@081588101 I think you are very right.. After about 9500 it does seem to drop off in power very dramatically. They should have tuned it for a 9000rpm redline, it would have even more balls in the rest of the powerband.
anyone know how much this cost i want to buy one i need it for my build i already separated my head from the block im scared to trash this other block n head from all the compresion n high rev
spoons shit is sweet but super expensive for the gain, im workin on a b20v setup and all itll take is good components and balancing to achieve 10,000 rpm with a 2.0, just wanted to feel special:)
@2:57 it sounds like a crotch rocket on the highway. I never liked Honda sounds but I have a lot of respect for an engine that revs about 4K higher than stock
@b0ss6769 yeah just saw on the jap subs that its 8400. still that's freaking crazy for stock. even the new Si civics come with lower. wish they would bring that back
i know someone who i think watched a little too much of the fast and furious, and swapped his old motor out for a brand new spoon and blew it up "threw a rod through the block i dont remember exactly" but it was trashed. only had it within a month or so. mabey less, i wanna say 2 weeks, and i know those are kinda hard to kill.
doesn't matter how strong your parts are, an engine always has a max power limited to its displacement and rev capability for NA.. that's the main challenge for NA engines, making it rev higher for more power or bore it out.. love the response and sound of NA engines.. formula atlantic 4age is a heavily modified well financed 1600cc engine that produces around 250hp at the flywheel and revs more than 10Krpm, I guess that's about it for 1.6 NA..
i have one of these spoon block girdel and oil sump best money i eva spent a itb b16a setup making 265whp doing clean 11's 400m on radials but as for the spark plug problem have got rid of conventional dizzy setup and gone to a wastespark setup and am pulling 10-11 revs easy with no prob
@amirchavez Well as long as they continue to have E and D class racing, i'm sure that spoon or mugen will continue to round out rough edges on their tiny machines... they are incredibly badass at high rpm's..F1 kinda feeling.
@bubbyj nope, but for a 1/4 of the price of all the american cars that do, most jdm cars will give them a run for their money. now dont get mad. its the truth. on top of that, the 2011 gtr set a lap time just 2 seconds slower than the viper acr, IN WET CONDITIONS. gtr=$100,000 > acr= $110,000
@bubbyj the nsx had some good lap time back in the day, but honda doesn't make cars built for speed, they make cars for enjoyment (which is FAR more important if you ask me).
if you want a fast car for a track, look to a Nissan gt, it pretty much destroys anything america can make and most of Europe.
@sausagenmuff Honda is not nissan. That was my point. I responded to a comment making fun of Chevy's (people choose to ignore the ZR-1 because it ruins the joke). Honda has long since left the sports car industry and is now making good, reliable vehicles. I never once insulted Honda, or any brand for that matter, I merely defended Chevy's ZR-1.
you know all it talk about how the car work not how the motor is function and how its build soo yeaaa. very impressive to understand i have to alot research and experiment
Well there are plenty of 10,000 rpm Ford 427 SOHC big blocks out there, and with probably a good 3X the rotating weight or more in that big block, this engine doesn't impress me at all. Also seen some go to 12,000 rpm, and those are street motors.
@playstationRLZ Yep, correct, 1964. Also made 657 bhp and 615 lb ft of torque right from the factory, and that's also worth mentioning. I don't think these things make even half that. A third of that is 219 hp, do they even make that much?
@sausagenmuff but you have to take into consideration what was said above, ford set the bar with that motor, i respect imports, when i was young i had an obsession with r33 skylines lol but if you have ever drivin' a v8 making 600+ there is nothing like it... especially the sound... there is no better sound than a smallblock chevy man... im working on an ls1 foxbody now and when im done i plan on finally getting some vids on this fucking website lol
@playstationRLZ well true, there is nothing wrong with displacement, american engines in general are just so tarnished from the past to me.my friend just bought a 02 Monty carlo SS 3.8L and its got the same 0-60 time as a honda 1.5L. like WTF! but yes I agree displacement can be fun.
@hajmorusit obviously a engine with twice the displacement is going to be torque-ier, but i'm showing how horribly slow American engines sometimes are. 3.8L monty carlo SS (yes the SS) 0-60 in 9 seconds.
@Abran7manX my car's virtually a civic though, it's not purpose built. 5.3 seconds for almost a 6L engine is pretty dam slow.a 4L bmw with do 4.9 for instance. a trans am is a cheap way to get straight line speed though I'll give it that.
@sausagenmuff You don't know as much as you think you do. Going fast is about compression, overall weight, and displacement. Just because a car might have an 8.1L engine its not running 2.1s 0-60. Never. A little 4cyl isn't running any where near 5s 0-60 unless its purposefully built factory to do it or you dump cash into it. Also, 0-60 is one of the worst gauges of a vehicles performance. It's either 1/4 or output.
