I think the root of the problem is that lots of Americans dont see it as in "calling in the favor" but more in terms of good versus evil. The fact that they came to rescue in WW2 is not directly to say that the french should do the same, but to show they are on the side of good, because they were on the side of good 60 odd years ago. The might of the Wehrmacht was destroyed on the Russian front. The Normandy landings were heroic but they were made possible by the large numbers of German troops deployed in the east. The numbers of Russians who lost their lives in WW2 speak for themselves.

As an American, I don't expect any country liberated by the US in WWII to act "more American" or to pretend to like us. Europeans did show a lot of gratitude in the years immediately following the war. During the cold war, while we had troops in Berlin holding the Soviets, it seems like this establishment of Anti-Americanism kind of came out of nowhere. Now it's cool to hate America. @SunBeamsan Look GB didnt challenge the Germans as they did not agree with the terms of the T.o.V and felt they crushed germany the french had already occupied the Rhur as germany faild to pay several of their reparations, this caused germany to descend in to Hyperinflation- they were later bailed out by the americans. Also another reason was it was so close to the last War and no one ever wanted anything like that to occur again.

Einstein had nothing to do with the A-bomb other than signing a letter to Roosevelt. He wasn't even a member of the Manhattan Project. It took 500,000 Americans and the largest wartime procurement budget of the war to make the A-bomb. Judging by all your other comments I see your another example of the failed Euro education system.

I fully agree with the video.
I think the root of the problem is that lots of Americans dont see it as in "calling in the favor" but more in terms of good versus evil. The fact that they came to rescue in WW2 is not directly to say that the french should do the same, but to show they are on the side of good, because they were on the side of good 60 odd years ago. There mistaken conclusion they make is "once good, always good" about themselves and "once evil, always evil" about others.

I'm American and I don't feel that any of the European countries we helped to liberate in WW2 are in any way obligated to go to war with us, and I don't think most Americans feel that way either. The way we're portrayed by the general European media is pretty distasteful though. Just look at the vid "What the French youth think of the U.S." and you'll see what I mean.

Yes and no. Those whom wanted to involve France first was the idealists. For instance Lafayette and Beaumarchais were. They raised funds to give the colonies weapons, ammos, canon, foods, uniforms etc. That's the voice of those idealists that the king heard as well as the one of Franklin. As a rationalist, Louis XVI wanted to put down UK, sure, but which country doesn't follow interests ? The USA in WW2 didn't go to Europe to save France neither. The might of the Wehrmacht was destroyed on the Russian front. The Normandy landings were heroic but they were made possible by the large numbers of German troops deployed in the east. The numbers of Russians who lost their lives in WW2 speak for themselves.

As an American, I don't expect any country liberated by the US in WWII to act "more American" or to pretend to like us. Europeans did show a lot of gratitude in the years immediately following the war. During the cold war, while we had troops in Berlin holding the Soviets, it seems like this establishment of Anti-Americanism kind of came out of nowhere. Now it's cool to hate America. It's like all Europeans share the same stereotypical views of Americans. Oh well. Too bad.

@SunBeamsan Look GB didnt challenge the Germans as they did not agree with the terms of the T.o.V and felt they crushed germany the french had already occupied the Rhur as germany faild to pay several of their reparations, this caused germany to descend in to Hyperinflation- they were later bailed out by the americans. Also another reason was it was so close to the last War and no one ever wanted anything like that to occur again.

It was the UK who was key in imposing it's draconian reparation measures against Germany that lead to it's hyper inflation and eventual rise of radical nationalism. As i've stated before, most Americans wanted nothing to do with the war and wanted the UK to take control of the situation. There is a grain of truth in the claim that America saved France in WW1. The losses on both sides, French, British, Canadian, Australian, German had been so horrendous that any new troops would make a big difference.
The important thing about WW1 is that the hard fighting and major losses were sustained before America entered the war.

Russia defeated the Nazis. They were the ones who kicked off the end of the nazis at a place called leningrad. They invaded Berlin. The allies would have NEVER entered the war if they didn t have the russians attacking the easter side. Plus...france had pretty much defeated the germans by the time the USA arrived. The contribution of Commonwealth forces in both wars should never be underestimated.
I try to respect everyone who contributed to the war effort regardless of the size of the country. The battle for Poland in 1939 was over in days but the bravery of the Polish army earned the respect of the Germans they faced.

I regret the Falklands War because of the loss of life on both sides. I wish that we could hand it over to Argentina but not at that time when they had a brutal military dictatorship. Maybe we should hand it over but with a 99 year lease so the islanders know what the future holds.

Bush never said Saddam was the cause of 9/11 in his justifications for regime change, based on our cease-fire agreement from 1991.
