Another way to name this lick is Half Diminished arpeggio lick. You can take the root note of any dominant 7 chord and substitute it for a minor 7 flat 5 chord which contains the same notes as for instance a C9 or Em7b5 Cool and fun way to spice up your blues shinangins
@bugabutu Hehe. You can always tell it's Gregor even before the camera zooms out. Not only from the great licks, but from the shade of the fingernails. :-)
I know I'll annoy people by saying this BUT, if someone can't figure out the notes by ear then they really aren't going to be great musicians. I think this is accepted as the truth by everyone except those who are guilty of it. Ok, shoot.
You play realy good, how did you learn to play jazzy like that? Did you start playing classical and later play electric?, did you take lessons or did you learn it all by yourself?
@MFJord1 I tried to figure out on my records everything wich was interesting (this was in the pre-Internet days....) - then I modified and changed the material with my own ideas
Grossartig, was Du da spielst.
Deine LICKS of the WEEK sind ebenfalls super.

That's what i was talking about when i asked you if you're gonna upload some lessons for us. I hate that lessons when people start talking, first finger, seventh fret. Just show me the lick. Nice and simple and very usefull. I'm proud that i subscribed you months ago. thanks
I've studied lot Mike Bloomfield (in the beginning, he was my first Blues Hero), than Peter Green, B.B. King, etc). I've heard a lot of Blues rock too like ZZ Top, became more interested in Jazz (Larry Carlton, Wes Montgomery) Fusion (Scofield, Metheny). I've transcribed a lot and every time when heard a nice lick on a record I figuered out and tried to change it a little bit. Pus: I always tried to combine the stuff with my own ideas (very imprtant!). So, a mixture of this is the result
Kracher!

Great ! I like the way you give us just what we need to understand the lick, but few enough to force us to figure out some stuff by oursleves. Like also your use of text boxes to avoid lots of unuseful talking. Thanks very much !
This is exactly what I need! Thanks so much for taking the time to break down some of your trademark licks and chordal progressions. It really helps. Looking forward to the next installment

Lick of the week! Great to see you giving some free lessons on youtube!
Hope to see any of those tricks you often use, that sound somehow "out of scale". Don't know if it's the diminished scale, or chromatic passing notes...
nice one greg thanx for this lesson...gonna get on it right now!! i LOVE little short lessons covering one lick at a time! one of the best ways to learn imo....keep em coming greg! 5 star post

Hey Greg, may I ask you a personal question? Which guitar players had the most impact on you as a young guitarist?
Because you have that unique jazzy style blues, which I can't relate to any famous guitar player.
I hope you will find the time to answer that...
Thanks!
