  • may the spirit of this kinda music live in our hearts forever

  • I had the prevelege to see the Glenn Miller Orchestra in California when I was in the Air Force in 1965. I also like the Glenn Miller Story. Oh Tex Beneke was conducter

  • As Good a Patriotic tune as there is. Right up there with Victory at Sea, and J.P. Sousa. If that doesn't light your fire, your wood is wet. God Save America!

  • As Good a Pariotic tune as there is. Right up there with Victory at Sea, and J.P. Sousa. If that doesn't light your fire, your wood is wet. God Save America!

  • the 2 mother fuckers that disliked are garbage ...

  • Noboby swing's and gruve's like this, NOBODY!

  • GREAT! FANTASTIC TREMENDO! DOES NOT GET ANY BETTER!

  • how do you get that sound out of the saxes at 1:47

  • @tptman001 Practice man, PRACTICE!

  • sau geile Big Band

  • Another great song by a great band! This song was written by Captain Glenn Miller as a tribute march. Seems the recruits hated the mundane march music so Miller gave em something to march to with fun lol.

  • @TheCahoonzie American Patrpl was written by F.W. Meacham in 1885 and was copywrited in 1891. It was made popular by John Phillips Souza near the turn of the twentyith century Get your fact's right DIP SHIT!

  • We always played it much faster than this? Maybe we were wrong. lol

  • @spiffydude16 Listen to the origonal recording that Glenn made. It is at the same (or close to the same) tempo. A lot of modern swing bands that cover his arraingments speed up the tempo, and to me that ruins the tune.

  • Maravilhoso. Excelente interpretação. Tão gloriosa quanto a saudosa composição.

  • I played this song in band class in 7th grade at a veterans day assembly.

  • i have my own dance to in the mood:p

  • @PegacornLvr me too it's called soulja boy

  • My Mum and Dad both 76 love this music, and I was brought up listening to it , Love the BIG BAND sound theres nothing like it , dont get me wrong the modern music has its thing , but this beats it all, Its Just a shame Glenn didnt get to find out what a hit his music has been over the years

  • I guess I just have a broad taste in music, because my next stop from here is gonna be "Waiting for the End" by Linkin Park. I also like metal, some pop, and occasionally some country, in addition to the occasional jazz and orchestra. Does that make me so weird?

  • @nickthestick26 Doesn't make you weird at all, I listen to most genres of music aswell, the broader your musical taste is the more you can appreciate music as a whole.

  • 0:54 Pianist scratches his nose. :)

  • I listen to this everyday. I also play it every chance I get.

  • I'm 13 and In the mood is my favorite song in the world, i love glenn miller with all my heart, and jazz is basically ALL i listen too.

    beat that @shangas!

  • @PegacornLvr I think your great to like this music. I'm 67 and I've listened to it since I was 18. I always felt I missed a great era of music. Thank God for You Tube !!!!!!!!

  • 2:28 is amazing

  • 14 here, soon to be 15. I play jazz every day at 7:30 A.M., and I must say, it's a helluva wonderful thing to wake up to.

  • They smoked Lucky Strikes & Camels, they fired M1's. BAR's and Bazookas, they flew P-38's. 47's 51's B 17's B26's & B24's, they fought in tropic malarial jungles & wet & frigid northern climes and when they were done we were safe and a lot of evil was destroyed. God Bless 'em all!!!

  • @SURFLANT This son of a WW2 pacific theater soldier salutes you. My pop did indeed carry a BAR as a fresh eighteen year old and did his job well. I bought an original BAR to have and remember him by and let me tell you it's a truly incredible weapon. Makes you truly appreciate Browning's genius. They truly are the greatest American generation without question.

  • @SURFLANT

    One word: Amen!

  • This is the kind of music that kept the men and women, home and abroad, going thru those horrible times. They are the people that made this country great. This music will never disappear,if only for that reason, and rightfully so.If you ever have the chance to sit and talk to some of them, consider it an honor. The history that they have seen, and made,is our legacy to protect.

  • I have listen to all the other bands trying to do the little brown jug and none of them came even close, this the only band that dose glenn miller proud. i was brought up on glenn miller by my father bless his soul. well done

  • I have listen to all the other bands trying to do the little brown jug and none of them cae even close, this the only band that dose glenn miller proud. well done

  • *ahem* I CANT HEAR THE BRASS AT ALL!

  • they say that rock and roll will never die true but neither will this music my fave of the glen miller and his orchestra jimandot

  • cute bari.... not really sure that she would have played it in the 40's.... but shes good

  • I'm 15 and this is pretty much all I listen to. Especially this song.

  • @4501SOUTHERN

14 here, and I play and hear jazz every day, and I love it.

  • this is one of my favorites for the sax

    GO GLENN .M

  • absolutely epic

  • On a party back in the 80's I got tired of the others so me and a friend we sneaked up to the father of the house and we asked him to play him some Glen Miller. After that the party was good.