@Abran7manX I don't understand, so your agreeing with me? yes ideally it breaks down to power to weight ratio and traction. if your referring to straight line speed. I'll be honest though I can't think of a worse car for racing than a trans am. it's factory numbers are a pitful 310HP for a massive 5.7L engine, it weights over three and a half thousand pounds. 0-60 factory numbers are 6.6 seconds. it might be faster than that. but still it's neither fast in a line or the twisties.
@sausagenmuff Once again, you seem to believe that displacement means speed. Thats my overall argument here, Displacement in no way means speed. A 7.4 liter 454cu. in. big block in a Chevelle runs high 12's in the quarter and about 6.1 seconds 0-60. My Trans Am runs that in the quarter but is lighter and with a 'massive' engine as you would put it. I'm simply stating that your wrong about big engines being the main component in going fast. Its much deeper.
@High4Times20 Its their own fault for taking them to the strip then. If you go to a drag strip you want straight line power, thats what the cars there are set up for. I could take a chevelle and make it go around laguna seca if I want, it is all about how you set up the car.
I disagree. People think these cars are slow because they are FWD and cannot compete at the track with the RWD American counter-parts. My Eclipse is making close to 400whp, however I can get taken out by cars making MUCH LESS power than my car due to the fact that the weight distribution during launch causes my front end (drive wheels) to get light.
No street cars were MEANT for drag racing, that's just what we do with them. You pick the platform that suits you best.
Looks like it can rev that high, but needs to be shifted at about 9500 max. It wasn't really going anywhere above 9500, but would start pulling again when he grabbed another gear.
@High4Times20 these cars were designed to sell, thats it, also with that said, that car falls dead on it's face at 9500, probly make 90hp up that high
@FORDGTFANATIC no they are fwd...he was being sarcastic. And ppl have done rwd civics, look at import tuner or super street a few months ago. There was an article in one of them about someone converting a civic hatch to rwd using the s2000 drivetrain.
@High4Times20 now you talking shit about muscle cars? Your right, these Japanese cars are build for handling. Muscle cars are made for torque. Theres a big difference.
Torque overpowers handling.
ps. drag racing is a balance between weight, power, and aerodynamics. It takes more precision engineering than these engines.
i love my honda civic its a 4 door saloon 5 speed manual with no other parts its clean as a whistle and ive pushed it towards a 45degree corner at 35-40mph and it corners perfectly i want to see a muscle car do that
Good approach to squeeze power from a compact na engine.
Must be nice to shift between 2nd and 3rd gear only, and keep the speed between 80 to 140km/h on those narrow hill side road with continous sharp bends...lol
Yawn... take two hyabusa 1.3L motors splice them together and you have a 420hp 2.6 liter V8. And nitrogen assisted valve springs and you get anouther 3000 rpm and you have a 14,000 rpm 525hp 2.6 liter.
@loadedlover12 you either send the motor or order a motor or build kit from spoon sports, their home office is in Japan but they have a company in america called type one that sells their engines and complete built cars here.
all thanks to the japanise for their intelligence in cars. making an awsome motor in the b and k series to handle rpms over 9000 and still make power. and also to not blow. unlike the american cars that cannot handle rpms over 6000. lol FOREVER HONDA ACURA AND TOYOTA.
@cheeseburger9418 dude american cars can rev more than 6,000 rpm. Corvette and focus for example. B and K series is awesome yes but they don't make much torque that moves the car off the line better, but they can make sweet horsepower at higher rpm.
Wants the point of spending all that money on the Engine of the car and only beaning slightly quicker building a B series is a waste of time imo because its either A not going to be quick enough to justify the cost or B It will have too much power and thats not want you want in a fwd only things worth doing to a Civic are B18C Good intake manifold exhaust good clutch good diff and a 4.9 fd and a map to get the best outta it. do that and if your aunt had balls shed be your uncle
@maciasx010x not all Americans. I'm an American and drag racing is ok, but not too interesting to me. I like watching cars go fast but my car will be built for balance, speed through the corners and taking a high amount of lateral g's. Many race cars are turbo charged, lag from a turbo only reveals itself at mostly lower rpms, while racing, even after slowing down for a turn, a good driver will keep rpms high by shifting to a lower gear.
Hate to be a hater, but that sounds nowhere near 10 grand. Sounds good, but click on the Judd powered BMW hill climber for a truer high rev experience. Hi !
Since when is a S2000 FWD? Not only it's RWD it is the car with the best HP/CC ratio, and probably one of the highest reving stock engines ever, although being a four pot. Like a Honda morocycle :)
Where would I be able to buy one of these?

