@13biglou1992 Whoever manages the WWE website is clueless when it comes to wrestling moves. There's no semblence of a DDT, Wendi is applying a straight, falling power bomb.
In a interview Wendi said she wrestles kind of stiff. I see what see means. It looks rough. Good match. I wish the Divas were more like this. Sure, they look great, but I rather see quality matches. Was this the first ever powerbomb? If not does anyone know who used a powerbomb the first?
Quality women's wrestling matches like this one, and top notch women wrestlers like Wendi and Liz, continue to be better than the dis-likes of Kelly Kelly and the useless Bellas that Vince and the WWE keep pushing on us.
EZ Wendi' s move is the Thunderfire Powerbomb such as Bull Nakano used; one of the differences between this and Judy Martin's is that frankly Judy got more velocity as she basically whipped the opponent down to the mat; this type of bomb either Bull or here Wendi followed down into a pin.
Judy did whip and drive her opponent down after she pulled and lifted her up, while Bull and Wendi sought to add more impact by going down with them. Either way, either one, all four versions were devastating.
Also, Suzuka Minami also executed the Thunderfire Power Bomb, as well as the Sit-Out Power Bomb. In fact, Suzuka also executed Judy's style of power bomb, too.
Suzuka must have used different variations depending on who she was facing and/or the sequence of events taking place during the course of the specific matches she wrestled.
Not only that, but it's also representative of how strong, skilled, and powerful that Wendi, and Judy, and Devil Masami, and Bull Nakano, and Suzuka Minami, etc., all were.
All of these woman wrestlers have applied the power bomb and/or made it their finisher.
One of the women's wrestling history web sites lists all of the holds, with photos, power bomb included.
There's some excellent action shots of Wendi executing the power bomb, from where she pulls and lifts Liz up in the atop her shoulders to where Wendi drives Liz down to the mat hard and strong.
I see. Thanks for that. What about during Wendi's famous face run with Cyndi Lauper in the mid-1980's? I see that there are several Wendi Richter matches up on youtube at the moment, but I don't have the time to go through all of them. And she won several of her matches by just rolling her opponents up from what I can tell.
All of what you said is correct. A pro wrestling history web site listed Wendi's finisher as the Widowmaker, even though I've never seen her even apply that move.
My guess is that Wendi used the over-the-shoulder backbreaker and/or the Richter Bomb at either the WWF's/WWE's and/or the WWC's untelevised house shows.
An old issue of All Girl Wrestling from April 1986, Issue #17, features an exclusive interview with Liz Chase.
Liz was in her 6th year in pro wrestling then. Not only did Liz look good, she looked older than her age, and she was very wise.
Liz Chase also trained one of today's woman wrestlers, Riptide, also known as The Prodigette from the ORIGINAL E.C.W., and NOT Vince's ECW lite version.
I'm not sure about this, but according to an old Ladysports magazine article, the surgery was reported to be a complication resulting from cosmetic surgery. I have some old Ladysports mags, so I'll check those first.
I didn't find those old Ladysports magazines, but from what I read, Liz was reportedly having cosmetic surgery, and she died from some unspecified medical complications from that surgery.
Wendi will always be the best female wrestler in my opinion! Wrestling lost a great star and will never recover from a lose as pure as that! However, Wendi used her power and strength for good and has become a sucessful and educated woman working as an Occupational Therapist! She has many rewards, I am sure of!
Wendi and Liz faced each other once before on television, when both women opposed each other in a tag team match. Wendi was teamed with Moolah, and Wendi did a vicious number on Liz back then.
Liz was lucky that Wendi didn't have the power bomb in her arsenal at that time, or Wendi would have beaten her even WORSE in that first match.
Since Wendi mentioned in her shoot interviews that Judy Martin and Joyce Grable were among the 3 women that trained her (Leilani Kai was the third), we must ask this question...
Which of these 2 women taught Wendi the power bomb, Joyce or Judy? Or did they both teach her the finisher?
Wendi's possibly named "Richter Bomb", as described by WWfan79, is a 99% accurate description.
Wendi pulls and lifts Liz up into the air, but as she is leaning her weight forward as she drives Liz down, Wendi comes down on her right knee as she drives Liz down hard on her back.
I don't know if Wendi's power bomb finisher was named the Richter Bomb, or if it even had a name. What I can say, and will say, is that Wendi applied her power bomb beautifully.
Wendi said that one of the women who trained her was Judy Martin, the original women's wrestling power bomb queen. Judy taught Wendi VERY well.
Not surprising, in the WWE's "Famous Finishers" special edition issue, the WWE doesn't even MENTION Judy Martin's name in the piece talking about the power bomb, much less, give Judy any credit for using and winning with the finisher.
Gurantee you that Wendi is giving Judy her credit, since Judy trained her, AND since Judy taught her how to apply that power bomb!
The Ritcher Bomb looks like a Falling Powerbomb where instead she sits down making it a sitout powerbomb, she just falls down with her opp and pin them while leaning her weight into the pin, thus making it a Falling Powerbomb.
Wendi Richter is just 50, Kevin Nash is 52 and he still wrestles... forget we want ryder, we want wendi!!!!

Technically, what Wendi applied on Liz is a Thunderfire Power Bomb.
The sit-out version was used by the late great Monster Ripper, and on occasion by Devil Masami, Masami mostly used the Thunderfire Power Bomb.

that move is called a power bomb Now not sure what they called it back then

They didn't have a name for it back then.

Wendi likely learned the power bomb from Judy Martin.
She mentioned in her 2005 interviews that Judy trained her, and the power bomb was Judy's finisher.

Lord Alfred Hayes called the move "The Drip Dry"
Gene Okerlund and Gorilla Monsoon called the move "Inverted Backbreaker".

Yeah, but "power bomb" sounds more damaging.
Not only that, but it's also representative of how strong, skilled, and powerful that Wendi, and Judy, and Devil Masami, and Bull Nakano, and Suzuka Minami, etc., all were.

Wendi passed on an invitation from the WWE to appear at Wrestlemania 25 this year.
She correctly, and rightfully, doubted the sincerity of the invitation from both the WWE and Vince.
ez2tv3 2 years ago
Probably because of "The Original Screwjob".
RyokixEdogawa 2 years ago 9
DEFINITELY would be a more likely term. But far from the only reason.
ez2tv3 2 years ago
What would be the main reason other than that?
RyokixEdogawa 2 years ago
Another reason was that Wendi suspected that Vince would embarass and humiliate her and/or women's wrestling (WM 25 diva battle royal).
A third reason was money, namely that Vince ripped Wendi (among other wrestlers, male and female) off of their rightful monetary compensation.
ez2tv3 2 years ago
ahhh. Vince's a douchee.

Exactly.

That, plus a lot of other negative things. It's one of the MANY reasons why I call him Don Vinnie The Perv.

I miss Liz Chase. She wasn't overlooked, but at the same time, not enough people knew of her, either.
She was special, and she was remembered by present woman wrestler Riptide, who was one of Liz's proteges.

What was Wendi's finisher before the Richter Bomb?
Klias 3 years ago
When Wendi was heel in the early 80's, she used the over-the-shoulder backbreaker as her finishing move.
Wendi used it on Jill Fontaine and Velvet McIntyre.
myleswayne 3 years ago
