If they still did the G3 tour I would love to see the flecktones up on stage with satch and vai. yes i know it's not guitar it's banjo... but all the same. I know Vai would be having flashbacks to his Zappa days.
Liking the sharper tone on the banjo. Sounds a lot more like a rock piece. That counts off 9/8 by splitting 5/4 and 4/4. Okay, so it sounds like a very complex and intelligent rock piece.
did anyone see bela look at vic when he flubbed a little bit at like 1:30. vic was like wtf. He's sooooo fuckin good. i dont even deserve to write about him lol
are any fellow listeners out there able to pick up the chord progression from 1:15? the combination of rythm, chords, bela and wooten in that chord progression is 100% epicness in my ears!

In my book, these guys are the best live band of all time. They play with the same unbelievable intensity for hours, and afterward hang out and talk to you like real human beings.
@generativemusic - totally. Bela is one of the nicest guys I have ever met. It was in Princeton in like 2008 probably. he talked music theory for a bit. AND THEY PLAYED THIS TUNE!!! I was absolutely blown away. The Keswick show yesterday was amazing as well.
I'm kinda tierd of everybody praising how good victor wooten is. I mean, he is truely amazing, but nobody seems to give Bela Fleck any credit. Bela Fleck is just as good if not better then vic wooten. But dont get be wrong victor wooten still kicks ass.
I dont think it's that at all. It's just that bass is a sexier instrument than banjo, and there are more bassists than there are banjoists (i call them banjokas). Unfortunately, the banjo players I do know are snobs and don't regard Bela very highly. :(
Respectfully, I think it's because the majority of Wooten fans are bassists. If you show any banjo player a Bela Fleck vid, they'll go nuts, likewise with Wooten's works. No doubt, Bela Fleck is amazing, but I can't exactly relate to his playing as I can with Victor's, as I'm a bassist, not a banjo player. Again though, I think both are incredible musicians...
It's Futureman you should think about, do you hear much regarding him? Heh
It's tough enough to play that damn jazzy sequence on this song.. Victor makes it even more impossible for us normal humans to play by adding in the rooted bass notes to it. Incredible!
Ive been watching Victor Wooten, both live an listening to albums for about 3 years now. And he is simply THE greatest base-player i know. I mean, come on... that eighthand tapping at 4:35 should not be possible, even for him... AND HE DOES IT!!
That audience is full of haters or idiots. Victor Wooten's Stanley Jordan styling on that song is one of the most complicated things I've ever witnessed. It's been almost 15 years since I've heard this track off Live Art. Amazing!
i had a suspition he played both parts at once from listening to live art , but i had my doughs . this confirms it . truly the greatest bass blayer ever

This is my favorite song from that album.
I've got this one reverse-composed & have some of it down on bass.
I didn't realize that Wooten played all those parts,. I thought is was a separate guitarist.
also, they play an odd version of 9/8. Usually 9/8 is 3/4 in triplets, but they play it 5/8 +4/8
