If you had 24 voice modules, soldered the power supplies and input/outputs together, wired the playback switches to piano keys, you could theoretically make a crude mellotron (if you recorded a note per module)

Wow i love it, really inspired me to make one also :D Ordered some 4$ voice recorders _O_ What do you use? Microcontroler or cmos stuff?

The sequencer is all basic electronics no microcontroller. Funny enough I did end up using an arduino to make the tempo controller which seems like overkill.

The sequencer uses 10 keychain voice recorders that get switched on by a 4017 divider that is hooked to a 555 timer. A transistor just closes the play switches. I unfortunately don't have the latest schematics.

It's really bad with bass sounds just because of the chips, that's why the example is all falsetto.

cool video ive got the same setup but I'm trying to instead of having continuious sound trigger the play button on and off via transistor switches then have 10 seperate pitch pots to say 4 voice recorders so i can make sequenced bass lines or drum loops any advice?

These were very low record quality so you can't get any real low bass sounds which was kind of disappointing. If you want to do bass line stuff I would spend time finding cheap recorders that are capable of the lower frequencies. Let me know if you find some. I only enjoyed hearing high-pitched harmonies coming out of these.

One obvious thing I learned was don't go crazy with the buttons/ knobs if unnecessary or you'll be in it for days working out the wiring...

yeah when I get a chance I will put up some more pics and the basic schematic I used. The core of it is a 555 and a 4017 chip, these chips then trigger these little voice recorders that I bought for really cheap. The most annoying part was the great amount of wiring and the traces. I'll definitely go to pcbexpress next time.
