A podiatrist works, but for me, it's all about saving money and not feeling those dreaded novocaine shots. In America, at least in the southern section of Pennsylvania where I live, such a surgery cost 400 bucks. It was a mistake that I won't make again. The shots were brutal too. Well, at least your toe is better. I can't stand seeing anyone in that kind of pain. Just two hours ago I got out of the shower, clipped mine away, wiped the blood, and it looks good.

You took care of half the problem by peeling the skin. You need to peel the rest of it, including the white flakey sections located around the swollen area, and then take some Pro Ingrown Nail Nippers (available for purchase on amazon) and cut away 20% of your toenail and trim all the way down. Now peel any remains, and the next day if the swelling continues, keep peeling the skin. I can't stress this enough. Peel the skin. We have the same exact issue on our toes so I know my advice works.

umm.. get off the toenail and check if its some crap like stuff from a sock, i was at the hospital today and did that, it was some crap from my sock and my toenail that make my toe infection, now i can't walk so much at 2 days and im going back to hospital and check if it worked, if it not worked, the doctor have to check more inside my toe ... Anyone with an ingrown toenail needs to become best friends with Tea Tree Oil. But here is a hint, never never remove the scab. The tea tree oil will help the infected skin heal up, by killing the infection and scabbing up the extra skin. The extra growth of skin is a phenomenon associated with the problem but never never peal it off, let it scab and come off by itself. The oil will kill the invection, Melaleuca alterfernolia, Tea Tree Oil.

@Dancerizaition I'm talking about soaking with cotton soaked tea tree oil. You need to penetrate the skin, let the oil get down between the nail and skin. Soak for days. The skin will get like a prune and then when that dries yes, it's hard, but soaking for a few days, clean cotton regularly should knock out the infection and stop the pain. My experience anyway.

That happens when you try to pull it off yourself, after you remove the nail it comes back even worse then. What you have to do is soak your infected toe in warm salt water about 3 times a day and it will go away, if it is as bad as hers than you need to see a specialist. BUTE NEVER REMOVE YOUR INGROWN TOE NAIL WITH NAIL CLIPPERS!!

It looks like your big toes are turned towards your other toes, which means your shoes are too tight at the toe. It seems you have had it sine fixed, but it looks really bad in the video. I just had mine done and the shot hurt more than anything, but Id rather that shot pain than the pain from the toe nail and the infection. Feet are generally much more likely to get infections because of bacteria growth inside our socks and shoes, plus its dark and damp and warm.

It's your shoes your wearing however your wearing them is making your big toe curv to the right. Mine curved to the left. If you have an arch in your foot make sure you get a foot support in your shoes and make sure the shoes are tightened. If you don't have the arch support and your shoes aren't tightened it makes your toe move in one direction while your toenail wants to grown straight. The main cause of ingrown toenails is your shoes and foot placement.

Okay seriously, the surgery does not hurt at all. I was looking away and whenever I felt the rubbing on my toe, the podiatrist said she was only swabbing it, but in reality she was removing the nail..I didn't even feel a thing! :D

@Catchadragonfly The first time I had it, it hurt so bad that I got the anaesthetic needle (which hurt a LOT, but not nearly as bad as when they were trying to cut without it). The second time it hardly hurt at all. It depends on how badly infected/swollen it is at the time I think.

if its infected, go to the doctor right away. dont wait because if you wait too long expecting it to go away, it could progressively start a blood infection which can be fatal. its very rare that at this point its going to go away like this video.

No, they keep coming back unless you get your toenails Cauterized. Which I had done. Basically your foot doctor cuts the sides of your toenail to the main nerve, and then burns the nerve so the toenail never grows to the point of where it used to get Ingrown. The Surgery isn't the bad part.. The recovery is. The pain was the worst pain of my life, and the smell of dead/burned skin is the most horrific thing in the world. Not to mention you have to keep your feet elevated, or you bleed out.

I just got the surgery done. I've been hit in the face with a golf club, had my appendix burst, had me teeth knocked out...but NONE of those things even compared to the PAIN I experienced when My doctor cut my toenail at the sides. No "might be" about it. The redness and swelling means that it is infected.

If that happens again soak your foot in very warm water a couple times a day, and apply hydrogen peroxide occasionally.

u can not cut a round shape on the end of the nail because if it is round and the nails grows back the nail will always come back

.. Jam it in real deep @ the back of the nail & hook that Mofo out through the end of your toe following the line of where the side of your nail is supposed to be. (usually ingrowns start coz you pulled your nail off & it curved down on one side leaving a hidden spike) Then grab the loose piece of meat on the side & peel it back. Go right to the root of the nail & get a big wedge of flesh off so when the nail grows back you can see the side of it. Cured

Always cut your toenails STRAIGHT ACROSS. Then this fix will work. My doctor told me to do this. Get cotton wool & make a little ball a bit bigger than a match head. Push it under the nail on the ingrown side. this forces the nail to grow up & out & will drag the lil pointy ingrown bit out as it grows, hopefully. worked for me. Later if I got anything looking like ingrown I'd get a can opener, the old kind you had to work up & down, & jam the point of the blade down the side of my nail.........

go to a specialist. he will cut the infection/overgrown nail out and cauterize the root. this will prevent you from ever having this again. i used to have 3 ingrown toenails, they are painful as hell. now im cured.