  • the two people who didn't like this are lacking a heart.

  • Who is The Pianist ?

  • Hermosisimo!!!! Adoro la música de Glenn Miller.

  • IM 14 AND IM LIKE U BRO I LISTEN TO THE 1950s AND BACK :) YAY

  • love the dynamics on the solo at 2:30

  • I remember as a kid asking my old man how Glenn Miller died. He responded, "He`s not dead, he`s still missing in action..."

  • @Kharkovkid That is the best answer to that question I've ever read.

  • @Shangas lol that made me laugh so much

  • @Kharkovkid it's funny actually because thats true! So technically he may never be legally dead!

  • We played this song in 7th grade band!! It's awesome :)

  • I grew up in the 1950's and had this record on a "78" and listened to it DAILY!!!

PS: My son's name is Glenn David Miller.

  • I'm 15 and I play trumpet myself. I have to say, these are great songs from 1950. But I can't find any notes. Could anyone say me please, where I can get the notes for this wonderful song. Thanks

  • @Brian1702 First, this and other songs by Miller are from the 1940's but, try this Brian, put this, (american patrol sheet music) in the "search box". The one at the Frank W. Meacham link is free.

  • doesn't matter how old you are...good music is good music

  • This is excellent - need to practice my tenor sax! :) I like that the bassist is using an upright - I think they sound a lot better than electric in a band like this.

  • Just love this piece so much and always well done by this great band

  • Grand Sound

  • へたすぎ・・・

  • I like the charlie circus version better, kidding ^^

  • Awesome! Glenn Miller would be proud!

  • @thefutureisnow He would indeed! Good to see and hear someone keeping him alive through his music!!

  • @ferdberffle I listen to the soundtrack from The Glenn Miller Story everytime I take the train to school.

  • It's hard to see how anybody could play this piece better than this.

  • @bsam20uk Iv'e seen a lot better then that....

  • Great Song, Great quality! Thanks!!

  • great great music love the drummer so relaxed

  • One of my favorites. =D

  • I like the brass accents starting at 3:18.

  • I like the tone of the clarinet along with the saxes.

  • that's all saxes...isn't a clarinet in that group..unless you'd like to point the clarinet out for me.

  • Wow you think you know all about big band music. I should know there is a clarinet as it is the ritual aspect of this piece. It is obvious there is one at 1:10. The man next to the female saxist is placing down the clarinet as his part of the song was over starting from 1:00 to 1:11. He switches back to sax. Funny how people just judge when they probably dont even listen to this piece of music religiously.

  • Wow...I listened to it like...once.. and I heard it, I think you just have bad ears. Your rude man.

  • And the dude is holding it at 2:35...xD

  • of course there is a clarinet, it's glenn fucking miller. that's his band's trademark sound.

  • jvrunst:

The gentleman sitting dead center of the frame at 2:35, as Torcova pointed out below me, actually.

  • you know that's the glenn miller sound, right?

  • Esto es una verdadera BIG BAND!!!deberían aprender los cantantetes de México yeah!!!

  • gotta love that swing. :D

    this makes me happy.

..in fact....all of Glenn Miller's stuff does.

R.I.P., Mr. Miller....jazz will live forever because of you, and people will be listening to your music long after the original vinyl recordings disentigrate from old age.

  • great!!

  • best style ever, im 13 i play tenor and alto and this is probably the only style of music i'll ever want to learn.

  • Ahh...now THIS is music. I'd listen to this over ANYTHING out today, and lest you think I'm some old guy. I'm only 28, and I've been listening to stuff like the Glenn Miller Orchestra, Benny Goodman and the like since I was in elementary school.

  • I played Glenn Miller to death when I was in the 1AD Division in Germany. The German's loved this music. I love it too it's full of life.

  • I'm 22. I listen to nothing more recent than the 1950s.

  • @Shangas it's a shame, this is great music, but you'll miss lots of great stuff too: search for 'new cool collective perry'

  • @Shangas today's music makes people stupid. =)

  • @CommanderOtto Sadly that's very true. One look at Justin Bieber confirms that. And he can't even sing. Every Youtube Video of his here is either "OMFG HE'S HAWT!" or "OMFG HE SUCKS!"

There's not a single comment that goes: "OMFG HE CAN SING!"

  • @CommanderOtto death metal?!? wtf!

  • @Shangas by the way that just means your close minded, there still is classical music today, so stop trying to send a message, cuz ur not cool.

  • @EmulatorDX Yes I am. Very much so. And you can't deny it. And neither can you prove that I am not.

  • @Shangas what´s about the beatles?

  • @Shangas what´s about the beatles?

  • i wish the clarinet was a little bit louder.. but its still cool

  • best ever

  • I spent June 2004 in Normandy -- and other points in western Europe -- for the 60th anniversary of the D-Day landings. There was a lot of Glenn Miller's music, especially during the evening functions for the veterans in attendance.

    Takes you back.
