I am all for the 2nd amendment and I myself have a pistol and a license to carry open or concealed here in GA, but I dont agree with bringing a weapon inside a church or any religious or holy ground. Why are they doing this. Its not like we are in the middle of in an invasion by the Chinese or Russia. Going to church is for worship and respect to God. Not to idolize your ambitions and to flaunt them.
For those that think it's ridiculous to carry a gun in church, tell that to that pastor in Illinois that got killed while conducting church services, that abortion doctor that was blown away at church ( George Tiller), etc.
Kudos to the pastor for not being scared of public opinion.
I used to live near this church (about 12 minutes away). I grew up in the Valley Station area and I agree with this Pastor. The more good guys out there carrying weapons, the better.
One last remark.. If you want crime to go DOWN in your city, get everyone you know to buy a gun, go to a safety class, apply for concealed handgun license, practise often, teach your kids about guns and gun safety, buy a gun safe, and all the CC gear you need like locking holsters, and CARRY IT EVERYWHERE YOU GO! Do not apply and then leave it at home. Then.. NO ONE is then a sheep / victim! Every place except bars and federal buildings should be off limits - fight for your right to carry!
P.S. Someone breaks into my house at 3 AM they are going to carry him out in a body bag. My gun is right next to my bed and I can get it on target in less than 1.5 seconds. Buy a gun, teach your kids safety, and go to the range to practise every week until you can get it out, on target with double and tripple taps in less than 3 seconds. THEN you AND your family will have the best chance to survive a hostile encounter. Idiots that buy guns and then dont practise are in error.
Ru a Pastor or salesman for gun companies. Your business model to bring people to church is cool. Do you have any other ideas to bring in people to your church? How about gay bashing, immigration etc.
@amitdahiya My pastor is a good person, and he would never bash anybody. I went to New Bethel all 10 years he was there, and he never once foul-mouthed anybody; he is respectful and accepting of everyone - and this is all coming from an Atheist girl, who doesn't even like church/christianity. He's just an all-around good guy and I'd hang with him any day! Don't judge people if you don't know'em ;)
semi-automatic assault types are not ok unless you belong to a nationally recognized militia.
And handguns in the home need an extra layer of protection like the filter on cigarette. A proximity device (in wallet, a ring or necklace, that has to be within exactly your fully stretched arm. If the bad guy finds the gun or steals it from you in a struggle, IT WON'T FIRE. Buying you precious time to get away
Mjmih you do not have a clue to what you are talking about. The reason cops do not wear these same devices in a hostile encounter is that they are a hinderance to getting the gun out of the holster and firing the gun quickly. The best weapon is one without almost any safeties like a S&W M&P with a split trigger safety ONLY.
As for the AR rifles you are talking about, you are also incorrect. The second ammendment is about the right to carry.. not the right to carry hunting rifles only.
"The reason cops do not wear these same devices in a hostile encounter.."
I 'm not talking about cops, I'm talking about in the home.
"they are a hindrance to getting the gun out of the holster and firing the gun quickly"
in the home it is not in a holster. And even so new technology can speed things up. Remember when, way back in the old days, you couldn't find sugarless gum that didn't rot your teeth?
The church was talking about open carry.. This is about carrying gun AWAY from home and in holsters. Multiple safeties or small safeties etc. will get you killed in a hostile situation.
At the home same rules apply. Kids wouldn't play with guns if their parents trained them to not play with them and SHOWED them what they do at a range. It is because the kids have never seen it fired etc that they thing they are toys and play with them. If the kid is super young lock it up anyhow in a safe.
how long will it take to get it out of a safe when a burgler is breaking in your window at 3am. A gun with a proximity device would be ready from under your pillow, but if your kid grabs it off the bedroom table to toy with it, IT WON'T FIRE
"As for the AR rifles... ...second amendment is about the right to carry..
