  • when i was a kid my tio(uncle),who looks a lot like cheech from cheech and chong, use to drink king cobra by the quart smoke pot and play humble pie songs on his acoustic guitar in his undies. your welcome.

  • Amazing - what a voice! Took me back in time...

  • is there a live version of this song out there in musicland?

  • Yoch3...glad I made someone smile. I guess that means something in a world of insanity.

  • utube is such a cunt, removing videos; limiting free expression and you fools argue about who is the better performer. go get a job or at least "anarchize" something.

  • @dqfreemind at least "anarchize" something... great line - gave me a smile. Have a good morning!

  • I had heard and liked a lot of the Small Faces material (and indeed The Faces) but until recently I had not heard much if any of Humble Pie - even the covers are superb, and I particularily like the take on Beatles stuff. Thanks for posting.

  • LOVE IT!!! Thanks!

  • eye can't stand my brain when its not here with me.salmander brain transplant oh window pain can you remember it's not your brain ha ha ha doctor i don't need no doctor! Welcome to the underground

  • Steve Marriot, what a version, nailed it right on the head

  • Obviously some of you folks don't know what IS the blues! I have much respect for Mr Marriot, as well as for Eric Burdon as blues influenced rock performers, but these guys are NOT blues artists. The best white blues singer ever was Stevie Ray Vaughn!

  • @MrGthrasher : I suppose when you are going to tout MR VAUGHAN's name about you should know how to spell it...jus sayin.

  • @TheBluzgal----- Thanks for pointing out my typographical error. Actually I do know how to spell the name, but unfortunately I don't have good typing skills and I make a mistake from time to time.

  • @MrGthrasher All I can say is WOW! I respect your opinion but I think you missed the mark in respect to these two gentlemen. Eric Burdon IS a blues singer and I don't think there is any other way to categorize him. As for Mr. Marriott if you can't hear it, then there is no use debating it.

  • I wonder what Ann Peebles thought of her track? Hard not to be impressed by Steve.

  • @businesstripz Eric Burdon isnt a patch on Marriott's back pocket..

  • That "white boy" don't need no qualifyin'. He was one of the all time best- no matter what human tree his line rolled down from. He had that indefinable "it"- it oozed outta his smile, his stance, the way he strutted, the curl of his lips- Look up cool- that was Steve Marriott

  • Season of the witch !

  • hahaha...he sounds like someone kicking the neighborhood cat... what a mofo screeeeeeeeeeeech fest!!!!!!!

  • This is fabulous, they nailed it! I love this song and all the versions of it.

  • MFW Steve marriots actual 55 gibson les paul is in my house when i get back from my girlfriends!

    apparently worth about 20 grand

  • Best white blues singer is Eric Burdon man..........but this is good

  • STEVE WAS / IS THE GREATEST SLINKY ROCK N ROLLER EVER

  • If only the young kiddies would listen to this, they wouldn't need to idolize the posers of today.

  • The 60's and 70's was by far the best time of my life regarding music. Humble Pie, White Witch, Randy California, Spirit, Yes, Deep Purple.....I could go on and on - I hope that I have left this musical legacy to my two girls!!

  • This is real music!

  • I want my mama......this stuff is so good it scares me.

  • I need this song like a drug , I have to listen to it everyday or things just dont go right , thanks so much for the post!

  • With all due respect to all the other english blues guitarists / singers, when it comes to blues Peter Green is the man. End of story.

  • @ostss

Did somebody make you the music critic of the week?

  • @craniuman

ya you tell him mister (lolz).

  • @ostss the beauty of music is it isn't a competition how many hours are in your life? you have time to listen to more then just one band,I love Peter Green,Humble Pie and many others and thank god for there great music! I can't stand bands like nirvana but for somebody out there that's what speaks to there soul and that's the beauty of it all! I wouldn't go on Nirvana's page and slag them just to be an jerk,I just go to the people I do love and enjoy!

  • @ostss True, true, true. However this song is really beautiful, a composition of Ann Peebles et al, a true soul artist. This is soul music at its best. Not to be confused with blues. Totally different, but nonetheless just as nice.

No competition, let's just enjoy what these artists have given us.

And, Steve Mariott was great, sadly he passed away the way he did.

  • @ostss Chris Youlden rules right along side with Steve Marriott and Peter Green

  • your male from amherst and your 57 into stockings cockhacker fuckin asshole you like NRBQ and FAT and NEW RIDERS and GREENLEAF and AZTEC 2 STEP

  • @BerkLeeDrm Please go back and at least get your 8th grade diploma, for Yara, ok hunni! ;o)

  • Jezuz H Christ has this white boy got a soul voice to die for or what???

This was in the day when singers had voices, not like the shite 'X-fucter' puts out today!

    Bring it on back, sooooon!!!

