Trans Am's didnt come with big blocks. Even though the 455 has big block numbers it is still a small block. Every Pontiac motor is a small block

Calling a Pontiac a big or small block is incorrect. All Pontiacs used the same size, rather large for what is is worth, block. GM and Ford used two different sized blocks for their various engines.

The exception being the 301 engine that was put in late model cars. This block was actually smaller that the rest of their engines, but was so insignificant from a performance and production standpoint they are really not considered.
