  • We should not forget, what this mama Stand for. She stood for nature, her people, and Africa. She was killed bcus she was about winning the European on her reparations case. She is not alone, Abiola of the yoruba people in west Africa, Malcom X in America and many other unknown ancestors were all killed bcus they demanded for reparation.

If you truly an African and love Africa carry this message everyday in your heart.

Mama Wangari Maathai, lives forever and bring your killers to ruin..

Mama Wangari Maathai, lives forever and bring your killers to their ruin..

  • I was honored to meet Wangari Maathai in 2006, take a photo with her during her trip to Boston and learn more about her important work. She was a visionary champion who fought an uphill battle against powerful political forces who opposed her leadership. She won on many fronts and proved that women can lead in the fight to save the environment. May God bless her soul, and may she rest in peace.

  • May God give us another one like her, I still cannot believe that she is dead.

  • u r a hero n always will b R.I.P daughter of Zion.

  • Rest in peace MAMA.How you stomped where men couldn't tip toe,how you shouted where men couldn't whisper.I won't shed a tear though my eyes are welling. But i will celebrate your life and strife to emulate your courage to stand up for the down trodden and what is right.HABA KALE MAMA.

  • i can't stop shedding tears, i loved this woman, was so looking forward to seeing her this wednesday at the University of Nebraska this wednesday but her talk was cancelled and no explanation offered. Mama you fought hard for our rights as women and for our future generations. now go rest. Your name will never be forgotten. To all kenya male politicians who harrassed this woman may you get whats coming your way.

  • i love the way Rita said "Daniel moi govt" with no title ati president!

  • One thing is for certain. Moi was always on the "wrong side" of history.

  • If tears could build a stairway,

    And memories a lane,

I’d walk right up to heaven

And bring you home again.I loved you Prof. Wangari Maathai. May GOD rest your soul in everlasting peace.

  • RIP mama!..you be missed greatly!..

  • RIP namesake ...you were an inspiration to many.you may have gone early but you had done so much.you will be remembered for generations to come.you truly lived up to the wangari name

  • @benadede-Thats some deep cutting truth and an indictment of kenyan society.

  • It's a sad day for courageous fighters the world over. For every Wangari Maathai, Robert Ouko, JM Kariuki and Tom Mboya, we have had 200K Murugis, Sonkos, Waititus, Gumos and other muppets and hooligans who now lead the country. If we could have the wisdom to pick and choose our leaders more carefully.... [sigh...]

  • Rest in Peace Mama Wangai. You did good. You leave us a legacy we can all be proud of.

  • Her beautiful smile is so infectious!! RIP mama Africa!!

  • What a great leader and woman. I don't think we have lost you but I think we have just given birth to the dream of many more to follow in your trail of persistance and stanidng for what we know is right no matter what. And she was quite well educated so whatever we try to do, make sure you have a good knowledge and not just be like the rest.

Thanks Martha we LOVE YOU SO MUCH!

  • proud of our great sister, may she rest in peace

  • wake up kenya, you had a chance in Maathai (may she rest in peace), im not sure you'll ever come this close again to luck

  • Respected the world over but not at home. This must have broken her heart. I'm just so sad today!

  • Misplaced priorities by Kenyan voters: (i) in 1997 we denied Maathai an opportunity to become president and MP because she did not tow the line of our ethnic agenda, (ii) in 2003 we voted her in as MP of Tetu because she was on the "right" ethnic ticket, (iii) in 2007, we punished her for not being loyal enough to our ethnic agenda. Yet all along we knew she had more moral character and fortitude in her little finger than the rest of the presidential candidates we have ever had put together!

  • Sad day for the country and indeed the whole world. May she rest in Peace and thank you for all you have done for the fights you have fought to help us better understand nature and how to interact with it to foster our survival in the unforgiving climate of Africa. We will miss you BIG. But know this, the fight goes on, the dream lives on, you have done your part...now it is our turn...