    Yeah, bring it on Stevie...

    Phuckin stunnin!!!

  • @brando6358 The sad thing is the x factor would eliminate him immediately. Fool and dogs rule the music industry now.

  • Yep! Steve you were and will always be the real deal.

  • @bobbitcat Yeah brother, you remember. There's very few that can make a noise like that, sweet, & real!

  • lowell george's version was so much better

  • Hail Marriott!

  • ......Seeker........you have successfully Sook !!! dont get no better! thanx for the post

  • It wasn't just his voice or guitar playing , Steve had the total package ..charisma , stage presence , talent .. and did 30 days in the hole , even the Hansons couldn't survive that ...

  • doncha mean johnny winter, not edgar??

  • He knocks it out of the park.

  • steve marriott has so much soul in all of his songs...what an EXCELENT concert humble pie put on!!! saw edgar winter also but sorry steve is the MAN!!!

  • That white boy could scream!! Too bad he didn't get his props. Sorry kustomride, Edgar Winter can't hold his own with Steve Marriott (my "humble" opinion). And Axel Rose WISHES he could even sound like Steve.

  • That white boy could scream!! Too bad he didn't get his props. Sorry kustomride, Edgar Winter can't hold his own with Steve Marriott (my "humble" opinion).

  • That white boy could scream!! Too bad he didn't get his props.

  • Both Great!!

  • I was listening to Big Mama Thornton sing this and I stumbled onto this pure gold. I just don't know what to SAY, its so good.

  • Best version of "can't stand the rain", that voice!

  • anyone else think axel rose sounds a little like steve?

  • @TheRandiniarolla Axel Rose doesn't sing, he just cries like a baby with a poor voice

  • @piecomol lol he's a whiny baby alright, but give a listen to Patience by GnR, you can't tell me he doesn't sing well in that song (and a few others). ; )

  • @piecomol Asshole Rose couldn't stand on the same stage with Steve Marriott

  • @uglyorphan Epic answer and true too

  • Saw them open for the REAL Black Sabbath at the Alexandria Roller Rink......badass!!

  • Fuck me - this is good!

  • Yes you missed some great bands live. I met most of the British bands that toured USA because I had connections. Got backstage or to hotel rooms 90% of attempts for bands I had not yet known. Hard to believe it was 40 years ago. Last I counted I met about 60 of the groups in that era.

  • on his solo disc lowell george does a take on this tune

now i love lowell george i think he was a true musical

    not just rocknroll genius

but im pretty sure mister george would bow to mister marriott

a battle of the takes ever took place

b/c - we know - stevie marriott if there is in fact a rocknrill heaven

where the concert never ends we know marriott is on stage center

    we KNOW that

  • Oh yes, this is how I like my music served. :)

  • I have this cassette, I play it in my van all the time!! I graduated in "74" and I think the music of the late 60's and 70's will always be the Best!!!!!!! I have listened to All rock music from the 70's to the present day. There have been Alot of really damn good songs throughout the years I can't deny!! But I just can't get all those songs from the 70's out of my head and heart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    STUCK IN THE 70'S

  • nobody does this better. not even fucking close.

  • seeker you just keep seeking cause you are doing just fine!

  • hey dis....your uncle rocked dood!

  • very cool. i imagine this is more or less the way free with paul rogers would have done it.

  • Steve is my uncle. im 14 now he is prob my fav uncle. love hearing him and seeing how he looked then lol. but anyway he is still awesome. and no im not lying you can think it if you want but i know im not so yeah.

  • steve is your favorite uncle? so naturally you know hes dead yeah? yeah your right no one believes you. "hes awesome" awesomely dead. Also i bet he looked a lot better then than what he does now

  • yeah he is my uncle and yeah he is still awesome. when i say that i mean it in a loving way stupid i know hes dead. a i also don't care what you tihnk cause i know its true so its not hurting me.

  • @DisneyLover05 your a lucky individual to have such a talented uncle! he is sorely missed.

  • Cool as fuck, is this the original?

  • The original is by Ann Peebles. As much as I like Steve Marriott, the original is still a cut above.

  • yeahhhhhh

  • wind instruments really bring out steve's voice - the best !!!!! thanks for posting!!!!

  • Steve Marriott was the best Rock & Roll singer & Best White Blues singer ever...Bar None.

  • @1959rocco OH HELL NO!!! That distinction belongs to John Hammond Jr.!!!!!! And Lowell By God George is a VERY CLOSE SECOND!!!!!!!

  • @1959rocco

Marriott was the best white rock singer, agreed. But Edgar Winter holds the title as best white blues singer, imho. It's a close call.

  • @1959rocco agreed!

  • @1959rocco

How about Paul Rodgers.. Not bad either

  • @dorianadams Paul Rodgers...Steve Marriott and Layne Staley..the fricken` best!