who the hell is going to walk to the grocerey store wearing an assault rifle over their shoulder. I'm not trying to take your gun away. MN already makes you remove your gun if you want to enter 95% of any public buildings.
don't live your life being so afraid. Learn to relax, especially if you have a handgun hidden in the small of your back
Also, to reply to your comment about a handgun in the home. What exactly is the difference between a hostile situation in your home vs. on the street? The answer is nothing! Keep the gun out of reach of your kids, and teach them what it is and what it does, and if they are old enough how to handle it safely. By keeping the kid isolated from it totally makes him believe it is daddy's "toy". My kids knew what my guns did and never bothered them. I also keep mine in a safe when not on me.
". What exactly is the difference between a hostile situation in your home vs. on the street?"
One that comes to mind is in your house you are confined closer to the intruder, especially if it someone you know already, making it harder to get away out of the line of fire. In the home you could throw the proximty ring out the window, preventing the gun from working. Outside it would be even easier to disable your gun if physically attacked
As I say.. you obviously have never carried a gun or been in a hostile situation. Whether on the street or in a home, most encounters occur in less than 10 feet from you. Safeties on guns are crap. The best and most reliable guns are the ones with the fewest parts, not with idotic proximity detectors or ring encoders. Safeties on holsters make sence however. Mine for example is a locking holsters that is very difficult for anyone other than me to get the gun out of it.
"you obviously have never carried a gun or been in a hostile situation."
i'm a trained security guard
"Whether on the street or in a home, most encounters occur in less than 10 feet from you."
all the more reason to have this device keep the gun from firing. if you get approached you can decide when to disable your gun by throwing the device (ring, in wallet, necklace) away at the last second.
c'mon man! you sound stupid poo pooing my ideas bc U like your guns' features. New technology
If you are a guard, you do not carry. Most gaurds do not. I practise weekly, reload my own ammunition, carry religiously .. and at least two pistols (Primary and backup).
ANYONE who uses a gun will tell you, complexity makes the gun less reliable. Jams, uncompromising safeties, etc. make your life at risk. forget your proximity device at home? sorry.. gun doesn't work for you either. Wow.. a useless gun when you need it most. Less complexity.. NOT more is better.
future technology to make a smart gun is inevitable. stop trying to live in the past. think about how to make things better. if u r police or a bounty hunter, do what you think is safest on the street. but in the home new ways to make guns only work for the owner are best. Direct your energies toward developing new ways to make handguns reliably responsive to hostile situations where u only have a few seconds to act. Like when a poorly trained 4 yr old tries to shoot his sister for fun.
Cops are no different than home owners. What is good for a cop is good for me. It is why most of my pistols are used by our military or police departments. They do NOT like multiple or complex safeties and would NEVER use an encoder ring or proximity device for their own pistols and neither would I.
As for at the house, keep the gun IN a gun safe or on your person and teach the kids gun safety! It is parents who hide guns and dont teach their kids that their kids get hurt or worse.
Fatalist? Risk your own life with your proximity safeties. lol But you do not have a right to risk mine. I do NOT want such a gun. No one does but you.. who are obviously not even a gun owner.
As for not good enough, I have two kids who never touched my guns because I showed them and tought them how to respect them. When they got older we went hunting together and to the range. Now they are gun owners. Education works fine and a safe is for when it doesn't. It is MORE than enough.
It's a free country. You are allowed to own a handgun without the new technology. But don't lie and say it won't help prevent some lives. I mean if your running away from someone chasing you with your gun, it won't fire if your faster. Also the thief can't use the stolen gun at all SO WHY STEAL IT!
It might prevent a few.. maybe.. but more than likely it will be the cause of some because it didn't work for one reason or another.
Second, how did he exactly get YOUR gun? He pulled it from my LOCKED holster? And how did he do that? If for some reason we did get into a struggle over it I would just let him have it (after all he has to learn how MY gun fires which gives me time), and by that time I have pulled my backup out and he is toast.
you make your country a laughing stock.
