She explains all of it at great length, including why she had to lie, the ceremonial proceedures concerning her wedding, etc. It is a great read, although some of what she went through-especially the physical and emotional abuse from her mother is disturbing and hard to read. The Economist article itself has two errors that I quickly noticed. Firstly, it claimed that Ayaan stated in "Infidel" that her sister Haweya died because of religious insanity. Ayaan actually stated that though she thought religion played a part, she didn't fully blame everything on Islam, but also the abortion and yearning for Western life. Secondly, the ending of the article attacks her from a point of view of cultural relativism without justifying that premise. How ridiculous!

This kind of thing doesnt happen except by immigrants who come from a different culteral values. In our well educated secular society, women are much better protected then anywhere in the muslim world. Just look at the rich muslims who with support of the clergy who marry rich muslims to poor girls from other countries for one/few days and then get a clergy based divorce. All legal within islame.

Sorry everything that she said happen, could easily happen in a muslim country, so if that is the message people get, that is what counts. Life for women under islame is bad. Some women don't know better, and they live their whole life not knowing the burden they bear under islame. Hopefully more discussion about islame, will help educate the poor uneducated muslum woman.

I highly suggest to the people watching this and are easily swayed by propaganda, to actually read her autobiography. She explains all of it at great length, including why she had to lie, the ceremonial proceedures concerning her wedding, etc. It is a great read, although some of what she went through-especially the physical and emotional abuse from her mother is disturbing and hard to read. Nevertheless, I highly recommend Infidel for the strong-minded; for those interested in truth.

The Economist article itself has two errors that I quickly noticed. Firstly, it claimed that Ayaan stated in "Infidel" that her sister Haweya died because of religious insanity. Ayaan actually stated that though she thought religion played a part, she didn't fully blame everything on Islam, but also the abortion and yearning for Western life. Secondly, the ending of the article attacks her from a point of view of cultural relativism without justifying that premise. How ridiculous!