it seems like the engine has no more power above 9500 rpm.
i think they also changed the gear ratios, thats why the revs dont drop as much as in the stock civic.
still a great engine of course!

Doesn't look like it's making much power after 9000 rpm.
2:42 ..... no wonder it broke within minutes of doing that.

I love my Civic coupe. Stock B16B swapped in, no Spoon for me, lol. I LOVE my car
miatageekscott 1 year ago
@High4Times20
XwP1ayawX 1 year ago
Looks like it can rev that high, but needs to be shifted at about 9500 max. It wasn't really going anywhere above 9500, but would start pulling again when he grabbed another gear.

@FORDGTFANATIC it's RWD -_-
xExRxIxCxKx 1 year ago
@xExRxIxCxKx ohh are they converted? thats cool they should do an awd civic!
FORDGTFANATIC 1 year ago
@FORDGTFANATIC no they are fwd...he was being sarcastic. And ppl have done rwd civics, look at import tuner or super street a few months ago. There was an article in one of them about someone converting a civic hatch to rwd using the s2000 drivetrain.
trumpetplyrmatt 1 year ago
@trumpetplyrmatt actually it was the s2000 engine and gearbox the complete rear sub frame is from a 240sx i believe.
bobbz16 1 year ago
@High4Times20 now you talking shit about muscle cars? Your right, these Japanese cars are build for handling. Muscle cars are made for torque. Theres a big difference.
Torque overpowers handling.
ps. drag racing is a balance between weight, power, and aerodynamics. It takes more precision engineering than these engines.
MrTokeit 1 year ago
@MrTokeit Torque overpowers handling on the strip.
The strip takes little skill and reaction time.
Compared to track driving.
Where handling keeps you on the track, and torque with inadequate handling kills you.

i love my honda civic its a 4 door saloon 5 speed manual with no other parts its clean as a whistle and ive pushed it towards a 45degree corner at 35-40mph and it corners perfectly i want to see a muscle car do that
TheRevolutionaryvoic 1 year ago
Good approach to squeeze power from a compact na engine.
Must be nice to shift between 2nd and 3rd gear only, and keep the speed between 80 to 140km/h on those narrow hill side road with continous sharp bends...lol
andrudeep 1 year ago
Yawn... take two hyabusa 1.3L motors splice them together and you have a 420hp 2.6 liter V8. And nitrogen assisted valve springs and you get anouther 3000 rpm and you have a 14,000 rpm 525hp 2.6 liter.

how do you make a civic or integra a spoon engine?????
loadedlover12 1 year ago
@loadedlover12 you either send the motor or order a motor or build kit from spoon sports, their home office is in Japan but they have a company in america called type one that sells their engines and complete built cars here.
johnnyo032003 10 months ago
all thanks to the japanise for their intelligence in cars. making an awsome motor in the b and k series to handle rpms over 9000 and still make power. and also to not blow. unlike the american cars that cannot handle rpms over 6000. lol FOREVER HONDA ACURA AND TOYOTA.
cheeseburger9418 1 year ago
@cheeseburger9418 dude american cars can rev more than 6,000 rpm. Corvette and focus for example. B and K series is awesome yes but they don't make much torque that moves the car off the line better, but they can make sweet horsepower at higher rpm.
deafhonda25 1 year ago
@deafhonda25 although i agree with u my main point was that these honda engines were made to handle high rpms. thanks for da info on those cars.
cheeseburger9418 1 year ago
@cheeseburger9418 no problem brah
deafhonda25 1 year ago
@deafhonda25 i love muscle cars too
cheeseburger9418 1 year ago
Wants the point of spending all that money on the Engine of the car and only beaning slightly quicker building a B series is a waste of time imo because its either A not going to be quick enough to justify the cost or B It will have too much power and thats not want you want in a fwd only things worth doing to a Civic are B18C Good intake manifold exhaust good clutch good diff and a 4.9 fd and a map to get the best outta it. do that and if your aunt had balls shed be your uncle
Mullie0407 1 year ago
@High4Times20
THATS CaUSE ALL americans cAre about is muscle and NOT precision like you saId these cars are built for track, not drag.
and like they said in the video, having non turbo plays a big part cause it doesnt give boost and the car stays more ssteady
maciasx010x 1 year ago
@maciasx010x not all Americans. I'm an American and drag racing is ok, but not too interesting to me. I like watching cars go fast but my car will be built for balance, speed through the corners and taking a high amount of lateral g's. Many race cars are turbo charged, lag from a turbo only reveals itself at mostly lower rpms, while racing, even after slowing down for a turn, a good driver will keep rpms high by shifting to a lower gear.

how do you get a higher red line besides lighter parts
weewoodeal 1 year ago
@weewoodeal You swap out your valve springs for ones with a higher spring rate, and strenthening the bottom end up with studs

@High4Times20
a rwd track car will always beat a fwd track car.
why? because the front wheels on a fwd have to do twice as much as the tires on a rwd car
Nosillla 1 year ago
@Nosillla Thats a negative it really depends on the Driver of the vehicle.

Since when is a S2000 FWD? Not only it's RWD it is the car with the best HP/CC ratio, and probably one of the highest reving stock engines ever, although being a four pot. Like a Honda morocycle :)
