@DarkSonic24 I really like this game, and I don't know any friends who have anything against it. We all mostly dislike the voice acting, the glitches and the loading times. But if we look past that, we'll have a good time.
P.S: If you ever try the multiplayer out, make sure to pick Sonic or Shadow! If you pick Silver, you'll have a hard time keeping up with the other player.
I've never played this game (I may pick it up one time to see what it's like) but if this game was made to fix all the problems the past 3D sonic games had, it should have done this: Make the levels open to give a sense of exploration but still make the objective to get from A to B. They also shouldn't have made a confusing story, they ought to have kept it simple but, if need be, gripping. also, the levels shouldn't have been bland and dingy. Sonic levels should be bright and colourful.
did you know the music "exception" was from the end of sonic2? it would have been good if it wasnt bad. same for the overall game. If it didnt suck, it would have been awesome.

I would request a remake of this game under the name: "Sonic the Hedgehog: Deluxe". It would have 3-second loading screens, no glitches, and pretty much have everything it should've had. I know what it is. Sonic Genesis was a rushed port of the original Sonic the Hedgehog onto the Gameboy Advance, a system that was *more powerful* than the SEGA Genesis. The end result had an extremely zoomed in camera, tons of slowdown, awful sound, and sub par visuals. I never bothered playing it, and I never will; I already have Sonic 1, so I don't see the point. This game is still shit despite that though. Probably even worse.

Even though I agree the game was terrible at many aspects, the music hooked me in. So if your a music whore like me it's probably decent at best. @DarkSonic24 No it doesn't. This game is actually one of the more frequently played Sonic games that I have. The only other one that I play a bit more is Sonic Adventure. This game really is like another Sonic Adventure game, it just needs some refining and it would be one of the greatest Sonic games ever, which is why I hope that Sonic Team remakes this game someday they way that they wanted to before they were forced to rush it.
I really don't think Heroes, Shadow, or the parts of the Adventure series that weren't Sonic or Shadow (or Tails in SA1) should count as some of "the best Sonic games". >>

for the town missions I got so frustrated with the loading screens that I actually grabbed a stopwatch out of my closet. After you fail a mission, it takes a total of four loading screens with just about 1 line of dialogue between each one. From mission failed to restarting the mission the game takes 1 minute and 20 seconds... yes, that's 1 minute and 20 seconds to simply restart a stupid mini game that can take you many tries if you don't know what you're doing.
as to this particular game... i kinda like the sonic stages, but the res tof the game can be boring to say the least. the thing is i feel really sorry for the game as i think it had tons of potential, it could have been a great game if it wasn't rushed to the market as it was. it's full of bugs and the stages managed to be more broken that SA1, and that's something.
Your complaints about SA2 knuckles makes me think you were just not good at SA2, as both him and rouge were easy to control and played pretty well in my book.

It's not my fault you started the entire argument by saying I was merely bad at the game when I never complained about their controls to begin with. If you're going to call them good, at least come up with valid reasons because in reality there were plenty of factors (broken camera, broken radar system, needlessly enormous stages, terrible music, etc.) that could completely kill the game for many other people. Watching grass grow is more interesting than those levels... imo.

I don't see what the issue is with knuckle's stages. I mean they essentially play like a sonic stage except they're less linear, they can still be relatively fast paced though. Most being able to be beaten in less than 3 minutes.

Knuckles' stages were nothing like Sonic's. At all.
Also, even though I thought Sonic's gameplay was great in SA1 and good in SA2, I can still admit the camera was shit. It constantly gets caught on walls and you can't move it up or down. It's bearable in Sonic's stages, but when you're spending the level hunting, you need to be able to see.

Faster?! Hell no, he moved waaay faster in SA2. Yeah the stages were huge in some cases but i don't see that as a bad thing, that only adds replay value to the whole thing.
@DarkSonic24 on that specific point i agree with you, that tendency to drag on it's the only thing of negative i find in the whole game. the sonic stages are the best thing there ever was and if this first two stages are kinda linear, the other ones offer many paths, some more obvious and easy to notice than others.
the shooting stages are really good in my opinion but they suffer from that same problem as the hunting stages, they are long. apart from that, i find the game perfect for its time

Shadow's story was... easier than Sonic's
somehow, I got an S Rank on every stage from Crisis City on (except for Radical Train)
I haven't played Silver's yet, but I enjoyed Shadow more than Sonic
God.... I actually started playing this game, because I wanted to find a Sonic game, worse than Sonic Adventure 2
But so far... it's better

@DarkSonic24 Good review but to me this game is decent at most probably i rarely faced any glitches and the controls worked for me. Even though I agree the game was terrible at many aspects, the music hooked me in. So if your a music whore like me it's probably decent at best. Other gamers rent if you want to try but any way dude good review but at times it felt a little unfair don't know why since you were on point.

