1. @GofreMcNoodle Does it matter! The eggs still tasted good! What is your job? An egg expert? 2. Nicko, you are the only man I know that can cook properly at home!
its kinda funny how the comment "Eggs are chicken baby abortions anyways. Nothing Jesus would really like to eat!" is in every how to videos for poached eggs.
@tubecontrol3 No they are not. Get your facts straight. Eggs are merely that, eggs. They are unfertilized and therefore could never be an "abortion." Unless there was a rooster involved your statement is silly at best.
@Bizz2k Yeah its called an egg poacher. Or you can use metal cookie cutters in the pan to keep the egg together. But they make special egg cups for poaching.
to people arguing whether it's the right method or not, it looks like the method worked just fine for him. You can poach eggs in saltless water, water with no acid, hell you can poach them in hot beef tallow if you want
@Eloades11 Dude seriously, the salt will make the egg white go to crap, I used to wonder why I couldnt poach eggs properly then I found out it was because I was putting salt in the water, go ahead do it and see for yourself. You dont need to use vinegar but it works better if you do, it wont make the egg taste like vinegar, put the salt on after the egg is cooked. Same with scrambled eggs, they come out better if you dont put salt in them while they are cooking.
i've always cooked my poached eggs with a runny yolk, and i boil it for 2-3 mins, and 4-5 mins for a hard yolk, at 1.5 mins the white's are under cooked i also use free range eggs...do you use a higher temperature?
thats the way to make real poached eggs ,,not those eggs with all the shit on them
the ones cooked in rings ..my ,mammy taught me and i taught my kids
i make awesome toast, crispy bacon rashers baked bean with a touch of cheese topped with a poached egg ..its a fucking gastranomic delight ,a taste sensation ..oh man my mouth watering just thinking about it
This guys an idiot! He has no idea how to poach an egg! I bet you that egg is not the same egg that he dropped in. He spun the water way too fast and he should have dropped the egg more in the center of the vortex, not on the outer edge. Plus most of his videos are stolen to the T from Chefs like Gordon Ramsay. This guy is a waste of space.
@hawkwinddave no you cant ,,its not the same it goes everywhere, the spinning forces the egg to congel in the middle.if you drop it in still it goes all wierd and rubbery
u know if u just put some vinegar in the water it hol the egg together when u put it in so u dont have to wisk ur water into a big vortex... lol... looked like fun tho..
This is exactly the correct way of poaching eggs at home...making the vortex in the middle of the water allows the egg whites when dropped, to wrap around the yolk, to make a cone shape, in the restaurant where I work, we get really busy for breakfast and people order poached eggs like crazy, so we just use a hotel pan with water and vinegar gently simmering, and they just drop the eggs directly in, so they can do up to 10 at a time.
2. You've made an statement that backs up your argument in no way.
3. I'm 14....my comment was submitted about 4 months ago.