  • @1959rocco Have you ever listened to Lowell George (RIP) from Little Feat?

  • @misterman2u Little Feat died with Lowell George. Waiting for Columbus has been...Waiting on my turntable since.

  • Nice version love it

  • nice....never heard this version. new favorite.

  • hmm head Ann Peebles's version first , then Tina Turner's and I thought no one can sing it any better, till that is, I found out Steve did this song too and boy did he SING the song or what.

  • Nothing is better than this....This band is one of the greats

  • "it's bringin back sweet memories".

    this group was so awesome!

  • this song makes me hate rain...

    :-)

  • No you are not thinking correctly... this song makes me want to **** in the rain.....listen to it again and put alittle pelvis into it!!

  • Steve is the MAN!

  • like my Pie with whip cream. rain or shine.

this man, his voice. rivals Plant, in unique tone, and reach..once you have heard him. You know. And you are oh, so much better for it.

    Pass me some Pie, please.

  • You are so right.

  • BAD ASS MO FO'S

Makes you BELIEVE he "Can't stand the rain"

    10 ★★★★★★★★★★

  • This is the real deal here folks!

Maybe this is not "politically correct"

but thats one soulful sounding white boy!!

  • AMEN BROTHER

  • Indeed!

I don't think anyone gave a shit about being PC in the 70's.

  • @clamdraggin you better believe it!

  • @clamdraggin omg races i am NOT but i thank you shuld not sayig these things in ublic!!!!

  • @clamdraggin white MAN

  • I've got this on cassette someplace-I gotta go find it!

  • awesome....induces a strong desire to go pick up my guitar. Real music, nothing better!

  • Still brings a tear to the eye after all these years. Check out Ann Peables cut. Just as soulful.

  • @ NcalBiker I agree that Ann's version

is good! But I gotta go with the cover on this one...I mean Steve just WAILS on this!

Down and Dirty! One mean slice of Pie!!!

  • Absolutely!!! Indeed, he does, and it is!!! It's unfortunate the the entire band had gotten a little off the track with the blues\soul idea. "My opinion". It would have been an interesting, maybe temporary, transition time for them, as well as us. I would have loved to see where they would have taken it. Still, it's a shame that they ended the ride. It's raining here at the moment, so excuse me as I order another red-eye and play this track, and rock out just a little.

  • Nothing like Blued Soul

  • what an awesome band especially live play that funky bluesy soul.....we lost a great voice when he passed...when i feel sown i put a humble pie record (remember those things) and let the music take me away

  • possibley the best vocal delivery EVER!!!!

  • Its up there! Definitely one of the greatest!

  • The greatest

  • the best period

  • I had forgotten how good humble pie is, they dont make music like this anymore

  • Morphinelounge how can you say that the LP Thunder Box had a " (great raunchy cover)." It's cover was classier then Playboy and wasn't profane like sticky fingers (Rolling Sones cover) I thought it was done neatly and without being raunchy.

  • Hey Tammy, how'd u know I loved Humble Pie? Thx for the share Col32rocks. Great vid*****

  • very cool thanks slickhonky for the share

  • Thanks Charlie, I hadn't remembered that H.P. had covered this at the end. Bluesy, very rocky, and I can't stop playin it!

  • WTF

  • and that classic rock

  • This is from the LP Thunder Box (great raunchy cover). This might not go down well with everybody but this is the definite cover of this song. Hats of to Humble Pie.

  • Lowell George of Little Feat covered this on his solo record, just before he died. As much as I liked LG this one is much better. RIP Lowell and Steve there ain't no more around like you !!!

  • love the original and love this cover

  • What a great piece of raunchy low-down rock and roll.

  • Dirty...Filthy even

  • Warjacki,I hit the wrong thing...you are right this is so low-down.....two thumbs up..........bluesmahn

  • Holy Fuck Me Mother Shit.

I forgot about this one. Off Thunderbox? Oh Yeah, Marriot is on mother fucking faiya. Is there a live cut of this?

WOW I love the rain, but I'm not so sure anymore.

  • i know huh..

  • Fantastic cover. It's great. It sounds like a rehearsal with Chicago, and not only because of the horns. Thank you theseeker23.

  • Forget all the would-be singers, this guy's got the BEST voice ever given to a man on our fucking planet !

It must have been said a billion times already, but who cares ? It's still true as well ! His voice catches you as soon as you start listening to the song and you only get out of it in the end, but this is only to replay it again and again. Other than the average MTV stuff, huh ? One regret though : why do all the singers I love have to be so DEAD ? I guess I was born too late...(sigh)

  • me encanta....

  • ESTUPENDA VERSIÓN.(No grito, es que no encontraba las gafas..)