@DarkSonic24 No it doesn't. This game is actually one of the more frequently played Sonic games that I have. The only other one that I play a bit more is Sonic Adventure. This game really is like another Sonic Adventure game, it just needs some refining and it would be one of the greatest Sonic games ever, which is why I hope that Sonic Team remakes this game someday they way that they wanted to before they were forced to rush it.

aND darksonic you were reviewing this in 2010, the game came out in early 2006.. soo no need to rank about the graphics.it was great back in 2006 when xbox was nearly new.. but i do agree about the cutscness..its like the adventure series cutscnese and bad lip syncing.but remeber,this game was rushed b/c the due date..but hey did lie cuz the trailers made it look goood but the game was atleast 6.5/10 in my oponion..but i find shadpws gameplay kinda fun..but rouge was tremedous bulshit!!!

for the town missions I got so frustrated with the loading screens that I actually grabbed a stopwatch out of my closet. After you fail a mission, it takes a total of four loading screens with just about 1 line of dialogue between each one. From mission failed to restarting the mission the game takes 1 minute and 20 seconds... yes, that's 1 minute and 20 seconds to simply restart a stupid mini game that can take you many tries if you don't know what you're doing.

as to this particular game... i kinda like the sonic stages, but the res tof the game can be boring to say the least. the thing is i feel really sorry for the game as i think it had tons of potential, it could have been a great game if it wasn't rushed to the market as it was. it's full of bugs and the stages managed to be more broken that SA1, and that's something.
the music was effin' epic, though.

It's not my fault you started the entire argument by saying I was merely bad at the game when I never complained about their controls to begin with. If you're going to call them good, at least come up with valid reasons because in reality there were plenty of factors (broken camera, broken radar system, needlessly enormous stages, terrible music, etc.) that could completely kill the game for many other people. Watching grass grow is more interesting than those levels... imo.

I don't see what the issue is with knuckle's stages. I mean they essentially play like a sonic stage except they're less linear, they can still be relatively fast paced though. Most being able to be beaten in less than 3 minutes.

Knuckles' stages were nothing like Sonic's. At all.
Also, even though I thought Sonic's gameplay was great in SA1 and good in SA2, I can still admit the camera was shit. It constantly gets caught on walls and you can't move it up or down. It's bearable in Sonic's stages, but when you're spending the level hunting, you need to be able to see.

And unless you count the new amazingly clever hint system added and the redefined (and much more fair you ask me) radar... it's exactly the same gameplay...
and the music... gosh i can even understand people don't like Rap (and i hate too) but the songs were actualyy fucking great in my opinion,

Faster?! Hell no, he moved waaay faster in SA2. Yeah the stages were huge in some cases but i don't see that as a bad thing, that only adds replay value to the whole thing.

Exactly, and thank god for that. Flying around with no purpose was so boring in SA2. At least in SA1 I knew where I was supposed to be going.
SA1 - "This way!" *Done with the level* "Hey, that wasn't too bad!"
SA2 - "Between two skulls? I'm in Pumpkin Hill!" *Five minutes later* "FINALLY DONE WITH THAT SHIT."
SA1 was more bearable because it didn't drag on as long. End of story.

@DarkSonic24 on that specific point i agree with you, that tendency to drag on it's the only thing of negative i find in the whole game. the sonic stages are the best thing there ever was and if this first two stages are kinda linear, the other ones offer many paths, some more obvious and easy to notice than others.
the shooting stages are really good in my opinion but they suffer from that same problem as the hunting stages, they are long. apart from that, i find the game perfect for its time

Problem is, there are times when Knuckles levels drag on for upwards of twenty minutes, and it isn't fun at all for any of them.
Same problem with Tails, they take five minutes, but none of those minutes are fun.
For that reason, I only like Sonic and Shadow's levels, and since those are only 1/3 of the game, I absolutely hate the game.
