There is no reason why everything needs to be in english. Just accept that there are other, mostly more develped, cultures then the young US "culture"....
Now I havent practiced my german in aproxly 16 years, and only had it at school for 1 year also....but hopefully I will find time to get back into it.
Afterall Norwegian (I'm a norwegian:P) is far more similiar to the german language than the english.