  • i can only imagine a duet with marriot and terry reid. goodness. (maybe oneday in the great gig in the sky)

  • dude at 52, so glad to be seeing steve here on you tube.. he is my all time favorite, saw them in san berdoo, chicago and a few times later on in the clubs in no. co. san diego, my ears are still ringing!!! johnny c.

  • lucky you-wish i had those memories

  • with any luck, some of the kids might get to hear Steve that probably never would have stumbled across him without u tube. I would like to hear a new band with the right influences, and maybe this increased accessibility to the greats like Steve and others will wake some folks up.

  • I have been listening to Marriott since I was 5-6 years old. Now I am 17. Can't get enough of the guy. There won't be another Steve Marriott, thats for sure. Gotta love music of the 50's, 60's, and 70's. Especially the blues, and blues/rock...

  • i just discovered this band. steve marriott is (or was) a GOD. what happened to him?

  • Steve Marriott tragically died in a house fire in the early 90's, bless his soul.

  • wow, shame. thanks :/

  • i just love this tune. marriott was the most soulfull voice that ever graced a microphone.

  • all i gotta say is .....that boy had a voice!!! God Bless Steve Marriott...!!! (did i spell that rite???)

  • I can't stand the rain is it on the album humble pie as well as thunderbox?

  • Long John Baldry laid the ground work for these bands. and many got their start with him.

  • how soon did marriot start up humble pie after small faces,,and anyone know if he and lane had a fall out? ....carrrying on doing the faces,,i wanna learn about all of it,how did rod stewart get involved? help anyone, please.

  • HP started out in late 1968, early 69. Marriott didn't want to be with the small face anymore, frampton was sick of the Herd... that's how they came about. Ronnie Wood and Rod Stewart joined the Faces because the Jeff Beck Group had just split up.

  • thanx..,im learning more, did marriot feel his band were becoming a kinda joke band?

I like humble pie,but the small faces have that instant appeal, thanx for info,

  • Yes, I guess so. People did not really take them seriously, especially after Ogdens'... as a pop band, yes, but not a band which makes serious music. And then The Universal, which was supposed to be less pop-y and joke-y than Ogdens', didn;t fare that well... which was a bit of a last straw.

  • cheers..,

was you around in those days?

I love loads of band since 70s ect,..but I always go back to the small faces, beatles, dylan, kinks, who, love ect..

i was born in 72..though i feel I was there in spirit somehow haha

  • I wish! No, I was born in 1987... what I know about those bands is only what I can gather from books and websites, sadly. my favourite bands are from the 60s onwards too... it's true, it's a pity being born too late ;)

  • Early Faces is pretty dope. Look up Small Faces Tin Soldier. And don't feel so bad about being young now because at least we have youtube. thanks, youtube guys!

  • seeker,

I was there, dude, and believe me-- you don't want to be hitting 50. Enjoy your life and the old school stuff too while you're young. You can always listen to it and feel 15 again anyway. At least I do. Like the song says... 'bringin' back sweet memories'. Thanks for the Humble Pie!

  • That's just fine.... at least you have an old soul ... this is good .... me?....seen Humble Pie in 1972 (I was 17 then) ... Milwaukee Summerfest ... thru the riot and all!

  • This for theseeker23 down below

  • @theseeker23 good taste of music and you must be good in instrument..

  • @theseeker23 Born in 88. Have thought the same for years and still thinking of it. Blues, Funk, Jazz, Rock... something happened back in those days. There's a warmth and a power in the music I never found later and sooner (even if 50's are great for jazz). I can't understand these tectonik kids dancin on cold garbage. The fact that they like it doesn't bother me (the fact that this shit is everywhere you go is another problem) but it think nowadays that music is so cold. No groove, no soul...

  • Steve felt that the Small Faces would never be a great live band. Humble Pie on the other hand was an excellent live band. Ronnie Lane was pretty pissed at Steve for leaving, but over the years I think they tried to patch things up. I think Steve got a little emotional when he realized how sick Ronnie was with MS.

  • @sydskyds i saw somewhere that when jimmy page was looking for a lead singer for led zep steve marriot was considered way before robert plant.

  • One of the ALL TIME BEST EVAR performances.... : )

  • Steve sure could hit those high notes with athourity.

  • OOPS mispelled authority there!

  • Killer!!! I LOVE MY PIE!!! Give us all another heaping of PIE....Please???

Best dam band in the land, sho nuff...

    I give it a 10 plus...

  • great version! i love that this version has the piano instead of that bizarre tapping noise. steve rocks.

  • Personally I loved Lowell Georges version but,Humble Pie does rock this song also.

  • bad ass! from before music got sick an died....check out how virile their horn section sounds...check it out...... when we were 2 gether.........whew, baby!

  • Steve's version is the best af all! NICE!

  • Good Job! Thanx!
