@mencius82 - You would give me the discount because you want me to come back (makes perfect sense) and YES they look at the phone and take the code off the text coupon to enter in for the discount. Some days I wouldn't go to a particular restaurant if they hadn't sent a coupon and they get me in there knowing I will probably spend more than the discount :)

I don't get two things:

1. Why would they give discount at the counter when the customer was already prepared to spend money?

2. If only a text-code is involved, does the company really spend time to verify it?

@mencius82 sometimes the mark up is so high they are still making a profit no mater how many people take advantage of the deal. Plus if you are in business and you put a sign like that out for everyone to see you must have a reason!
