She didn't. Death of significant characters is what a lot of mangas and animes lack, unfortunately.

It's never significant enough, and a lot of emotions isn't transfered, if just a lot of fodder dies.

She died, it was an amaizing scene. In the manga, she reincarnated (yes, if they didn't kill those other characters, they brought her back too, just differently). So, she is dead.

@BljesakiOluja well i havent read the manga, but i beg to differ! much of the anime i watched had the protagonist die in the end and it was just right, i wont say which anime those were because i would wanna spoil any scenes for people who havent watched them yet, but in elfen lied it qas ambigous because the final scene didnt actually show her die, maybe they changed few things begtween the manga and anime
