  • smell it!

  • Thats exactly what once happened to me! I had an IBM hard drive and I noticed that the controller chip was getting very hot and one day this is what happened!

  • could be a maxtor?

  • thats a short on the board

  • Its a maxtor, haha I had same problem they suck ass glad seagate brought them out

  • That happened to one of my old sony floppy drives! :o

  • Lol, that meant that the motor's speed controller was under a load (hence the burning) and it couldnt get the disk spinning. the motor probably went.

  • i once had a free wdc 40 gb... labeled "flaky" by a tech.... it was connected, threw sparks upon power up, and took out another hard drive

  • ya know maxtor is undoubtedly the worst type of hard disk ever made

  • ha hi isnt DOOM! i had a drvie literally explode INSIDE my pc case and it was laying on the backwa;; and it blew a hole in the side of my case and sent shrapnell into the side of myy wall and cats legg.

  • I don't think that's supposed to happend ^^

  • How much GB of porn did he loose?

  • I bet that's a Maxtor drive, they're notorious for getting hot and failing.

  • Its a protal to another dimension

  • stop smokin it and get back to work ... n...

  • i did this with 60 volts directly to the ics and everything exploded

  • well thats yall problem right dar you done got yur self a bad compooter stomach

  • actually the hard drive data is fine. thats a tvs chip there that prevents the hard drive from data damge if there is a spike in the voltage

  • haha XXXDDD 0:23 - 0:27 lololololol

  • you took too much volts :D

  • that happened to my 1.5tb hard drive!

  • if it is a Maxtor, then it is normal... same shit happend to me

  • Maxtor and death motor chip!

  • I had a Western Digital WD800 80GB Hard Drive and I put the power connection backwards accidently then goes the spark, it scared the crap out of me. It came from the SMOOTH chipset under the hard drive. Its the same size as the one on this video.

  • @BV93630360JUAN just the problem with your comment there is that its impossible to insert neither molex nor sata cables other way around.

  • @lhtrf - i was just about to say the same thing lol. u beat me to the draw . U WIN

  • @lhtrf He found a way...

  • I think the drive was still running when it was burning D:

  • It can't work, because engine havent voltage or this voltage is too smal (burning chip)

  • why it's only one spot of the chip glowing and not the whole thing?

  • Hard drive smoke, dont breath this!

  • wow the moment you plugged it in it started to burn

  • ...STINKY,,,, LOLOLOLOL

  • Careful you don't in hale that plastic.

  • I've had three 200GB Maxtor drives die in a row, one WD Raptor 146GB. The Seagate Barracuda drives are OK, I've got a bunch 120GB drives in my Torrent box (ancient Dell Precision 410) and that's been on for years, more or less, continuously reading and writing.

  • Hard Drive of DOOM LMAO !!! LOLOLOLOL

  • red ring of death lol

  • hmm... I think that could be the problem... Just a guess though =)

  • Lulz this happend to mine when i stopped working i unplugged it and put it back in and tons of smoke came out of my computer lol

  • Somebody won't get his data back anymore!

  • Jupiter, you can take the HDD into data recover specialists to get the data back, it costs a lot though. As long as the disk is intact, your data is recoverable.

Anywho, I've had a mouse begin to burn up on me. :P - A cheapo eMachines one. It was very... awkward, my mouse started getting very hot. xP

  • for a sec I thought it was a led ... :) .... the smoke made it clear it wasn't......ah, I just remembered. I touched one back in the days ....there was no glow to warn me.

  • EPIC FORMAT :P

  • I replaced an client HD with the same problem in my work...

  • its giving you the evil eye ^^

  • evil eye and evil laugh.."it's burning.. burning"

    LMAO xD

  • you could make your dinner on that XD

  • i hope thats a seagate, i have one, bought 2 months ago, yesterday it had a headcrash, seagate is good but mine was a piece of shit, BURN shit-gate BUUUURN

  • Yeah i hate seagates too there junk quality!!! If your gonig to do something right do it with a Western Digital no other brand can beat them.

  • no its more like "i hope thats a maxtor, i have one, bought 2 months ago, yesterday it had a headcrash, seagate is good but maxtor is a piece of shit, BURN crap-stor BUUUURN"

    what, i like seagate :/

  • burning.....buuuurning.........stinky

  • = = "maxtor, made to be fried..."

  • Don't worry, just mount a 1,000-gallon liquid nitrogen cooling system to it and it will work just fine!

  • this is cool!

  • All electronic devices work on the same principle... they have magic smoke in them.

If they get damaged or you apply too much voltage to them, this lets out the magic smoke, and they stop working.

  • So THAT'S why my computer stopped working! I thought it was the fire, but the SMOKE was the real cause!

  • haha, yes exactly!

  • Also, it may be worth noting that this magic smoke has a distinctive blue colour usually, so you'll know when it's the magic smoke getting out rather than juts regular smoke. xD

  • @v16050118130114 GENIUS!

  • BURNING BURNING STINKY

  • cool

  • I did that once to a old 2.5gb quantum bigfoot. Well worth it, except i took a 24v dc battery charger to it, just touched individual traces and stuff, see if there was a connection and see what would burn.

  • well theres youre problum

  • maxtors are like fucking toasters u can cook eggs on mine if u want :D

  • burning,burning hahahaha funny!!!!!5 stars

(if it isn't western digital THEN BURN FUCKIN HARD DRIVE!!!!!)

  • The controller CPU fried. I had that happen to a chipset once.

  • Serious quality control flaws. Which brand/model/year was that?

  • I had the same thing happend to me my HD was a Seagate Barracudas 120GB 2006

  • Just needs a heatsink. ;)

  • HA! nice..heatsink on a hdd..wow, little things like dat usually dont make me laugh, but that just made my day. thank you. =]

  • That wouldn't be an old Maxtor Fireball at all?

They had a reputation for literally becoming a "Fireball" due to overcurrent in one of their transistors.

  • You mean Crapstor?

  • they are good but u need a hdd cooler i got1 it runs just over 30 degrees

  • I've had 3 of them stuff up on me, all the same problem :(, (that problem)

  • quantum made the fireball, not maxtor

  • I bet those fumes were toxic

  • LoL!

  • that doenst look good

  • Aahaaahaah bURRNING BURNING sTINKY xd ahaahahhaaaha

  • Now that's what I call a motor driver failure lol.

  • i've seen a hard drive do this before... it sucks when its your 200gb hdd doing it! but it was a maxtor (junk in my book) hard drives are cheap so i got a new one off tigerdirect. i was still able to recover my data thank goodness.

  • Gotta love those maxtors

  • is that a laser? lol

  • its a Maxtor, and thats the motor coltroller chip burning

  • was that a maxtor? mine did that...

    screw maxtor

  • Well that sucks, an expensive heater if you ask me...

  • Had that once with a Maxtor 6Y120LO. I didn't do anything wrong but it began to smoke. I had to buy another drive to switch the mainboards to make it operate again.

  • that is a wd disk I think... I had one failin g at a similar fashon

  • Do you know why the hell it did that?! I think something was shorting it...

  • at least it won't pop up inm ur face...

  • junky maxtor

  • try not to sniff the smoke its bad for you
