Me sigue impresionando. Fue culpa de Beltoise?

  • On that day the safety car was on holiday....

  • ...sry, i know JP was pushing his car and Ignacio died! My english is bad, sorry.

  • This was really bad and completely unnecessary! Poor Ignacio, had to push the car like a mule and just before the pits...! Man this is really sad, RIP Ignacio!

  • @Mirkon177 that was JP Beltoise pushing his fuel-starved Matra......

  • @ma55aracin9

Oh yeah sorry, JP was what i intended to write! Thanks! Very sad story!

  • @Mirkon177 pretty terrible indeed; it started when Beltoise ran out of fuel -right in the middle of the track- and started pushing his car to the pits, an illegal move back then and now....

  • Great upload. A tragedy born by several circumstances: possibly a lack of marshall's flags,a car running out of fuel, a driver pushing his car to the pits,no one helping him,Parkes' 512 going the inside line instead of going through on the right side with lot of room left (the track was 18 meters wide) and Giunti

catching up Parkes, following him closely in the airstream so with no sight of the track. Not convinced about Beltoise being entirely charged for what happened.

  • @indigoblue555 No one helping him? To do what? ARE YOU SERIOUS? Pushing cars on track was expressly FORBIDDEN!!!!!! ... That french prick would have been stopping OUT of track, once out of fuel, and withdraw, as regulation clearly stated. Imho that's murder

  • @mellilore - Back then things were different....different rules and different behaviours. The track staff just kept watching him : neither did they stop his effort nor did they help him.

That looks insane nowaday, but so it was racing in those years.Btw yellow flags were on (I didn't remember this) but I guess Parkes and Giunti didn't take much care of this. The track was extremely wide and all drivers had already seen Beltoise action since a few laps as far as I recall.

  • @indigoblue555 Again I do not agree: back then things were different, ok, but even back then pushing cars along the track was expressly forbidden by regulations. Beltoise shouldn't never ever had been there, as clearly stated by actual regulations, and what happened since he was there is only his fault.

  • @mellilore And what the other drivers were supposed to do? To stop racing because a self-focused solipsistic careless prick was pushing his car against rules right in the very middle of the fast lane givin a fucc about everyone else's life?

You may say none asked them to stop, they could have just slow down... well, they already did it, but at no avail: imo Ignazio waved off parkes' tail just to have a look at where Beltoise was. Sadly in the worst instant ever

  • @mellilore - I recall so many insane behaviours in those years....insane for our present standard of course. Foolish moves of any sort were largely accepted and rarely sanctioned. That's why I'd go for an unfortunate sum of circumstances causing Giunti's fatal accident. Beltoise was charged as the only guilty subject and back to the whole context in which the event took place, that was unjust omop.

That was my thought at the time and that's what I think today.

  • @indigoblue555 I'm a big enthusiast of historic racing, nevertheless I can't recall anything similar... yet it could be my lack of knowledge. And I just can't see anyone else to be considered guilty for that mess.

It is no drama if everyone stays with its own mind

  • @mellilore A pleasure discussing with mellilore though.

  • @indigoblue555 The same to me. Cheers mate

  • I didnt know there was footage of this sad crash!!!

  • I remember the film also shows, at the beginning, the improvised F1 GP, made with regular F1 cars (except Ferraris, which were retired by the italian team in respecto to Giunti's death) and F5000 cars, held 2 weeks after the 1000 kms. shown here. Also, the film ends with a 300 Indy race in Rafaela, Santa Fe, around 350 km north of BA. Great posting!

  • Yes, it is true the film ends with 300 indy race. this is a very good film

  • I perfectly remember that afternoon in Italy : I was 11 yo and I was on the way back from the stadium with my late father.. we stop to take some pizza home and from the radio I heard the terrible news. Giunti was my favourite F1 driver and surely a future ace with Ferrari... I hated Beltoise for that, and I still think he should have to be banned from races !!!

  • Fantastic and rare images, please I would like to know the name of the argentinian film and if you can make a copy for me or help me to buy it.

  • The name is Piloto de Pruebas, but only show one part of race

  • Where did you get this from? It's weird that its taken years to get on the net.... Thanks for posting it, amazing footage.

  • Thankss, Iam from Argenitna. this is an argentinian's film wich shows part of 1000km Buenos Aires's race
