the best of nma, each song speaking clearly for those who will listen, but listen the songs say something different to each of us, making it brilliant even more.
i could be completely missing the point here, but isn't the song about the effects of post-colonisation? how colonisation starts off by taking away a country's identity and exploiting them, giving them a european education to try and control them, but because this kind of education involves a lot of egalitarian values, everyone pretty much used these ideas against them. and after the war, the colonies jumped ship and evaded responsibility, leaving all of those countries to go into civil war.
an awesome song still sends shivers up my spine 24 years on dug all my old NMA out remembered why i brought 2 copies of vengence cos i wore the 1st copy out HAPPY DAYZ !!!!!
I agree, it is a conservative song- but conservative with a small 'c'. It's definitely against the whole thuggish Tory government that we endured between 78 and 97. I still maintain that the best thinkers have been on the side of a kind of enlightened socialism. Great song, though :)
Thats a shit hot live performance! That was on the "Raw Melody Men" album and video was it..?Good view of Justin picking at the end.Sussed out the acoustic guitar outro bit just watching that!....Sound!
Sublime! I can relate to NMAs lyrics more than any other band! I think I should get a share of the royalties from the amount of people I`ve turned on to this band!People hear it in my car or house and after a while say "Who the fucks that?thats brilliant!".And a week or two later have every album! But its a buzz to spread the word!Working on a cover of "Lib Ed"!Cant say enough good things about this band!!
Great song, the best version of this song is on the "All of this" live rarities album. I've seen NMA preforming for about 15 times... every time when they play in Holland. Best band ever!
I love finding amazing songs accidentaly, <3.

@Nihilocracy
about a liberal education, quite literally. The rest is up to you I guess.

"..Nie trzeba nam przeszkadzać
Nie chcieliśmy zwycięstwa
Po prostu chcieliśmy walczyć
Ale wy tego nie chcieliście
Mówiliście, że nie przystoi walczyć
Popsuliście każdą zabawę
Złamaliście odwieczne okowy
I nikt nie szanuje was za wasza słabość..." W latach 80 dużo to znaczyło- dzisiaj również znaczy.
Dzięki Justin!

Take away our history
Take away our heroes
Take away our values
And leave us here with nothing
