not trying to do anything like that, just spreading some facts:)
