  • I actually have one of these snakes as a pet. Murray Darling Carpet Python, The most chilled out species there is.. It got hurt in the fight as you can see its skin ripped under its chin.. But that happens in Nature.. Mine gets frozen (but thawed) food grade mice so that will never happen :P

  • And that's why I'm getting a python. :P

  • DISGUSTING.....WHY ARE PEOPLE SO AMUSED BY THE HORROR OF NATURE? WE LOVE ANIMALS AND HATE THIS PART OF NATURE...BUT WE DON'T INTERFERE.

  • @mugs689 pussy

  • @mugs689 "HORROR" of nature doesn't make sense. In nature, everything is natural. We, as humans, have the opinion that some things are horrible while others are great. In reality, humans alone inflict horror, not nature.

  • Lotsa ants on your roof, bro. Time to call Orkin.

  • LOL a wild snake eating a wild animal and this vid gets bitching

asking why the guy didn't save it.... SAD

  • Awesome capture!

  • There was this story about this guy who I used to know, he had a python snake as a pet and he just used to let it roam free in the house even when he slept. And one night he woke up and his snake was laying in a dead straight line across his bed next to him and he thought it was dead. He went to the vets the next day to check on the snake and the Vets told him, the snake was laying next to you cause it was measuring how big you were cause that's what they do before they eat!

  • @Trenasist That's wholly untrue. ;-) Your friend was having fun with you.

  • Love pythons and i love snake snakes, and possums in snakes is just amazing! Its like loving mint and loving chocolate,,suddenly you have a chocolate mint and couldnt be happier!

  • ive always wonderd were does the possum or what ever a snake eats go after they eat it do they shit it out ??

  • lol yep all snakes shit it out as you put it :)

  • yes; wikipedia says....."Didelphimorphia ... order of common opossums of the Western Hemisphere" and "that term (possum) is also applied to Australian fauna of the suborder Phalangeriformes (order Diprotodontia)."

The first part states that "oppossum" is (in addition to, probably less correctly "possum") used for the creatures in order Didelphimorphia.

The second part states that the Aus critters (order Diprotodontia; suborder: Phalangeriformes) are called "_possums_"

    Read the wiki article agn.

  • They are both marsupials.

I (and lots of Aussies) have possums fighting on, in and around my roof all the time. I see or hear them pretty much every day. Misrepresented facts are one thing, but when correctly asserted ones are jumped on, especially with a patronising or abusive attitude, it makes my bile rise.

the first part of my reply didn't post properly. i'll type that next.

  • Possum and Oppossum are common names, though I agree with you that there can be consensus on a "proper" common name.

In North America that seems to be "oppossum". The _different_ animals we have here in Australia are called possums. We don't call them oppossums and neither does anybody else (with the exception of some Americans, albeit incorrectly).

  • and there is no such thing as a "koala bear".

no offense, but do you realise how much of an obnoxious american people sound like when they say that- especially when they're trying to inform others.

  • its good to have pythons around if your living in/near bush areas.... so the venomous ones are less tempted to venture into your house when the pythons eat all the vermin.

  • are those wild or do they not have pythons in austrailia?

  • We have pythons in Australia. Yesterday I removed a dead one from my roof, like the one in the video. On our property we have a combination of bush and rain forest, The pythons sometime come in to the house to escape the cold and look for mice etc. They usually dont bother you although i have been bitten a few times picking them up!

The Black and brown snakes, not to mention the tiger and typan, are deadly poisonous and we need to be careful with them.

  • @paulalister Generally speaking the poisonous ones are small, like 2 or 3 foot max.. But still u get bitten by something this size n it will tear your hand open and can give you an infection

  • @paulalister hey, paul crazy coincidence, but i work with your son aj, he told me about the video, crazy stuff

  • @basgaz1 dude we have more species of python than any other nation lol

  • ur sick!

  • Comment removed

  • WTF do u live in a jungle or rainforest!? thats amazing to have these animals right in your backyard!

  • No, it's quite common in Florida. Pythons are normally freed once the owners can no longer handle them.