Jesus Christ, you're twelve, you probably didn't understand half of what I've just said without using Google, cause your vocabulary isn't advanced enough yet. I think I've made my point clear enough here.
3. You're 14..... and you pointed out that you were 4 months older than when you last submitted your poached egg argument like you had matured since then in some way which was hilarious.
4. You don't know how to poach eggs at 14.
The only reason I ended up here was because I was looking for a new way to cook eggs and since I'm not American I thought poaching sounded interesting but I knew this already.
@tonyohnoyoudidnt Was it terrible? Isn't that a shame cause there's no mistakes or swearing in there.
I do know how to poach eggs, in fact I did long before I was 14, don't start telling me what I can or can't do. You haven't the slightest idea who I am. Also, the sad thing is that I'm not american either, so you've just made up my excuse for coming in here for me. Good day. ;)
@ilufffunnystuff Nobody said there was swearing in there, you misspelled because, forgot to put a period after atrocious, you used the word atrocious, you over did / misdid your hahaha's. Also I can tell you or anyone what they can or can't do whenever or however I want and there's absolutely nothing you can do about it to stop me.
@tonyohnoyoudidnt Excuse me, this was over 4 months ago. If you're going to argue the toss about my grammar, or the fact that's there is grown adults complaining about how to poach an egg, or the fact I'm 14, be my guest, cause I quite frankly couldn't give a fuck. Have a nice day. :)
@ilufffunnystuff you are wrong, there is a wrong way to poach an egg, you never put salt in the water if you wanna poach an egg you put vinegar in, I cant believe this guy is trying to teach us how to poach an egg and he puts salt in there????
@johnstonalligator Well cooking is all about preference basically. Like some people don't like vinegar, and prefer salt. Some people like their eggs scrambles as opposed to sunny side up. There's not really a "wrong" way to do it. If there was a wrong say to cook, then different recipes for open dishes wouldn't exist.
@Tyndallist You really dont get it do you, its not about taste preference its about cooking a poached egg with the egg white in a nice neat ball around the yolk, if you put salt in the water it causes the egg white to go thin and all over the place, if you put vinegar in the water it has a coagulating effect on the egg white and the result is a well cooked yolk wrapped in a nice firm well textured egg white. I hope you are not too proud to concede that putting salt in is the wrong method
@johnstonalligator Maybe you should've wrote that in your initial comment as opposed to yelling at an innocent person who didn't know. Also, lower your condescending voice. We're discussing how to poach an egg, not insult others who are trying to learn how. Old men like you really need to calm down over the smallest things.
@Tyndallist YOU ARE AN IDIOT! now I'm yelling and you are not an innocent person, your the one who got on your high horse in the first place and tried to be a you tube cop telling everyone how to comment. If people see that the presenter is giving incorrect information they have every right to inform the viewers. Not only do you need to calm down you also need to pull your head in and SHUT THE HELL UP! Thats yelling bitch ok, before I was not yelling you fat head school teacher
First, you don't use salt, you use vinegar because the acidity causes the white to coagulate faster; salt does the opposite. Second, you called it "boiling water". You would NEVER poach an egg in boiling water because it would overcook and be destroyed by the movement of the water. It should be barely simmering water. Finally, you spun the water waaaaay too fast. I guarantee the egg at the end was not the same egg he dropped in. Frankly, you don't even need to use the vortex method.
@ruslruslrusl wow you really did comment on here too???? FIRST YOU DONT USE SALT AND IM SUCH A EXPERT AT COOKING N HAVE NO FRIENDS AND WANT TO HATE ON YOU BECUZ I HAVE NOOOO LIFE.my name is ruslruslrusl stutering problem!!!!!
@MissLovaCris Hahahaha! So how does your malicious commenting and name calling make you a better person? Propagation of bad information is socially irresponsible. Boiling and simmering are very different states of water temperature and knowing the difference is vitally important to poaching. Vinegar works as a coagulant, salt does not. Good chefs thrive on criticism. As should all professions. Do you want your doctor going through med school without critique? Grow up dipshit.
@MissLovaCris Wow, you are unbelievably annoying and stupid. Doctors and chefs are both artists that work with their hands, and both require discipline in their art and critique to improve.
@ruslruslrusl Im so annoying your the one writing freaking long comments, and explaining something that still makes no sense on why your hating on him? He is doing what he loves, why can't you be a NICE critique? So rude you must feel good in the morning knowing that you hurt people feelings..Now tell me how does that make you a better person, When Im here defending them!
@MissLovaCris If you can't grasp the relationship between chefs, doctors, and other artists, there's no point in attempting to explain it further. Your brain is too feeble to understand the commonalities. Everything I've said makes perfect sense and is backed with logic and substantial knowledge. You just continue to argue blindly. Defending an invalid point is, well, pointless. Nice work. Keep being "nice", not rational. It will get you far in life. Now bag my groceries you tool.
@ruslruslrusl yeah id agree with u but i think what misslovacris meant was that ur being a smartass.
and u dont have to follow all the rules on cooking, someone who likes cooking experiments with his own ideas and tries new things, like an ARTIST as u said
@MissLovaCris You want a nice critique? Ok, here it is. Gee golly, I'm awful glad you took the time to make a video full of bad information. That was really nice of you. I appreciate it. You're such a sweetheart. Thanks a bunch. Hugs-n-kisses. Everyone is equal and valued. Aptitude testing is unfair. Handouts for the self-helpless. Liberalism or die. Gumdrops and rainbows and kittens and bunnies.
Just did it but I used a couple TBS of vinager instead of just salt. I will try the just salt way later. I swirled the water, not a malestrom like you did, and it worked just dandy. I plopped the egg in the center though and turned the heat up just under boiling and left the egg for 4 minutes and it was perfect. Hope that's "eye k-eye" ;-D
Thanks for this video, never tried making a poached egg by using the whirlpool method. It came out great, I also used wheat toast. Didn't have any garnishments, but it came out great.
Haven't tried it, but wonder what would happen if I tried two eggs at once? Maybe tomorrow I'll give it a go.
I tried swirling the water, but the egg only moved to the outside of the pan and still resulted in a disaster. Maybe I had the water too deep? Also, I tried cooking the egg for 3 minutes and the yolk was still runny. I like mine close to set. Like a medium cooked egg, just barely firm but kind of gel like. This way you still get the delicious yolk flavor without it running all over the place.
Nicko, you are an inspiration and a role model to us little people who dont have a clue in the kitchen. I have a question, do you turn off the heat after you put the egg in?
What about the second egg? Can you put 2 or more eggs in the one whirlpool? If not, do you use the same water with the leftover bits of egg white floating around or start with a new pan of fresh water. Meanwhile the first egg goes cold?
@ryan98099 still he is real good at cooking doesn't matter if your professional to me!

Landotter1 10 months ago
you waste a lot of egg white by this unnecessary swirling action.

i like your videos and everything, but seriously dude you talk to much about throwin an egg in boilin water =))

Nice vids Rob.

why in hell do you have to discuss kinds of eggs and kinds of breads,,,,,,get on with the recipe.

@wesawebi uuuh,,, huh huh huh, Like, the recipe is eggs and water, er something..... Settle-down, Bevis..... :-D

LostAndConfusedAngel 11 months ago

What about the second egg? Can you put 2 or more eggs in the one whirlpool? If not, do you use the same water with the leftover bits of egg white floating around or start with a new pan of fresh water. Meanwhile the first egg goes cold?
roberts16ify 1 year ago
@roberts16ify
I just used this method (it turned out amazingly) and for the second egg I used the same water, after taking the first egg out.

I've been watching several videos on poaching an egg, but I like this one a lot! I'm definitely going to try it this way :)

if you allow them to cook for longer, will the yolk be completely done? as in firm and intact as opposed to runny?

Nice looking egg, but I can do without the cheesy back ground music. Too long to point out the ingredients. Nice touch on no butter needed.
