I bought a 30gb iPod classic for only 50 bucks on eBay. Later the guy tells me the headphone jack is fucked up and doesn't play out of one side. Thanks for showing me how to do this, I found a bunch of new replacement headphone jacks online for only like 5-10$ but I'm so afraid of messing with the guts of it haha.
@BrocxMalaak iPod Videos are probably the easiest to fix because of the size of it, don't be afraid dude just be careful as you do it and get a small container for the screws they're tiny as hell!

This is unbelievable. Last week i got this link ipad2reward (dot) info from my friend. Normally i don't believe any of this shit. Just participate in some kind of iPad2 Test program and get iPad2 for free. The word "Free" doesn't really exist in this world. The day after i tried give my email their and joined the program. And you know what! A Brand New iPad2 is in my hand now. I can't really believe this. And you don't have to believe me. But 3 friends of mine even got that thing before me.
Friggin' Apple and that damn Genius Bar wouldn't fix my 4 year old Ipod 30g Video for me when I had a headphone jack issue... they told me to buy a new one or for 120 bucks I can give them my old one for a reconditioned one.
End result? I sold it since it still worked great, and bought 2 like new Zune 30gigs with that money.
oh man, this video is such a lifesaver. Thank you!! Also a helpful tip, for small screws, it can be really annoying to position the screws in place. If you have a small screwdriver that is metal, take a magnetic and stick it to the metal part of your screwdriver. Then touch the small screw you need and it'll stick magnetically. Helps tremendously with small screws.
hello,i have a problem with my ipod nano.my earphones are almost new and they work perfect when i tried em on my laptop,but on my ipod,i hear only "transformers voices" any tip how to fix it?i used different earphones,i had the same problem,but when i moved the wire in the jack,it worked.
I fixed mine without replacing the headphone jack. The plastic on the bottom of the jack that stick up shouldnt be that way. In my opinion it breaks the copper contact overtime and creates this problem. I fixed mine using a heatgun for 2 to 3 seconds and flattened that plastic and another 2 seconds when it's soft and flat to the back of the ipod .This will do the trick without having to remove those tiny screws..Good luck

My iPod headphone jack got repaired in the summer and guess what happens, the thing stops working and the bottom right corner of my screen lifts up when I put my iPod in, so basically is there another way other than breaking it open again and just ruining the shell, because the protective rubber rim is completely gone one the bottom side, the right side, and the upper side. This is nice for the steady hand,but a simple solution that generally works for most devices is to simply wrap aluminum foil around the headphone prong and insert it into the jack... The headphone jack would be broken anyway if this doesn't work.

i followed this and exploded my battery...make sure you dont apply too much pressure to your battery or you'll be stuck replacing a battery too which is much more expensive

@dramaticplastic2010: The iPod touch has a very similar layout, but you actually need an entirely different set of tools, as the process IS quite different. My advice - ignore the nerdy haters, and check out a different video.
The ipod Touch utilizes different cables and setup; if you open it you can see the headphone jack and where the cables run to so make a mental note of what you have to do once you get the cable.
You will need a ipod touch specific part, other than that it should be the same. There are ipod touch tutorials on youtube if you need further assistance.

I use a sewing pin bent slightly on the pointy end and shine a light down in the jack hole, locate the brass tabs that would contact your headphone plug, and get behind them with the pin and pry them outward just enough to make contact with the headphone jack again, there are 2 brass tabs that make contact with your headphone plug one is down in there and the other up toward the top of the headphone jack. be careful. that is a quick fix i have used successfully before.

i sent in my ipod touch to get fixed and4 fucking days later they send me an email saying it wasnt fixed because theyre gay and could not find the problem even though i explained it to them in the email in full details. they updated it to the latest fucking firmware to prevent me from jailbreaking it and are sending it back 3 days later itll hopefully arrive since its thursday and it takes 2 business days to ship by ups air. FUCK APPLE major companies fucking suck dick

i followed this and exploded my battery...make sure you dont apply too much pressure to your battery or you'll be stuck replacing a battery too which is much more expensive

I had never done this before watched the video and found it very easy to change the headphone jack. I powered up my IPOD after installing the unit and it worked great! Thanks for the clear video and close ups.

@dramaticplastic2010: The iPod touch has a very similar layout, but you actually need an entirely different set of tools, as the process IS quite different. My advice - ignore the nerdy haters, and check out a different video.

The ipod Touch utilizes different cables and setup; if you open it you can see the headphone jack and where the cables run to so make a mental note of what you have to do once you get the cable.
You will need a ipod touch specific part, other than that it should be the same. There are ipod touch tutorials on youtube if you need further assistance.

I use a sewing pin bent slightly on the pointy end and shine a light down in the jack hole, locate the brass tabs that would contact your headphone plug, and get behind them with the pin and pry them outward just enough to make contact with the headphone jack again, there are 2 brass tabs that make contact with your headphone plug one is down in there and the other up toward the top of the headphone jack. be careful. that is a quick fix i have used successfully before.

okay i bought some really nice headphone for my ipod but it suddenly started to play in only one ear and the headphones are brand new...so i had to buy another pair and now its doing the same thing T_T but iv had since 2005

@immortalmayhem425 You cant break em that easily trust me you have to be pretty fucking rough to break em at least what i think i use a fucking small swiss army knife to take the ribon cables out and pull the casing apart and what not and use a smallish screw driver and it works perfectly

I have figured a way to never change that cable again
I can repair the jack --as long as both side of the headphone jack dont go at the same time

Do you think this would fix the "ipod works fine but doesn't play sound through any headphones that are plugged in" problem? I'm assuming it's a problem with the jack. I just bought the thing off of craigslist for real cheap without being told it was broken. Thanks for anyone who replies!