  • Which is illegal. If you can't take care of your own snake then sell it or give it away. It upsets the natural balance of our local ecosystems when owners release their pythons and it is that kind of behavior that is causing the government to try to make the buying, selling, and breeding of exotic pets (pythons, parrots, gerbils etc.) illegal.

  • I know that LOL and I'm sure the Florida State Government knows as well, and yet they don't care about it.

  • this is very nice because i have recently captured 2 possums and are raising them... they like cat/dog food

  • its a koala stupid people

  • the funny thing is you are the stupid one.

  • Snakes are gross.

  • what kind of possum is that it look like a koala bear

  • Please don't use "Fag" as an insult. Way too many senseless murders have occurred with people throwing that term around and using it derogatorily. God bless

  • you're a bastard filmin' that and i wish it comes in your house to se what NATURE does with all the bastards sayin' that it's nature

  • fuck u man...dont be fag ALESSIO

  • that IS nature. it was outdoors and it caught a prey without any help. you idiots keep denying it but u know your comments are senseless. animals kill to eat and we film it to piss u off. and it works wonders.

  • the should have tried to help it you fuckin' moron and if it was u in the place of that poor possum i wouldn't give a fuck bout it,believe me,i would just say "well another moron died, well fewer morons now" believe it and get over with it

  • god your such a fucking pansy asshole. first u dumbasses complain about animal cruelty and now your complaining about nature. do u wanna try and take food from a snake? why would that guy risk hurting himself just to fulfill your idiotic request? and do u think your strong enough to pry a dead possum from a coiled snake? bear in mind that your comment was extremely retarded and if u ask me, your the real moron here.

  • wow u are one hell of an idiot. how do u forget wat u typed? and wat was he supposed to do about. if u were there, u would have shitted yourself seeing that. your just a pussy with a big useless mouth. if he hadnt filmed it, u wouldnt even know about it so stfu.

  • at least im not a douchebag who cant come up with a good diss. thats like your 5th time saying moron right? pretty ironic when a moron calls someone else a moron.

  • Alessio can you be anymore of a stupid fuck PETA fag? There is absolutely NO WAY you are gonna get ANYTHING away from a snake once it's coiled around it....

  • If u don't like it so much then go watch something else... after all you must have enjoyed because u argued so much about it to deatail when it is just a simple hobby, the youtube version of nation geographic

  • ☆_☆

  • Fantastic ,nice video that really show what'

    really going on in nature.

  • you do gooder fucks.have u ever been into an abatoir?the snake would think that humans are the sick fucks.without the food chain the planet would be over run with rotting corpes's.you fucking limp wristed oxygen thieves.

  • Possum... it's wuts fer dinner.

  • It nature get over it if you didnt want to see a possum get killedc you shouldnt have clicked on the tab

  • Snakes have to eat to. Killing it is just as bad as watching it kill the possum.

  • @XavierAXB I Agree, People eat cows, Snakes eat mice.. You buy frozen food grade mice from the pet store as you would buy your frozen porterhouse from the supermarket ;)

  • its true. You should be killing that snake of eating that big little tihngy.

  • You're a fuckwit. Why intervene. Predator prey relationships are essential in natural ecosystems. Fuckwits like youare why rabbits and foxes are in plague proportions in australia, why feral horses destroy our landscaps and vegetative systems.

    Please kill yourself

  • Its LIFe GET THE FUCK OVER IT

    SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST

DO YOU THINK THE SNAKE EATS VEGETABLES

    WHAT THE HELL

  • dumbass

  • The OPOSSUM was already dead you stupid bitch ass twat

  • its a "possum"- p.o.s.s.u.m.

    some of them carry weapons

  • drpuki you are so wrong....check out what wickipedia says....."Didelphimorphia (pronounced /daɪˌdɛlfɨˈmɔrfi.ə/) is the order of common opossums of the Western Hemisphere. They are commonly also called possums, though that term is also applied to Australian fauna of the suborder Phalangeriformes." See what I'm saying? The correct term is OPOSSUMS but people call them POSSUM for short. Don't try to correct when you don't know the facts. Makes you look like a moron

  • @StarbuckfsdNo such thing in Australia

  • good video

  • I agree that snake eating small mammals is nature , but its not nature when people put them both in a container so the mammal has no chance of escape

  • I agree but one thing I think does contribute to the snake when live food is fed, it helps the snake mentally thinking hes hunting prey, so as a snake owner i want the snake to benefit not the live mammal, but if i was a rat or mouse lover i could understand.

  • Snakes do hot have any "mental thinking" processes. I have talked to a couple of reptile experts over the years and they categorically state that reptiles only posess lower brain functions and are basically instinctive killing, eating machines. They do not have the kind of simple problem solving ability and emotional reactions that many mammals have. You are not making your snake feel better about its life by feeding it live rodents. If the snake will not eat dead prey then that is another thing

  • Also on that note, many people with reptile pets seem to think that the snake, iguana, whatever, "likes" them. Any competent herpatologist will tell you that your reptile pet may associate you with food and may get used to handling, but they do not form emotional attatchments to their owners, and people who think otherwise are just deluding themselves.

  • Yes it is. Some snakes are truly fussy, and have a significant reduction in feeding response if the prey item is frozen/thawed.

You could brain the animal, but does that jsut cause the same amount of ahrm/suffereing?

Life is cruel and harsh, there is no need to sugarcoat it.

  • @Graizer101 pussy

  • I think it's valiant of the second possum risking it's life to try to save it's mate. Few animals in nature will do that.

  • thats a big ass possum.

    nice music too

  • why? why not save the posum and gut the snake? why wait for the snake to kill it?

  • damn, ship that snake to where i live, i have all sorts of opossums and raccoons it can have

  • So beautiful.

I think carpets must be able to take quite a beating,a few months ago a friend and I were driving along the road and hit one :( (not on purpose of course) I made her spin around to make sure it was ok and it was slithiring down the road!

    cool vid.

  • Wow that's an awesome video of nature at it's best. It's so different to watching my own snakes eat every week as it's all natural. That also looks like a very old snake but none the less a gorgeous Coastal Python. What happens is the snake can digest almost all of the possum except for the fur usually, although sometimes little extra bits don't get digested. This will take a while for the snake to digest and probably won't eat for a few months afterwards. I saw this in our local newspaper Paul

  • Glad you enjoyed it!

    paul

  • I'm not very familiar with snakes. Can someone reply to me an tell me what happens to the big bones on some of these prey animals. Do the get full digested or regurgitated afterwards?Do they just poop them out?Thanx.

  • As I understand it, the python digests everything, including the bones of the animal! Very strong acid in their stomach.

    paul Alister

  • Dang!!!Thanx for the info. How long would it take to digest this big of a prey "Possum"? How log before they have to eat again?

  • It took one hour and 20 minutes to eat the possum. I dont t think it would eat for at least another week. As for digesting it, I would guess days!

    paul

  • depends on the size of the snake.if its big enough to eat a full grown pig it might not eat for up to 6 months or more.after a few weeks once the snake shits most of it out its able to eat if the food is available

  • yes they digest it all only thing that sometimes dosnt get digested is bits of hairs bones get fully digested

  • @8av8today Hey Mate, They digest most of it, most of the time there poo comes out like a big bird poo. however when you keep them in captivity you feed them once a week and they build up a faster metabolism and their poo can come out furry with a bit of bone in it..

I dont feed mine live food, its thawed out mice as the snake wins most of the time but still has to fight for it and gets injured a lot, plus its cruel..

Extremely placid snake, could even hold a wild after 2 days from feed

  • Hi, I agree. But, how it happened is that me and the kids were getting ready for school and heard a huge commotion on the roof. There was the python rearing up against the second possum, and the possum screetching and slashing with its claws at the python. The second python was already caught up in the python's coils. We could hardly believe what was going on! We thought they had all killed each other! (paul's wife)

  • And it was not until after the second possum had left and the snake began to eat the first possum, that I decided to go and get my camera. It was too exciting to leave when they were fighting! My wife filmed the first big of the video with her camera.

    Paul

  • It sucks that there is no video from the fight :(

  • insane reel of photos!!! Great job. Oh wow and some video1!!
